Miki's story on Unsung was just absolutely phenominal. Thank God i have all of her cd's. Miki's voice is so underrated and should have been through greater heights but (THE RECORD) label always like to pigeonhole certain artists in certain markets. Miki Howard could have been as big as Whitney Houston. I will always love Miki even when she sang with ''Side Effect'' and on ''Roy Ayers'' projects.
@1musicencyclopedia How is her voice so underrated? She had several number one hits. Most singers never even land record deals. The odds of achieving the heights that she reached are a million to one. Does she get bad reviews or something. Is that what you mean?
@TruthSerum101......I think you missunderstood me.When i commented about Miki's voice being ''underrated'' i meant that her talent was not pushed up to greater success. None of her albums went gold or platinum. She has had at least the first 5-6 years great radio airplay but the record label(s) did not push her talent to the next level. That's why she is ''Unsung''. Don't get me wrong (i love Miki's voice) as said on the above comment i have all her cd's. I love Miki.
@1musicencyclopedia Oh no, I knew what U meant My point is that the vast majority of albums do not go gold. Percentage wise, it is a rarity. Comparatively speaking MIki Howard did extremely well. There were many amazing singers N the 80s & 90s (Desiree Coleman, D'atra Hicks, Lisa Fischer, Wendy Moten, Cindy Mizell, Sharon Bryant, Vaneese Thomas) who only got 1 major label CD. There R hundreds of others who never got signed in the 1st place. "There is room for everyone at the top" is a myth.
@1musicencyclopedia I think the title "Unsung" is rather misleading. Those people have sung and sung which is why we remember them in the first place and care to listen to their stories. A more appropriate title might be "Whatever Happened To".
@TruthSerum101 I agree debarge isn't unsung nor was roger trotman. I agree there were lots of artist you think where are they now or what happen to. You have a great Idea with that.
@1musicencyclopedia I totally agree with you...it is so sad that the industry has relegated so many phenomenal voices to singing on circuits. Being from the Miki era, I absolutely love every murmur of her vocal abilities. Oh, and I will pass this on to "TruthS..."...come on, he's listening to Miki...he has to know what "underated" means, especially in the content in which you expressed it. LOL

@ChakaFanTV I cosign... But I've never been a fan of a "Classic Remakes" albums like she did here.. Miki is always gonna be legendary, she's always been an incredible vocalist.. But a lot of artists need to know their limits.. I've always considered Miki an R&B singer anyway... And RARELY can R&B singers remake an outright soulful hit like this, because Main Ingredient is just that.. pure soul.... or unless like you say, it's Luther (r.i.p.)
@525crazz They just simply can't write rnb music Like this Main INgrediant classic these days .I guess that's why artists are relying on remakes so much and sampling the classics.BUt in my opinion I still think this a pretty good remake She interprets it in her own way and style
@ChakaFanTV She could've kept this.. This was truly WEAK.... The instrumentation was digital garbage.. The saying goes that there are just some songs you just don't touch, AND THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THEM.. This was an intoxicated Karaoke moment.... There was no feeling to it.
Thank you so much for posting this!!! I listened to the Ronnie Dyson version as a child, growing up in the Philippines... great memories!!! thanks again!!!
