It is not America, It is tribal and religious custom in these other countries and it is their rite. Here in america we cannot marry until 21. but, this is talking about other countries. I don't understand. They call the girls "Death brides" because they so commonly die in childbirth,,,but they continue to do this? I dont understand the parents or the husbands. I thought family was important and having children a blessing. Wouldnt it be better to marry an adult and have a many children that live?

I am not in any way defending what happened here... all I am saying is that we shouldn't throw the word "peadophile' aroundso readily. We need to challenge the traditions and educate the parents/ children of the dangers of early childhood births- poverty is a big issue.

In islam and I am pretty sure judiasm... puberty and not age determines adulhood... this is not limited to the faiths... but also depending on where one lives and the cultural customs... so before labelling people as paedophiles... we have to consider this. We can't judge the people by our standards... we have to consider their standards and their enviornment and ofcourse the time people live in. I would have thought this is common sense.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it is important to remember that cultures vary and depending on the socioeconomic situation and the country or customs, the marriage age differs. A child giving birth or even marrying at a very young age is a norm to some traditions, and is not restricted to just muslims... they sort of thing is also found in some African and asian traditions.

Certainly, in earlier times compared to modern times... women married and gave birth at very young ages. Lina Medina of Peru holds the world record for youngest live birth: She was five years, seven months old when she gave birth in 1939!! The mother of Henry VII of England was 13 years old when she gave birth to him in 1457.
