  • ya know id like to hear virgil play a live set for meshuggah

  • Guys seriously there's nothing wrong with this guy playing technical stuff. He's been playing all his life and has been in several bands where he's played groove stuff in 4 freakin' 4. Don't be so harsh to criticize when all he's doing is pushing the boundaries as much as he can on the instrument. He works his fucking ass off practicing all his life for about 10 hours a day. He can do better than a lot of ppl so shut the hell up.

  • @Toto99fan Technical music like this has no soul, it's disgusting and should be band. It's the sort of music that Hitler would listen to.

  • @hoodlum666 First off you spelled 'BANNED" wrong! Secondly dickhead, no its not a cheap trick for his mum being there. She lives in Melbourne, he lives overseas. She likes seeing her son play once in a while. Excuse me if ur a sorry ass loser who's parents wouldn't want to see u. its called support! Thirdly, i already told u that he is PUSHING the boundaries of technique. he's been playing all his life and is probably bored with playing simple stuff.

  • Fuck Virgils chops are gay, listen to his cheesy as fuck backing track. I saw him live a year ago and my god what a wanker, had his mum up at the front of the stage and expected us to praise. Guy's a dick. Check Benny Grebb. PEACE

  • @hoodlum666 Virgil's got talent, but I agree with you to some degree. Not a musical player, just a lot of showing off technique... I want to hear something that grooves, and has musical purpose. Steve Smith, Jojo Mayer, TOTALLY Benny Grebb, and Todd Sucherman- those are musicians!

  • @hoodlum666 What's so wrong with having his mum there?? He is actually a nice guy and i'd like to c u do half of what he does. He's one of the most technical drummers ever and he works his fucking ass of man! u don't know him so don't hate on him for no reason dickhead...

  • @Toto99fan, There's everything wrong with having his mum there.. It's cheap props from the audience, don't use your mum to help you with your sales of crappy Planet X tracks. Who cares if he is technical, is Wolfmother that technical? Nah, they aren't and they are ROCKSTARS!!! MAH FAH ROCKSTARS!

You are right though, I definitely couldn't do what he does, but I don't care cause I'm gonna make more money than him one day. BTW, Toto is a gay fan name.

  • @hoodlum666 Music has NO rules. its a form of art and expression and if u can't understand that than ur an imbecile. As for ur Hitler comment, that is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Ur just arguing out of spite with nothing to back u up. And judging my user name AND his technique by sexual orientation is pathetically immature.

  • @hoodlum666 Wolfmother r a totally different realm of music and backgrounds. Excuse the people who actually want to do something different. A rockstar is an image. He is a musician! Even though i don't mind Wolfmother. But i didn't say anything about them ur just bringing random opinions outta the sky cos u can't think of anything intelligent to say. Virgil travels the world, he makes loads, has heaps of admirers and is a nice guy. So shut the Fuck UP!!!!

  • @Toto99fan Just cause you listen to shit music you big dummy. WHY DONT YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • @hoodlum666 Umm...you're comeback sucked major balls there. You don't even know what music i listen to u freaking idiot! No sir...you need to shut the fuck up. Calling me a big dummy?? That was a great retort. Try again later.

  • @Toto99fan You are such a dumb brain aren't you? I'm trying again now. I know the bands you listen to, power star bands. I bet you listen to Pantera on repeat. I like how you referenced some gay shit about Toto to me that you clearly got from wikipedia and it infact was not prior knowledge. Guess what I'm listening to atm? It's Toto... AND ITS GAY AS FUCK! Virgil can try play guitar but he'll never be as good as James Hetfield. Jerk.

  • @hoodlum666 omg...u r such a dickhead. lol. I don't know what the hell a power star band even is AND i don't like Pantera u fucking cunt. And no i didn't get that info from Wiki. I had already attained that knowledge prior to telling u. stop pretending like u know me when u don't. i can't even believe u would even try to claim u do. james hetfield is nowhere near as good as Lukather.

  • @hoodlum666 U need to get some intelligence and some manners. go listen to ALL of Toto 's stuff. all their session work and their albums. u can't judge antone on one or two songs. u know NOTHING about them and u know NOTHING about me so once again shut ur fucking mouth u dirty little fuck.

  • @hoodlum666 btw that cheesy backing track is a planet x tune. what the hell is wrong with demonstrating a song he plays with his band?

  • @Toto99fan, His band is a fucken joke. That isn't music, that's wanking at it's finest. His music has no soul, this is just absurd.

  • @hoodlum666 Continuing my argument..He used to be in tons of rock bands that played simply ie Southern Sons. Don't bag my user name cos Toto are amazing musicians that were each individually the top session guys in LA during the 70s 80s and right through till now. Look up their discographies and u may learn something. Virgil's band play music that they are capable of playing that is different from other styles. its called originality.

  • If Virgil is not a technical drummer, i am Brad Pitt!

My Top 4: Hernandez, Colaiuta, Donati, Chambers.

  • All I can say is How the FUCK inbred cousin licking, felching,Shit stain idiots comment on this "Rhythmical Visionary s Technial Skill : ...You have to remember these are the same tools that think Travis Barker anf fucking Cobus can play !!! Fuck dont start me on Cobus .its the biggest joke on youtube , tapping along to a Cover song and doing it badly! Addding absolutley nothing to the song, its like drum lesson practise for kids ...A lot of Virgils Band music is iffy but fuck he can Play!

  • I agree that Donati is one of the most technical drummers out there, but it's not all about technicality. You need to have groove, and you need to have musicality. I'm not saying Donati doesn't have either one, but I think he is the kind of drummer, like Thomas Lang and Thomas Pridgen, that focuses so much on technical skill over a groove. That's why I love drummers such as Vinnie Calaiuta and Chad Szeliga, cause they focus on both an equal amount.

  • Damn, i gotta git me some of dose 'Air Toms'!!! :P

  • @11brassmonkey11 search for "virgil donati remo" and click on te first video... he's just warming up but look how.... Just watch it! :D

  • @c0d3x001 Wow, good call on the video. That was indeed amazing.

  • critiquing this is any way is pure madness. theres nothing this man cant play.

  • great drummer, I wish it were a better quality recording though. The sound quality isn't that great.

  • omg how does he play this intro does anyone know ?

  • quantum of solace bond theme lol

  • theres a new level of drumming , thanks to virgil.... is a real MODERN DRUMMER!!

  • Virgil is at the top of the heap...there is also Gavin Harrison, Manu Katche, Simon Phillips and Todd sucharmean...to name a few...Thomas Lang, Richard Hayward...but this virgil guy...wow!

  • 4:13 "yeap"......lol

  • I'v been following virgil's playing for some time now ,and he's very technical ,but also has a very strange and odd time signature style of playing.Almost not musical.

  • @GiovaniB52 his odd time signature style of playing is only non musical sounding if all you listen to is regular factory made music in 4/4 and possible 6/8 every one hundred songs. the more you listen to progressive type music, something that actually takes talent to make, his solos sound more groovy :)

  • @sector311 - Exactly. Well said man...

  • Can someone please turn off the crap music he's playing to so I can enjoy the drumming, hehe! I especially like how he's practiced not using his left hand during the beat at 0:43, 0:58 and 1:11, haha...nice ;-) No need to bear a grudge against me, I like Virgil! Cheers!

  • Don't like so much this version of "Quantom Factor" . I like the first one

    with tony macalpine - I'm a guitarist.

    Like virgil's stuff

  • I would like to see Samijn TRY to program his computer to play Virgil stuff. Maybe he has been sucked into programming gay, cookie cutter, Pop, rock beats, all day long, to be able to enjoy pure creativity and hard work like Virgil Donati !!!!!

  • Best drummer = Pete Magadini

  • Virgil is a very technically ABLE drummer, but not a technical drummer. Hear hes playing with all different pop/rock groups...on youtube. (Tina arena, Soul Sircus, Southern Sons ((great band!!! great drumming!!)

  • Not a technical drummer??? LoL

He's one of the most technical drummers of all time. He is well known for his technical attributes.

How anyone who isn't near this level can make that assessment always amazes me.

There aren't a handful of drummers who ever lived more technical than him. You're seeking to sound more qualified than you are by opting for the word "able" which there is no need for.

If he is able and expresses that ability at all then he is technical.

    Perplexing some people are.

  • well i might have not been clear. what i meant whit "technbical able" techical drummer" is that Virgil doesnt always play technical. Being a technical drummer makes him sound like this is the only thing he is about...

I actually dig hes playing even ore I think when he plays in simple pop/rock groups. Thats what I meant, he CAN play the most technical stuff in the world and is not afraid to show it, but its definetly not hes style. I like how he plays very simple sometimes

  • btw I dont think im better than him, didnt said that. Im only 19 and i have the biggest respect for him both as a musician with taste, and both becouse of hes extremely genious techical abilitys to stretch the art of drumming, which for me shows hes true love and passion he must feel for this intrument. Hes my hero man

  • Oh ok. I guess I misunderstood. Sorry about that.

    Peace

  • @MuscleBound46 people get angry when they find out there are people who have more talent in their ass cheek than they do in their whole body, just like anyone who says virgil isnt technical. it sort of makes you wonder who they think IS technical, and how the fuck they could have the audacity and ignorance to say such things. Along with Marco Minnemann, and Gavin Harrison, Virgil is one of the best I have EVER seen.

  • @MuscleBound46 I can only think of Mike Mangini

  • @FifthSeasonMusic Mangini sucks arse!.

  • @MuscleBound46 who's more technical than Virgil Donati? the only one that can even come close is Horacio El Negro Hernandez ... and that's highly debatable as to MORE technical... maybe Lang but not from what I've seen ...

  • @MuscleBound46 Man why do you even talk with those retards. Those are 15 year old kids who don't have a clue what's going on and have no knowledge to understand what and how it's played.Top 3 drummers of the world at this moments are Donati,Calaiuta and Steve smith. And Dave Weckl ok that makes it top 4 in no order just all amazing.

  • Good point! Thumbs up! I mean, Virgil can go out on a clinic tour and blow our minds, but when out playing with a, let's say more "real-world" kind of band, he uses very little of his crazy over-the-top technical ability. I love him for that. He knows what NOT to play as much as what to play. Mind you, when he's just laying down time, it's technically PERFECT. Amazing player, truly special. Thumbs up!

  • I totally agree! I love Virgil's work in "normal" music, hes a great mainstream drummer too, very steady, well thought-out beats that always fits perfect to the song, great feelings...I also love hes progressive side, even if I have to say even prefer when he plays prohgressive music with a more laid back touch...like Derek Sherinians first Planet X cd from 1999

  • 0:09 - 0:39 impossible

  • This is the most technically difficult song I've ever learnt. How the fuck he does what he does at 3:45 is insane. Best drummer EVER.

  • I believe he's playing sextuplets on the BD's broken up into groupings, 12's, 7's, 5's, 2's, etc. (marked by the snare) Sbbbbb-bbbbbb Sbbbbb-bbbbbb etc.

So, like, I've just tried playing groupings of 6's (Sbb-bbb sbb-bbb sbb-bbb sbb-bbb) & 4's (sbb-bsb bbs-bbb sbb-bsb-bbs-bbb) This gives the 4's a slight over-the-bar-line feel, though not really over the bar, but over the quarter note I suppose.

Or, I could be completely wrong! But, What I think I've been hearing has been great fun attempting.

  • Thanks, I'm definantly gonna try that now.

  • Hes playing Quantum Factor from Quantum! I love that albu, and he seems very proud if it i think he proved something big to us and himself by writing nearly all the songs alone. He often plays them in other versions in clinics!

And if you think hes solos arent that inspirational anymore, Quuantum certainly has some of the coolest, experimental technical grooves ever!

  • I have a better sounding version...from the pre quantum era...

  • is it the older quantum song? I remember seeing a vid when they played it on the Moodbabies tour and it was pretty different but still very nice.

  • No puedo creer que nadie aplaudio al final...

la mejor version de Quantum en video...

    Virgil un virtuoso... genio

un capo el que subio el video

    Thankssss

  • Yeah ok....hes great and all....and I am a fan but.....now all of his drum solo stuff sounds EXACTLY THE SAME!!!

  • I agree

  • get your ears checked mate

  • Theres nuthin wrong with my ears Fucky!!! why dont you get some simple common sense and wake the fuck up!!!

  • \o/

  • QUANTUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
