should use a bolt and wing nut (or just a normal nut) on one of those cleats, even if you never have any earthquakes, as you said the tv is light, if it gets bounced around it could get knocked off.
the only thing I would have done differently is that I would have dyed all of it instead of painting it black. Especially the legs, the black makes to too hard to see the details in them while the dye and lacquer would have brought them out more. That and I think the black blends in too much with the electronics, but that's just me.
That's what I did with my projector it had 4 holes and just brought it over to them and they where able to find the right ones. Now I have a "proper" projector mount to just make a normal wood project for it.
Great video as always Steve! Too funny about the trips to the hardware store...Hey, will there be a part three? Thanks and please keep the videos coming...Joe
The owners manual that comes with the TV has a golden nugget of info inside: the size of those mounting bolts...If you've thrown that away already, there's that new-fangled contraption called the INTERNET where you could look: double u double u double u.vizio.com/support/
The cleat seems to me to be an elegant solution to your problem. If you change the TV you can redrill the same cleat or quickly make another one. Nice.
I recommend minwax wood conditioner. I have used it for years on plywood and edges and it is remarkable. Keep that soak in blotch away and edge darkness away as well.
steve thats coming along good what kind of safety do you do though? i mean do you wear goggles i actually wanna tell you i was in technology student association at my high school and my first competition for construction was to build a desk out of plywood trim board and 2x4s and they didnt have enough wood for me and my friend was on he team so 2 other teams of 2 didnt have wood either and we made a mighty fine desk but we ran out of time with are trim board and all we had was a skillsaw
Im not even that into woodworking... yet i find your videos fantastic. It's like watching This Old House. We may not be interested but damn is it interesting

I can never do a project without at least 3 trips to the hardware store!

Cool design. It's looking great.
I was wondering why you didn't use your Kreg jig to put those pieces together. Overkill?
I don't even fight it anymore, I just accept that I'll be going to the hardware store at least 3 times for any project.
You've got a great wife there. Smart, spunky, and willing to pitch in.

I know that whold be not totally a woodworking project, but have you thought of glass shelves? Weight shouldn't be an issue with tempered glass
