Playing & production on the drums of that tune are so refined, so smooth,so efficient, so subtle, so groovy, so clever and my love of music is clearly related to these drums.
I am so glad that I am not alone in adoring this beautiful soundscape. (When I was younger people thought I wsa a little odd liking this kind of stuff). The subtle keyboard and guitar effects are gorgeous, and of course the lilting drums and bass. Excellent work Dexbam. Simple Minds rule!
Simply remarkable job on this. I was @ The Ritz show in NYC for the N.G.D. tour. This was the opener with the band off the stage. Amid white and lavender lights and smoke machines. Like heaven on earth.
I'd say in a responsible way, this is my favorite song, not from SM but from them all. Its' in my Iphone and I play it almost everyday. I heard it first time 1987. 24 years love affair.
during their New Gold Dream tour of Australia in 1982 they would play this song LOUD over the PA.. before they came on stage..was the perfect mood setter before a gig..
Mike Ogletree, Its great to see you posting on here you are truly a wonderfull skins man What the hell was it like to play on such an iconic album like this?
Hey Dexbam, nice remastering! However, a correction to your notes. The line up for this track from New Gold Dream 81-82-83-84 is Charlie Burchill, Mick MacNeil, Derek Forbes and Mike Ogletree (yours truly). Neither Mel Gaynor or Kenny Hyslop, the other 2 drummers on the album, contributed to this track and Brian McGee was not on this album. An easy mistake to make considering the hard-to-read-small-print of the liner notes and the different drummers the band has had over the years. All the best.
@blaxcot good to know, thank you very much! I've changed the ''infowindow'' now.
Mike plays wonderfull in this track, a great drummer. And with this album (a milestone) forever a immortal legend, my deepest respect and thank you very much for your words.
@blaxcot That's interesting. I've listened to nothing but the drums on this so many times. What sort of snare is it being played in the main/verse part? It has such a cool sound. Love it.
straight from the scottish horses mouth! Thanks for putting things clear as, as you say, the sleeve notes were all too confusing! A great TRANCE tune... Metronomic but with swing... magical keyboards, tasteful guitar licks, trance bass... ALL a feast for the soul. From Argentina... GRACIAS!
@gwalj ===YOU GOT IT. Simple Mind's instrumentals are just erethreal.....just beautiful. SM will forever be my favorite band. I saw the Once Upon A Time Tour, long time ago! I was sweet sixteen.
Definitely visited by THEIR muse. ohmigod why didn't the buggers stick to this vibe. Absolutely gorgeous. What a waste. Another great band gone in three albums. Sad.
Incredible sound quality for youtube, most videos have a weak sound or are loud but with a distorted and saturated sound I have posted some Simple Minds audios and the sound quality was miles worse. All Simple Minds instrumentals are wonderful BTW.
One thing that everybody should do is listen to this song and just listen to Charlie Burchill's guitar. BRILLIANT!!! A great tune indeed. It couldn't have been done without the keyboards though.
Dex: - you make the best Simple Minds vids on you tube. I'll have to get my act together and put some out myself. The competition might raise your efforts to even greater heights lol.
Outstanding! Man, what a good way to start my day - just the beat I needed to get me going and feeling good about the days potential! Thanks "cjmcge" & "Dexbam" for the UP vibe, re-mix, and forward!!
it was great! The boys were absolutely on form ....Jim was at the happy smiley pills again : ) The crowd were great although I don't think it was a sell-out.....didn't matter they played a solid two hours the crowd lapped it up!
Only two tracks were weak for me Diff World+This Is It...all the other GS stuff worked a treat.....the rest really great....Children of the rev was actually ok although if it was me I would have done Jeepster or Get It On .....Best comic bit was when Jim's mic went flying out of his hand as he was gyrating....didn't bat an eye just stayed dancing like a spritely Pan's Person until the stage-hand had recovered the mic.....Class! lol !....now on to Edinburgh!!!!
brilliant track anyway
