I think of them as relics of an outmoded belief system, but not everyone does. Why?

Interesting to see that somebody built a working guillotine.
The French scientist, Antoine Lavoisier, showed that the human head may remain conscious for up to 13 seconds after decapitation. Prior to his own death by guillotine, Lavoisier told an assistant that after his decapitage he would blink his eyes as many times as he could before succumbing. When Lavoisier's head tumbled into the basket, he was able to blink at his assistant 13 times before passing into unconsciousness.
