  • FUCK THE ROYALS..MOST USELESS PPL.. ON THE FACE.. OF THE EARTH..REPUBLIC..JUST LIKE THE IRISH..REPUBLIC OF CANADA..NICE RING 2 IT..

  • Our connection to the marchy is the only thing that gives Canada an absolute culture... think of all the Canadian symbols.. the RCMP, our ceremonial guard... victoria day, non would exist without us being a monarchy. We're too established the way we are to change. Secondly, so what if the queen doesn't serve a large political purpose.. being a monarchy adds a little magic and history into our lives that couldn't exist without it.. royal weddings, jubilees, royal visits.. etc..

  • Booting out a foreign influence is in the exact same spirit as the English Reformation. Phasing out the monarchy could very well indeed be interpreted as a characteriistic we have inhereted from our British past.

  • That pro monarchy in Canada man is...seriously disillusioned and confused, "sharing a monarch" is aka called a colonial system and nowhere near a "Republic or a democracy."

  • I pity the Canadians, it would be like all the Asian countries that were conquered by Japan during World War II keeping the Japanese emperor as their head of state. Could you see any logic if China, Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia etc all had the emperor of japan as their head of state? If anything pride and a distinct national identity of each of these countries would not allow that, but as for the Canadians...well whatever floats Canada's boat.

  • @geardtwo

that's actually nothing like what it is, and you just made yourself sound really stupid.

Canada's Head of State is the same culture as the House of Windsor.

  • If the royal family isn't a burden on the country's well being then why is this an issue?? His only argument through this entire debate is that she's not Canadian-well, so what? If the Monarchy was doing a horrible job, then that will justify his position. So far he has said nothing about their performance of duty.

This topic isn't a matter of life or death. There are more serious issues in this world to bitch about. Why doesn't he shift some of that passion to something else, like cancer?

  • REPUBLICANS RULE OK!

  • wow a globalization of monarchy hahaha

  • I'm not pro American nor am I a supporter of the "Canadian Royal Family." I do think that we need to part ways with the Monarchy. She's not a Canadian.

  • This should have been called "Queens on the Queen". Do you have to be a young gay man to give a flying fuck about the Queen in Canada? Every Canadian I've ever talked to doesn't seem to care one way or the other.

  • @nauort23 Umm moron........you are speaking for yourself, right ?

  • @jsinc909 Fuck off and go kiss your Queen's ass, subject! You want your independence? Fight for it. Everyone else has had to.

  • @nauort23 On your first point......I cannot kiss "my" Queens ass because she only comes to Canada every 5 to 7 years. 2nd point......South Africa and India became republics without a "fight" so get your facts straight.

  • @nauort23

you obviously know nothing of history.

    American?

  • The National Post printed a letter a few weeks ago that said Canada's refusal to become a republic is akin to a 20 year old who still needs his parents help getting dressed. Talk about hitting the hammer on the nail !

  • Theres only 190 something recognised countries in the world, this kid cannot argue the point of republic and did a piss poor job at defending that viewpoint.

  • It costs England, £55 Million, per anum, to keep the Monachy on the bloody throne. ( and Bloody it is ! )

How much does Canada contribute ?

    Just asking !

  • Ironic that Rafal-Heydel-Mankoo is pro monarchy, yet would never be permitted to marry into the monarchy ....for, well, racial reasons.

oh and unless You're an anglican christian Youre out of that club too.

But feel free to pledge loyalty to them anyway.

  • The guy in London sounds most snooty...

  • I enjoy how the monarchist has a very British accent. It is very obvious that he is not a born Canadian, thus his opinion on Canada is invalid.

  • @ThisMoniker What is really amazing is that there is more of a republic movement in England than there is in Canada ? The ultimate WTF !

  • Go to a republic, you become "just another country" a monarchy stands as a sign of individuality and maturity.

  • @BritishTrekkie952 Maturity? That stereotyped image is as obsolete as the values you claim to defend. No wonder why monarchies are dying at a fast rate. Jezz, you worship a sack of potatoes who wears flowerpots! What a dumbass! XD

  • @BritishTrekkie952 Is the Queen Canadian, Australian, New Zealandish or Jamaican? No, she is British, Then she should be Queen of the UK and nothing else -.-

  • @donmont10 I see your point, but when has the Queen ever said that she was solely British?

  • @BritishTrekkie952 she doesnt have to, she is British... I mean she does have the title 'Queen of Canada' But she is NOT Canadian... She was born in a castle in England, not in Canada. She doesnt have Canadian Citizenship, soo therefore nto Canadian... and who's to argue the queen isnt British, which she obviously is

  • @donmont10 I'm not saying she's not British, but she's also Canadian. Yes, she was born in Britain, but she doesn't have British citizenship either. From when she ascended to the throne, she has not had any citiizenship. In Commonwealth realms, citizenship means to be a subject of the Queen.

  • @BritishTrekkie952 Good Point, but why have a monarch in a country, where said monarch has very little political power, it's like the queen doesnt even do her job as 'Queen of Canada' she's never around...

  • @donmont10 That's a good point, she is rarely in Canada, but she does have 16 countries to get around so she appoints the Governor-General to act as her representative, but she does keep close tabs on what they do (not close enough in the case of HE Governor-Geeral John Kerr of Australia in the 1970s when he dismissed her prime minister without consulting her.)

  • @donmont10 lol ur arguing about a shithead who the british people are meant to look up to one day there will be a fucking revolution one day

  • Canada is better off than it would of been if it followed the united states with being democratic

Look how fucked up there government is and how shit there health and legal system is compared to the other countries who where part of the British Empire!

(Can't believe he mentioned Israel look how fucked up that country is LOL)

  • from my understanding canada has a heavy french influence..i'm surprised they are not a republic considering how the french like the idea of a monarchy..haha

  • He's a very bright 18 YO ... decent debate

  • i don't really care about the tax cost of having a queen or that she lives in another country. if all those things were not a problem i'd still hate having a queen.

  • ... Class to a country, a sparkle of tradition and heritage that you just don't get with the grey suits of a republic. But if Canada did decide to elect it's first president then I would wish them well... Even if the next day I struggled to remember his or her name. Just another faceless politician in grey calling for photo calls with president Obama to legitimise their administration... Something the queen at least doesn't need to do...

  • Sensible debate, up until the republican announces the thousands of countries around the world... Er, hate to stop ya there little fella but you might have double counted a couple of times... The question for canada (I'm a Brit so i support Canada either way) is what does a president bring, well the answer normally is more politics... More lies to win your vote, more promises to break after election day, more do as I say and not what I do. The queen, and wider the monarchy, brings a touch of cl

  • I'm sick of the Queen and all that. Stop wasting our money and stay in England. We are NOT part of England anymore. To the Queen if you want to come here, then pay for it yourself. Don't wast my tax money.

  • Is the King of Spain the head of state of Mexico, Argentina or Venezuela ? NO Having a head of state who does not live in your country is the absolute height of stupidity.

  • @jsinc909 Not a very good example, those countries fought wars for their independence.

  • @jsinc909

He is president of the association of Hispanic countries, he is the most popular not only monarch, but a favourite of all Hispanic nations. Look him up sometime and how popular the Spanish monarchy is in its old colonies and how much they do for one another.

  • @jsinc909 No it isn't. You pro-American traitor.

  • @TheLiberalKnight Ahh, yes.....the joy of being a monarchist zombie.

  • @jsinc909 I was born in a republican household. My family all support the abolition of the monarchy. So now, I'm not a 'monarchist zombie', you presumption twat.

  • @jsinc909 You are so ignorant of history. Canada was created by the British to be a homeland for United Empire Loyalists (British Americans who fought against the British American "Patriots") and their descendents. The founding fathers of Canada like John MacDonald (Canada's 1st prime minister) were ardent monarchists who believed in the connection to the motherland (Great Britain) and loyalty to the crown. Canadian republicans have no place and they should be forced to move south of the border.

  • @RoyalistCavalier " connection to the motherland" ? ? ? Are you for real ? Do you still drink your mothers breast milk ? Do you think it is OK for a country to have a head of state that does live in same country ?

  • @jsinc909 If you want a republic, go south of the border to the United States. The Dominion of Canada was created for the United Empire Loyalists and their descendents. The founding fathers of Canada were ardent monarchists who believed that Canada was a part of the British Empire and that it should REMAIN a part of the British Empire. Canada was not created to be a republic but a monarchy. You Canadian republicans are welcome to move to the United States where you belong.

    Canada=Monarchy.

  • @RoyalistCavalier Ever consider writing a book on the subject and calling it " The Joy of Having an Absentee Head of State " ?

  • @RoyalistCavalier p.s. And you would pay for the Green Card processing fees for me ?

  • Comment removed

  • @RoyalistCavalier @RoyalistCavalier And now when the"British Empire" is no more what's the big deal for Canada to become republic? Is Canada independent sovereign nation or not? How can democracy tolerate an unelected head of state that doesn't even live in your country? That's completely beyond me to understand or to accept! How is possible for you to have an unelected head of state and to call yourself "one of the oldest democracies in the world"?

  • @mtlilr We are a westminster style federal DEMOCRACY with constitutional monarchy. The monarch has absolutely no political voice unless in a time of constitutional crisis (such as in 2008 when the gg prorogued parliament). Regularly however, is is the pm (who is elected) who has all the power. In fact, it is constitutionally prohibited for the monarch or gg to even express an opinion.

  • @RoyalistCavalier REPUBLIC...MOVE 2 ENGLAND..ASSHOLE

  • @RoyalistCavalier FUCK U..ENGLAND THAT AWAY..

  • @jsinc909

you're a sad collection of historically ignorant idiots, aren't you...

  • Such a perfect snap-shot of this debate. The ignorant, angry kid is a perfect caricature of the rabidly regiphobes. His whole argument is "its uncanadian". There are also groups in Canada who want British chapters of our history forgotten.

The Monarchists arguments made sense to me. The guy was also an example of why we want to be associated with Britain. Plus, Churchill, The Beatles, James Bond, lots of things.

  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambrige is coming to Canada soon - I wonder if it would help boost the monarchy in Canada after their marriage some weeks ago.

  • Look how well your Southern neighbours have done...

  • It's not the British Crown, it's the Canadian Crown. Ape!

  • @maureenOWW Well. both British and Canadian crown are the same - there are no crown jewel in Canada itself - the crown itself is the same British St Edwards crown. All commonwealth realms linked to British crown though different means of crown.

Australia likely to sever ties with British crown and became a republic though not so soon - maybe around 2020 to 2025.

  • The people throwing eggs at the crown do so because they are filled with jealousy and a huge inferiority complex. Perhaps if we signed a law entitling every republican to be called "Your Infernal Highness" they would be satisfied and then stop wasting everyone's time talking about tearing up the constitution.

  • Who is this kid, J.J.? He has no basis for what he is saying. He is not articulate at all and is only spouting his immature opinion.

  • @SamsSpaghetti I don't want be taxes going to the lavish rulers some way some how.

  • @unknownunknowns actually the Crown dosnt take taxes per se. yes they get the civil list which is valued at

around £38 million (that's including everything) paid to the crown by the treasury. however, the Crown possesses huge tracks of property the generate around £200 million+ in profit that the crown pays straight to the treasury so if anything the Crown generates a surplus for the the state.

  • @tisFrancesfault Again how does it earn its money when it has these 'huge tracks'?

And here's the thing don't you envy their lifestyle that was NEVER attained through hard work? I just find it very weird that the British don't. Also, maybe the Queen should do more since you invest your time and money into her. Oh wait, then you'll just call her tyrant. going back to the question, what's the POINT in having her if she does for YOU AT ALL?

  • @SamsSpaghetti Look, I guess don't have anything 'better to do' but what YouTube has given is the freedom of speech to say whatever I want. And speaking of that, this is something your queen doesn't have so what is the POINT of having her and what is she supposed to do despite your INSANITY of letting her live a lavish lifestyle? Also, perhaps decades later, there is going to be a North American Union involving Canada, the US, and Mexico and so hopefully the monarch will be abolished.

  • @SamsSpaghetti Sorry, but this is just RETARDED!!! So what if Charles or whomever does charity, or if there's a 'balance'? The point is when you pay your taxes that goes to their lavish lifestyles. Also, I like to have a choice of who should run my country just in case he or she does something wrong. I just don't get this insanity.

  • if Canada removes the monarchy, your basically picking up your history, tradition and one of your best friends, and ripping it into shred's. Thats why Britain itself hasnt thrown the monarchy.

  • @MikeySpicy1212 Tradition? Right, tradition of theft, exploitation, and slavery (you the taxpayer). Don't you want to CHOOSE who rules over in case he or she does a horrible job?

  • @SamsSpaghetti

With the Public Opinion polls taken and the responses given by Canadians, I am looking forward to find out.

  • @SamsSpaghetti Not under this institution. You personally may like him but it seems he doesn't have that mass appeal as his wedding to his second wife was not as widely viewed as some football during that same day. I heard that the approval rating did sink to a low during the royal family's slow reaction to the death of Diana. Surely, some people wish it wasn't Charles as the ruler but are just STUCK with him. At least for me since I don't like President Obama so I can directly CHOOSE.

  • Another shocking GRIPE I have with the monarch is they get to SET WHEN the parliamental election occurs. WHY!?!?!?!?!?!? should the prime minister decide through the queen when the election during the 'good times', not so in the bad times? That's a conflict of interest and there's less accountabiliy. In the US the presidential election occurs every 1st Tues of November every 4 years. So, Obama has until 6/11/12 to improve the economy or else Donald Trump says, "You're fired!!!" in his face.

  • @SamsSpaghetti Yes, but don't you want to CHOOSE who runs this country? When Elizabeth passes away, you'll be STUCK with that adulturer Charles and you know he's HATED by the British commoners.

  • @SamsSpaghetti Then HOW MUCH for security and WHY couldn't they just pay that themselves? Don't you know the queen is RICH!!! You also said they did 'something' to get where they are. What is THAT?!? Right being born. Prince William wouldn't have taken that title had Charles married Camilla, who probably was less likey to produce an heir, so Charles married Diana and then DITCHED her.

  • @SamsSpaghetti

When this Monarch (Lizzie) dies, people in Canada really dont want another one.

  • @SamsSpaghetti Let's not get irrelevant with my president, though at least his predecessor cousulted with congress to go into Iraq. Also, he can get impeached (which he won't) or elected to be ousted.

Back to the topic. Yes you are a SLAVE, especially since you're from the UK. You paid all of those lavish lifestyles of all those weddings and those 'wonderful' palaces since they were spoiled from birth and the never ever lifted a finger to attain those. This is just INSANE.

  • Canadians need a Canadian head of state.

Someone who pledges alliengence to our country.

You can't share a head of state, and you cant be born into power.

If the British want to have their Queen, they can have her.

And why is the British guy tell Canadians what to do?

I love the Canadian flag, not the British one.

  • Doesn't Canada deserve a leader who belongs to Canada alone ?

  • @logprome YES

  • @logprome the creation of the Canada we know today was made possible by the monarchs. They invested greatly in the land that previously didnt even have any legitimate structures built. They payed for the workers and settlers as well as the resources needed to keep them alive. Technically their the rightful owners of the country.

  • @BatDude27 The creation of Canada was made possible by workers from all over the world who came to the country to establish a new life for themselves. Paying for wages hardly makes them the true owners of the country. It's not a company.

  • @KeepEuropeWhite erm no it doesn't, the Crown estate belongs to the Crown hence 'Crown estate'... Not the tax payer (by the by the monarchy is a tax payer)

  • @KeepEuropeWhite what difference would that make

  • @KeepEuropeWhite Just because he is not white does'nt mean he did not grow up or was born in England, which would make him British

  • @KeepEuropeWhite are you even aware of what makes up the crown estate?

  • I like having the monarchy because it means that the Prime Minister is just a regular politician and not a head of state. I don't want that creep Harper to be elevated to the status of a head of state. This nice old lady with no real power is fine with me. The very limited function the monarchy serves is a useful one and there is no need to fix something that isn't broken. The discussion isn't about what you think of monarchies in general but rather how it functions for our system.

  • @AndrewFranzke7 everything in our legislative system is broken do not kid yourself...look at how many elections we have had in the last 6 years

  • @KeepEuropeWhite the civil list draws out £7.9m from the treasury, yes? the Crown estates as of 2010 generated in excess of £210m... maybe we should stop the civil list but lets be fair and give them back the Crown estates profits too, a smashing idea! :D

  • @KeepEuropeWhite Canada pays nothing to the crown. all money she receives is from the civil list which is financed by by the British government. the civil list allows parliament(s) to keep they money generated from crown estate in exchange for the list. the list being under half the amount of crown estate income. (don't forget MOST of the money is used for maintenance and employment too.) oh and we all seem to have sad obsessions like saaay keeping white! XD

  • An Arab Canadian with a British accent xD

  • The monarchy is a waste of money. How much do you think it costs to maintain the governor general and the Lieutenant governors

  • @arnoldo112 how much would it cost for a president etc? answer... about the same if not more as a president would need more protetion and wold need to traval faaaar more that the Gov gen.

  • @tisFrancesfault We wouldnt need a prime minister any more = less costs i don't see why a president alone would need more protection than the protection currently provided to the prime minister + governor general + lieutenant governors combined...let alone their salaries...

  • @arnoldo112 ah but likely Canada would. as canada would more than likely become a parliamentary republic like France, Russia, Ireland and so on and so forth. all these state have both prime ministers AND Presidents. (oh and lieutenant governors exist due to Canada being a federation of provinces the act like the head of state for that Provence and not due to the monarchy ( there like the USA's governors) ). :)

  • @tisFrancesfault I dont see why a relatively small country like Canada would need both; additionally Lieutenant governors' are kind of of useless considering we have premiers

  • @arnoldo112 well many people see a person who is both head of state and government as having for to much vested power.i mean theoretically speaking, the form of government you suggests disallows the removal of the the head unles their own government removes them. this form of republic is FAR less accountable and dangerous than a monarchy and a repub with septate heads(gov/state).though i really dont see Canada doing anything like that but still..checks and balances you know? see what im saying?

  • @tisFrancesfault I get what you are saying but I disagree. It seems like our head of state doe not really have an active tole in the politics of this country; therefore, I do not think the new president would have any more power than the prime minister. Also modifying the constitution to prevent re-election of the president and ensuring that elections take place after a certain cycle would prevent the government form having total power.

  • @arnoldo112 That would obviously have to be in addition to a senate reform as right now its appointed by the PM; it would have to become an elected body and truly representative of the distribution of the population...the west is way underepresented

  • @gbambino And like waving a magic wand when she becomes "Queen of Canada" she is instantly a Canadian. Wears a lumber jacket and plays hockey while drinking beer and eating back bacon. How fucking stupid do you think we are? You monarchists take the cake. (as well as say let them eat cake)

  • @gbambino Ok she's not completely British. She's also German..

  • Countries around the world , when they discover we still have Dizzy Lizzy as our head of state laugh their asses off. We're the laughing stock by playing baby to Mother England and her Queen. Let's grow up and tar and feather these monarchists and send them to Disney Land's Magic kingdom or some fairy land where they'll be happy.

  • @bob4istheman So what's the point of having power that you can't use? I say we elect a head of state who can't reign for eternity (with their descendents) who actually has power, mandated by the PEOPLE!!!

  • @gundamWWW Exactly! Anyone who wants a foreigner and all her descendents to be Canada's head of state is a slave and wants every Canadian to be a slave as well.

  • @blacbraun so what about our last Governor General who was born in Haiti, same thing apply there?

  • Can someone tell me why they don't want Canada to be under the Queen? I thought she was just symbolic.

  • @bugabuse it is symbolic, officially she could demand control but if she ever did will just tell her off. As for these people their just crying trying to deny and separate from our past, that's why the flag was changed. This idiot 18 year old does not know anything about politics. one thing you cant argue is that Quebec will be happier.

  • @Baseshocks One of the richest persons in the world, if you think her power is symbolic, you're a moron.

  • @madchronz77 her political power being Canada's queen is symbolic, you are a moron if you did not understand my comment after watching the video, they are not talking about her riches or what she owns their talking about Canada recognizing her as a Queen.

  • @madchronz77 the Queen is unique... she in theory is VERY powerful and has much control. however, its hard to translate this into practice. oh and she not particularly rich finance wise. :/

  • @tisFrancesfault Yes we'd lose our grovelling stature as a colony of jolly old England and Lizzy

  • @KathrynBoussemart Kingdom of Canada???? Who you kidding? People like you just want to play slave and colony of Big Brother Britain and it's outdated monarch. How can you say we are independent from Britain while sharing her head of state, but if we want to be a truly independent republic we would become part of the US just because they happen to be a republic too? That's convoluted logic.

  • @Dublian Well my Kraut-Mick friend (sorry but I had to use that quote from The Godfather..) The Queen is of the house of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (or Windsor as it's known know) You can't get much more German than that..

  • @Anairofdeath By the way, at least she lives in your country. If she lived in my country (Canada) I might possibly have a different view but I would make a better King than any from Britain. I'm Canadian after all and I live here.

  • @Anairofdeath Of course you are British, you used the word "cheeky"

  • @yeahbuddy2 And yet they forged the greatest country on earth..all without your divine dictator (king/queen) at the helm

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG there are "thousands of countries all over the world" LMAO 4:13

  • Now this is real imperialism here. None of that watered down wars in the middle east stuff the US does. One nation (Britain) dominates another nations (Canada) politically, economically, military and culturally...

  • Really? Last time I checked Canadians are British. Canadians dont see the U.K as a distant land or country; this is where home is and where most of our extended family is. Dont think of Canada as a distinctly separate nation from the U.K we are ethnically, politcally, economically, religiously and institutionally identical to the U.K. The U.K "dominating" Canada would be like you dominating your own brother, its redundant and not necessary because we act the same because we are the same.

  • Becoming a Republic wouldn't make Canada any more American

  • god save the queen!!!!

  • @ILOVEPARIS1288

    What does that mean?

aside from the word "the".., those are the 3 most backwards, confusing, caustic and divisive words that a modern canadian can scream. no rational political foundation, just delinquent and emotional buffoonery. think about the context and the relevance in blurting out borowed royal slogans...just immature and irrelevant.

  • "open up the doors for debate" twin research, americans and canadians are genetically, linguistically, religiously, ethically, politically and economically identical. However, in one system the poor are doubled, there isnt free healtcare, they are prone to widespread and institutionalized corruption, and disregrad for domestic law. Do I need to say which side of the border this is? France also has similar problems, considering its on its 25th attempt as a republic.

  • @limoboy3 Yes, I agree the US health care system is alot better than Canada's which is why the liteunant governor recently went to the US for a heart transplant...

I work in the medical field everyone lols at Canada's health care system... You have less than 100 MRI machines... Have to wait long time, doctors and supplies are CRAP! Oh but you have 100% covered as oppose to the US 90% *roll eyes*. Plus you pay more Either way I dont know why you guys act like your is better when its clearly not.

  • The U.S has the lowest life expectancy, highest infant mortality rate, spends 10% more of GDP on healthcare then any other country in the western world. Therefore, The U.S system is more expensive, it has differing levels of quality depending on treatments because of privatization; this is why healthcare in U.S sucks; if your poor you die. Healthcare isnt a commercial product, I'd know I have a family business that manages 500+ doctors in over 250 facilities, so please shut the fuck up.

  • @limoboy3 lol your only argument you have is America is only 90% covered opposed to you 100%. More people covered under health care does not equal to being better. Having better doctors and better equipment means better = USA

If you were right. Than why do all of your queens and kings, and litunant governors come to the US for heart/brain surgery? Oh wait I know why, because ours is better :) So stop with the false pride

  • I would advise Rafal never to visit Ireland. That accent alone, combined with the views he espouses, explains so much of what the Irish historically hated the British for. What a prim and proper silver-spooned little cocksucker he is.

  • In practice, however, no one sees Elizabeth II as Canadian head of state. We see your prime minister as filling that role. I think it's a solid tradition that has provided the basis for Canada's successful democracy. Keep it.

  • the whole concept of being born into royalty and hence branded as an elite individual is retarded

  • The crown serves Canada well? What do they do? None of them have ever gone to war for us. Kick these royal leeches out and off our dole. Now Princely Prince William and his wifey will be going to Canada. How many fucking millions of dollars is THAT going to burden the tax payers with. Every time these royal cunts visit a country, they don't pay a fucking dime. It's always the poor taxpayers that foot the bill.

  • @phuckizlam Well I like the old Enlightenment ideal "We won't rest till the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest" Now that's a motto!!

  • OMG, did he really just say "thousands of countries"??????!??!

Sir, there are only 195 countries. Sounds like someone needs to find a university that doesn't just preach politician-worship and actually TEACHES YOU GEOGRAPHY (you want to give politicians MORE power so bozos like this can vote them in??).

Thousands, my goodness. I pray it was just careless exaggeration and not his real idea of how many countries there are.

  • Monarchs are born into power, Politicians *seek* power. The latter is infinitely worse for reasons that should be obvious to all.

  • @Cyrus255 Politicians, who were elected, seeking power is WORSE that monarchs being born into power? At least you can ELECT another one in his/her position.

  • Oh, and JJ.. I'm surprised you neglected to mention that you support the US annexing Canada on TV. You know, just to drive home that you're not part of a fringe political movement.

  • It really says a lot about an organization when it has an 18 year old representing them on TV. There is no interest in Canada for any change to the status quo... if there was any interest in republicanism or monarchism outside of a few people with nothing better to do with themselves their organizations wouldn't be relying on a British immigrant and a high school student to represent their causes on national television.

  • sadly the republicans don't understand that the Queen, is Queen of Canada when she is in Canada, she is Queen of New Zealand when she is in New Zealand, she is Queen of Australia when in Australia.

By pure definition, the Queen is a Canadian citizen and a Canadian in every right. She is not a foreigner.

  • @ccheng21 That's babyish thinking. It's like a child saying my mommy is the prettiest lady in the world. Ask any one on earth who Queen Elizabeth II is queen of and they will say England/Britain. Nobody would every say she is queen of New Zealand or Queen of Canada...makes me laugh to imagine it LOL

  • @blacbraun no, thats constitutional law. The fact that you are too stupid to understand that doesn't mean that constitutional law, and tradition is automatically invalid. The Canadian Monarchy doesn't have to justify itself to the ignorant.

  • I'm a proud Canadian born and raised and I think we should abolish the Monarchy and elect a fellow Canadian citizen as our Head of State. I recommend a Parliamentary Republic form of government with a elected Prime Minister as head of government and a elected president as head of state, similar to the type of government that India has.

  • @TheFlameoftheWest And how well has that worked out for India? right, it's impoverished.

Our system has worked out pretty well, seeing as we're one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

Our government is fine, and our monarchy is part of our history.

  • @3x0rcyst3m I don't think India has massive poverty becouse they don't have Queen Elizabeth as there Head of State.

And yes I know its apart of our history but were no longer a british colony. Were a free and independent country, thats why we changed are flag by taking the Union Jack off of it.

  • @TheFlameoftheWest I Agree I am not a proud canadian, and would like to see reform happen in this country. the justice system I beleive needs to be more similar to the american justice system. the health care system needs to be reformed. I would rather have canad a be peacefully annexed by the United States but with a few conditions such as the United States has much more stricter gun control laws, and that the united states adopts a public, universal tax supported health care system.

  • @imperatorcaesar100 If we are "peacefully annexed" by the United States and Sara Palin becomes President, it's armed insurrection for me.

  • @TheFlameoftheWest If Sarah Palin SOMEHOW becomes president, then I'm sure most of America would join you. I would, at least.

  • @TheFlameoftheWest Sounds good to me. It's the 21st C after all. Let's try it and if the people can't stand being free and choosing the head of state we can always grovel to Lizzy or Chucky if she kicks the bucket to Pleeeese be our head of state again.....

  • Ungreatful canadian bastards

  • How many republics have suffered economic and/or political turbulence in the last 10 years? Over a dozen: Armenia, Azerbaijan (both partly due to the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region), Ireland, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, China (People's Republic of), North Korea, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Mexico, Ivory Coast and the US. I'm not for or against the monarchy in Canada, but the governments of most of these republics have had their problems with transparency.

  • @wainber1 A) Republics vastly outnumber monarchies in the world today. It's hardly surprising they would also outnumber them as troubled places. B) Consider Nepal, Saudi Arabia.

  • @PatchesRips: Republics and monarchies can function well, as long as they have democratically-elected governments that are progressive and take genuine steps to welcome all people regardless of ethnic background, race, nationality, creed or sexual orientation. Russia, a former Soviet republic (and now a federation that runs like a republic) has an autocratic government that does an appalling job of breaking down barriers to intolerance, with more neo-Nazis there than almost anywhere else.

  • Canadians are so desperate to hang onto the UKs cloaktails. They are like little servants

  • @kingdomofdalriada: I understand the feeling you may have for Canada to break its relationship with the monarch. There are monarchies, particularly in the Arab world, that are badly run. Many, if not all, of those countries are dictatorships. I don't like their being monarchies not because they are monarchies but because their monarchs exercise nearly absolute power over their countries' residents. Among monarchies, Qatar, Swaziland, and Saudi Arabia, unlike Canada or Japan, are autocratic.
