  • My Chess Hero...

  • He probably experianced the best time of his life that year in the Philippines. That is the country of first choice when he had to exit the USA.

  • @Simangel1307 I never follow any chess players for their chess, only for their outside of chess statements, more interesting to me, but I was just curious if anyone there beat him, thanks.

  • @gr8vibes2 there was one guy that gave bobby a good fight i cant think of him off the top of my head but he eas a philippine champion , he to ended up having a hard time because of fide and i thinl members of the philippine chess establishment

  • did anyone even beat bobby there one game? surely he didn't win every single game! thanks if you know the answer

  • @gr8vibes2 there is one guy beat him 4 to 2 i think, his name is tal

  • @gr8vibes2 here is the name of the guy , and , a real gentleman sadly he to is no longer with us GM Rosendo Balinas he was a awesome player and pushed Bobby hard, enjoy your research.

  • what is the title of the song and who sang it??somebody pls answer me thantks ^^

  • @ndragoneel Viva La Vida by Coldplay

  • lucky are the guys who had a chance to have played with his genius

  • @brood1986 you are so right , well said :) and thankyou

  • This Gift from the Philippines to Robert James Fischer - known as Bobby Fischer, makes me prouder as a Filipino because the gift comes from True Love ...not only from Filipino chessplayers but from the Filipino people w/ Hearts & Spirits to understand Bobby in soul, mind, & most importantly in Bobby's humanity, whose gift of being the greatest chess genius who ever lived on Earth, alone wants nothing but to show how chess game is played in science, art & eng'g.Peace, Bobby - Bernard Rementilla

    How I wish

  • "Beat Bobby Fischer"?!

Quite strange title for the event, eh?

  • 2 people: like me: chess sucker .. but I still playing this immortal game!

  • Great photo collection. Congrats Nicoral! So good to remember the last true King of Chess. RIP Bobby...you were the best.

  • R.I.P Bobby. Forever missed.

  • @TheTimemerchant He was great.. Sad he died in a remote area in Iceland..; only seven people attended his funeral!!

  • I wish you were here... =(

  • A man with a 180 I.Q. who lived only for chess, and finally succumbed to mental psychosis. A genius in his field. THE GREATEST EVER

  • song fits

  • I'll always consider Bobby like Achilles, blessed by the gods.

  • I never saw him smile. It gave me goose bumps. A brief glimpse of what could have been, had schizophrenia not taken hold of his beautiful mind. Rest in peace, o captain, my captain.

  • Nice to see Bobby looking so happy.

  • everyone became chess players during bobby's time

  • Yes, well put together. It is sad. But at the time of this competition he was peerless.

  • really nice

  • very beautiful video

  • chess, coldplay, awesome memories from bobby- does it get any better? :D

  • nice vid, good song choice , it gone in my favourites

  • Great collection of snaps. Philippinoes really gave Bobby lots of lovely moments which he would cherish. Wonder what Bobby's thinking from up in heaven about these nuclear radiation disasters in Japan? Bush and the Jap Government kidnapped him and poisoned him after all...

  • I wish Bobby was still alive, I would tell him that I love him and I understand what he went through R.I.P. Bobby, we all love you and wish you were here!

  • I wish Bobby was still alive, I would tell him that I love him and I understand what he went through R.I.P. Bobby, we all love you and wish you were here!

  • The song could not be more appropriate.

  • omg, he's wearing a barong!

  • The Filipinos love Bobby Fischer. My uncle taught me chess when I was a small boy, and I can still remember how he talked fondly of Fischer. That was in the 80's.

  • perfect song for Bobby Fischer

  • how much did he win??

  • I don't know that he would have crushed Kasparov if such a match had been possible. Both were geniuses - both in a class of their own.

Both were extremely agrressive innovators, and both amazing talents.

I do think he was the best speed (blitz) player in history with no equal.

For their time Capablanca etc, were pretty damned good too.

The USA's treatment of Fischer was disgusting.

  • Nice set of photographs. Fischer appears to be pretty happy in the shots. 1967 was around the time he took the decision to walk away from the game following a pretty rough Interzonal in Tunisia.

  • did anybody in PI ever beat fischer?

  • @MrGentlehand No Fischer did not lose a single game despite playing 9 masters. He won eight games and drew one, a phenomenal accomplishment by any standards. The result is testament to the chess genius that he was.

  • I saw the same Philippines video a couple of yrs ago but the soundtrack was another one of Coldplay's songs. This is a great vid but it pales by comparison to when it was put to Coldplay's "Clocks". It takes on a much different aura. The "Clocks" version provokes great sadness & sympathy for this tormented genius who could have been saved had those around him cared enough to force him into proper medical care. Who knows what heights he could have achieved- perhaps that's why they didn't

  • Bobby in his prime would crush kasporov in looks and over the board HANDS DOWN!!!!

  • @zugzwang33060 NO DOUBT ABOUT IT ! Bobby Fischer was good as he had to be in order to be the best. No one before, or since, has taken such command of the Royal Game - Chess is the game of games, and Bobby Fischer was the champion of champions.

The world will never see another "Chessman" like him. RIP Bobby - No one can hurt you anymore.

  • Fischer was a handsome young man, he shouldve done more with his life. Got married & get some children etc. Then we would've had more Fischers now xD

  • You did a great job with this video. I really enjoyed it. Fischer had so much potential, and while he succeeded in becoming World Chess Champion, I still think he fell short. He did more for chess than anyone before or since. It is a shame that his life ended on so sour a note.

  • this idiot fischer lost a lot of matches in this contest

but hey he was the greatist chess player but never was the best sorry

    Kasparov HANDS DOWN

  • @blackoil911 you have no idea who you like ,your gutter mouth hopefully wil shut you down in due course and ya never know , you really are a fool

  • @blackoil911 thankyou for returning to one of the best photo displays of clearly the best chess player in the world , im pleased you are researching Bobby , you will be pleasantly surprised what you find :))) take care blacky

  • It's really unique. I love the video. I just wish Bobby kept that spirit and (apparent) goodness all through his life.

    Thank you for sharing!

?? so what if he was tall , your mothers chit smells the same of those fillipinos dont forget u fucking ignorent bitch

  • @blackoil911

    sweet emotion

  • @sledhill

    of your mom s azz

  • @blackoil911

    touch my fatstick pls

  • @blackoil911 eat my shit pls

  • @sledhill

thats becuz the britishers came and stole everything for themselfs'' but look at him now in the grave with your mama and ur bitch ass 2 hahaha a fuck u

  • Go on up there and get your ass whupped, Garry.

  • I enjoyed the photos very much, very beautiful, thanks for posting this!

  • Cool video. Cool song, but the words don't quite apply to Fischer. Saint Peter'll probably give Bobby the keys to the Pearly Gates. Did Fischer ever hurt anybody? No. He just spoke the truth as he saw it. Kinda like Jesus.

  • viva bobby! we loved you in the philippines.

  • ahhhhhhhh back in the good old days when bobby wasn't crazy in the head yet. Don't get me wrong i love this guy but there was somthing a little off with him. I play chess regularly and study his games. I have found that he plays at a different level then the rest of us and I have dreams of a world that bobby had kept playing for the rest of his life. "the worst thing in the world is wasted talent for him and man kind". And for those of you that think Kasperof would of beat bobby keep on dreaming

  • good old philippines :)

  • the more i study this guy the sadder it seems i become , what a fantastic guy, this video you posted Nirocal is just beautiful , so good to see bobby smile , we are all so much worse off without this genuine statesman in todays world , .Rest dear Bobby the cheats and crooks cant touch you now , i so wish you could come back

  • apparently Bobby had the second highest IQ score of any recent, recorded chess player at 187. i am not a true believer in the concrete, absolute-minded left brain; i think it takes both sides, the intellect and creativity, to produce the sort of creative genius Bobby was. i know he apparently didn't have any other serious talents, but his style on the board was very different than usual. he was super-aggressive. his creativity CRUSHED peoples lives on the chess board

  • Been to Philippines many times, worn a Barong as per my idol did. Bobby was the most fantastic player of all times. I was pretty strong at Chess in the 60/70s & could appreciate the brilliance of this GM. RIP

  • thanks for being in our country and wearing our national dress....

  • A pleasure - my son married a Filappina girl who is fantastic, love your country ( & Booby Fischer ! )

  • @TheGolfman84 but you can stil go back and we can play chess...

  • @TheGolfman84 but you can stil go back and we can play chess...

  • @TheGolfman84 but you can stil go back and we can play chess...

  • yes...bobby will always be KING, no matter what people say . sad that he went mad towards the end... i suppose the price he had to pay for being a genius

  • marvellous.... a treasure... absolutely love Bobby! will always be KING among men

  • i find it sad that bobby never new who his father was. but now hes gone its time to tell the world that bobbys father was king george vi he lived in londan at acland air force base and his name was peter know as bunny to the family .... if you will notice the strong looks of the queen s grandson william take a pictuer of george in the in hi younger years and hold it to booby pic there father and son and he was the heir to england and was sent away as a child by the queen mother...........

  • In 1962 Bobbypublicly alleged that the Soviets had colluded to prevent any non saiet specifically him from winning. He claimed that Tigran Petrosian, Efim Geller and Paul Keres had pre-arranged to draw all their gamesAverbakh, who was head of the Soviet team, confirmed in 2002 that Petrosian, Geller and Keres arranged to draw all their games in order to save their energy for games against nonSoviet players a statistical analysis in 2006 backed this up

  • Sublime pictures of a sublime meteor which burned through the chess world and changed it forever...

  • The song is a great choice. Amazing Vid.

  • This made me cry, love you Bobby.

  • thankyou for saying that oooooooooohmy,

    you said it quite well

  • great vid. aside from the politics it's great to see him look so settled and at peace. i think he was happier before he was WC, when he still had a fire to take up his thoughts. i think behind the scenes he was a very different man to what his public persona suggests. i know people in iceland who knew him in his later years and they say he was very different to what they expected. if they took the words and opinions of most people and spread them worldwide how many of us would also seem crazy?

  • Sorry i assumed you were American , i was wrong to do so,by the way , i do not have a hate towards the United States, i am dissapointed in its government tho over this issue , its a disgrace to what they preach, the "deranged " ones are the ones that pushed him.Look deeper my friend

  • You still dont get it , the question is why, what made him full of anger , you need to look deeper so you can understand why, saying his rematch in 92 was in bad taste is silly, its a game of chess, no one has any right to tell anyone they can or cant play a game of chess. You need to separate politics from sport, the truth is it may have even saved some lives if it caused a lull in the fighting which it may have done. The big powerfull U.S was so brave in there pursuit of ..... a chessplayer

  • Have you read profiles in courage, by J.F.K, if not , please take the time to do so,you will find in time,if it was possible, to include Bobby Fischers"life in there as a chapter.I wont separate him as you ask, the two are the same,he spoke out against the U.S. yes,so your country(politicans) went after him , how brave of them ! , i think both you and i would be angry as well if either of us were in his shoes at the time, i for one admire his courage.

  • My country? I'm not American. And if the US law went after him, its because he broke the law. Just the fact that he chose to play and make money in war torn Yugoslavia, was in bad taste. All his misery, all his 'fights', HE brought it on himself. He was the kind of person who was always at war with something or somebody. Full of anger and hatred

Just listen to one of his radio interviews, he was a very deranged man. But brillant at chess. Its that simple.

I have wasted enough time on this.

  • so wait , let me get this right , you are speaking of him with a taint of disdain, he was a fighter ,yes, he spoke his mind , yes, he was dissapointed perhaps in people yes , (and who hasnt) if they are to be truely honest, he was dissalussioned of the world, and how it works , yes, and again in all honesty who hasnt felt like that, try and discover the meaning of your own life before you make any more foolish comment, good luck with that , i wish you well

  • You need to separate Fischer the person, from Fischer the chess player. You probably think because he was great at chess, he was also a great person (kind, loving, understanding, open minded etc...)

I have news for you, Fischer was a perfect chess player but a very faulty person. If you can't see that, then you're in serious denial. I wish you well also.

  • you dont have much to offer , actions speak louder than words, you havnt learned much going by your self opinionated rather childish comment, as for your 2200 rating, do you know what lol is, you need to understand the depth of the man before you rant and rave. I think maybe its you with the mental problems

  • The only one who ranted and raved was Fischer. Or are you going to deny that he ever did that too?

  • Remember Einsteins words. GREAT MINDS HAVE ALWAYS ENCOUNTERED OPPOSITION/RESISTANCE FROM MEDIOCRE ONES!!, i think that those who ridicule and mock this man would do themselves a service to remember this , again rest easy my friend

  • absolutly without any doubt, bobby would whip the so called "modern" players into a frenzy, you would see them all crumble before his mastery and genius, rest now bobby, no one can hurt you now

  • I am sorry you feel that way wiseone0001 your comment does not match your name, the man was no "nut" as you put it , learn about his life , and enjoy his genius, and another thing , the song coldplay to the vision of bobby is just beautiful, its a good matchup , rip bobby

  • I probably know more about Fischer (and chess) then you ever will.

Fischer was a well known paranoid schizophrenic, suffering from corrosive antisemitism. I'm a 2200 rated player, I have learned more about chess from Fischer then any other player. He was amazing at chess, but you need to wake up and smell the coffee, he had serious, serious mental problems.

  • A good choice of music, I don't really like Coldplay, but lines like: I used to roll the dice, Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes, Listen as the crowd would sing, "Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!", whilst seeing all these shots of him in his prime put a lump in my throat, really moving. RIP Bobby, RIP.

  • In so many ways Fischer was just perfect. Perfect for chess and perfect for leading the chess world. He was handsome, tall, charismatic, workholic, physically fit, outspoken and he had genius level IQ and memory and his will to win was second to none. Caissa blessed us all by introducing this demigod to chess by young enough age to be able to realize his potential, by some sweet wonder Fischer fell in love with chess and the rest is history.

  • you are very right you said it all already i have nothing to say anymore... when i was a little kid being beginner to chess from the time i saw fisher's game play i knew he is not just an ordinary master he is the king of chessworld he dominated everyone!

its very sad it ended this way..

  • "He was handsome, tall, charismatic, workholic, physically fit, outspoken and he had genius level IQ and memory and his will to win was second to none." He and I had so much in common. :-)

    Seriously, I couldn't agree more .

  • you forgot one other thing... the guy was a nut.

  • I am so miserably sad for this guy watching this, its just beautiful . Good on you Bobby for speaking out,im so sorry for how people treated you,i hope its better where ever you are now you will always be king of chess, god bless you

  • @buzzbox1st

haha guess whos back ,u are afterall a fischer freak ;p

  • @buzzbox1st

king of chess??? Alekhine was king of chess u uneducated discriminating bitch

  • @buzzbox1st its okay mate. I feel the same for bobby. life changes people. He was just a consequence of circumstances.

  • @jackindobox ty jack

  • It's so nice seeing Fischer at his best. Lots of people forget that he is the last of the human world chess champions, and probably the greatest of all time.

  • Alekhine est le Dieu d'echecs!

  • So is there any video footage of fisher playing chess?

  • Sorry, I have no video clips.

  • @moriluk Ask Chester Fox

  • i have seen this video a lot of times, in this time i saw more photos!!!! greatt

  • thank you very much nicoral for sharing this beautiful video of the greatest king of chess (bobby fischer)

  • In the picture beginning at 3:25, it looks like Fischer is deep in thought, lol. Maybe he was thinking about one of his games, or a certain situation he had dealt with on the board.

  • Argh! Make that 3:27. It's so hard to pin-point the timecode on YouTube, lol.

  • At 3:25 Bobby smiling silly flanked by two pretty Pinays. Starting at 3:37 Bobby is eating, to his right is the MERALCO CEO Manolo Lopez, the Philippine chess champion GM Rosendo Balinas, who almost defeated him, and IM Renato Naranja.

  • Nice pictures of the gentle happy Bobby Fischer, well loved by the Filipino people, even before he became World Champion.

Rare footage and pictures too of the young Attorney, Grandmaster Rosendo Balinas, giving Bobby a hard time in their game. Bobby escaped with a draw, in the "Beat Bobby Fischer" series.

Balinas lived up to his title of 7 time Philippine Champion, and Asia's best at the time, by almost beating Bobby. The rest of the 9 or ten Filipino masters bowed to Fischer.

  • thank you very very much nirocal.

  • Another very beautiful video. Thanks nirocal!

  • Bobby Fischer = greatest genius ever in the history of chess.

    He will be sadly missed.

  • Thank You.

  • very sad!!!! times past and i miss bobby fisher smile.......

  • i think Grandmaster Rosendo Balinas is the Strogest Filipino chess player ever lived aside from wesley so...

  • Beautiful!

Love the shirts he is wearing.

  • great pictures!i miss my father so much!the late grandmaster Rosendo Balinas Jr.

  • Hi Rosa,

    I am sheer from Bahrain,

I was your fathers chess student during 1985-1986 and we saw u many times coming with your late dear father.

    We really missed him.

  • Hi!Im glad you still remember me.How are you?still playing chess?

  • Yes still !!

  • These are the very rare photos too of the great late Grandmaster and Attorney Rosendo Balinas, Jr. who was the only Filipino player at the "Beat Bobby Fischer Series" who made Bobby Fischer squirm, and played him to a standstill and drew their game.

You can see the big crowd and happy faces of the Filipinos surrounding Bobby Fischer and Rosendo Balinas' table as they were signing their score sheet.

Great, great pictures, thank you Mr. Nirocal.

  • Great!

  • "I loved it! Thank you!"

  • Thank you very much for posting. I have never seen these photos before!!! Thanks again...

  • MABUHAY si Bobby Fischer!

    MABUHAY si Marcos!

    MABUHAY ang Pilipinas!

  • Very moving. I miss Bobby..

  • Thanks again for posting these pics! Bobby really took a liking to the Philippines. I heard he even lived there for quite some time during his disappearance years. Having been raised there myself I often wonder if I could have somehow bumped into him in Manila, lol.

  • I have a few other pics of him meeting with some heads of state from a country, possibly in South America or Mexico. I do not recognize the people, nor can I give a date. It appears probably after 1973, but perhaps some people can help identify. Thanks

  • Thanks nicoral for posting these pics. Have never seen any of these pics before, they're great. Wonder if there's any more video footage out there of Bobby which people are hanging on to? For example the 1972 BBC interview with James Burke -- people must have the whole thing somewhere.. and the rest of the DIck Cavett interviews would be great to see too.

  • Yes all we get is that short clip from the Burke interview. Cavett said Bobby appeared on his show three times!!!.he's only released that one video and he edited it at that! Have tried to contact Cavett inquiring about the other two appearances to no avail:-(

  • Thanks. Song is Viva la Vida by Coldplay.

  • Cool, thanks, have just barely heard of this group, I'll have to check them out. You state you have had these albums for eight years and thought it would be interesting to let others see, these unseen photos. Well again thanks so much. Any chance you have any photos of Bobby from the period of 1975-1989??..this was another period where I have yet to see a single pic!

  • Great photo album of new photos I had never seen before, darn thanks much for posting!!!...Great tune to go along with it, who is it?..and who wrote it!?..thanks!!!
