  • The ends do not justify the means. While the Irish Rebellion against English tyranny was certainly a just cause, the means they used were not just.

  • @avemaria716 Irish rebellion against English tyranny IS a just cause and the English have shown over and over that they will not give up anything they've stolen peacefully. Tiocfaidh ár lá!

  • UP THA REBLES DIE THATCHER I HOPES SHE CROKES IN HELL UGLY BITCH

  • While the bombing of innocent peoples is never something that should be touted as heroic. Sometimes, what must be done must be done. There is a War going on in Libya right now and if the U.N. and the Cowardly E.U would step in and shoot down Gadafi's planes then freedom and peace might take hold. But not, the "civilized" peoples of the world are content with sitting by and doing NOTHING. All it takes for Evil to succeed is the apathy of good men.

  • All this talk of bombs and such is making me thirsty. Someone fetch me the Jameson and Baileys, there's traditions to uphold.

  • I do not approve of bombs anywhere. Bombs kill innocent people. My ancestors were Irish, English, and Scots, farmers, shoemakers, bakers, just ordinary people, and none of them hurt anyone else so far as I know, just tried to make a living for their wives and children. I don't blame you for hating the lords who took the money from the working people, but the IRA are a bunch of murderers and I don't think my Irish farmer ancestors would apporove of them any more than I do!

  • @happyman70 I read your posting and I'm sorry to say not all IRA men are killers just in any army you have men that do things that are wrong but the group as a hole has a goal of peace not war.Just like I don't hate every English soldier just because he had to take up arms agaisnt Ireland it was the few evil ones that shot kids and women in the streets thats that turn the people to hate all.Hope you don't go on hating all for the actions of few after all you should live your name happy man.

  • Love the song - but not the IRA! They were planting bombs in London and other English cities for many years. The people in the North voted to remain English - the trouble is that terrorists can't accept other people's right to choose. The IRA set bombs that blew up children in their strollers until mothers of all faiths said enough and marched against the violence. (I'm American.)

  • @happyman70 innocent people were killed but not on purpose, but either way any innocent is too many. but the IRA were only trying to free their country from british tyrany, after 800 hundreds years of rape and murder of our women and children by british animals.your comment is gone beyond hyocritical.what about yer bombs in ww2 and vietnam that killed thousands of innocent people but i guess that was different cus der yer bombs.der would be no war in ireland if it was nt for the greedy english

  • the only truth is this, the emerald ilse of eire is celtic, and united it shall be, free from oppression , and from foreign rule

  • @xxfirdarrigxx the ONLY truth is that Celts were not the original inhabitants but came across from Europe what about the Normans who invaded and settled in the 12 century, also Danes & Norsemen who also settled and mixed over the centuries. Sorry we dont need racist NAZIS like U who talk about a pure Celtic Nation. Even the protestants have been here for 400 years.Uninonists love the likes of you as it keeps alive the reason to stay British. The EU & IMF are the new foreigh oppressors

  • English tyranny lives on still

  • Out with the Kingdom

  • Gee. All this time I thought all those Presbos were forced from Scotland by the Land Clearances. What is wrong with those Scotties anyway? Don't they realize we share the same DNA.

  • och i will never wear the green never, go back to IRELAND ,we are BRITISH

  • Proud to be Irish

  • tiocfaidh ar la!!!

  • And the Brits call the IRA terrorists! IRA is no more a terrorist organization than were the American revolutionaries. The only difference is the Irish have access to England herself, where the Americans did not.

  • of course American revolutionaries were terrorists and their treatment of loyalists was viscious (written out of history books) 25% of the population were forced to flee to Canada and their property stolen(seized). and those that stayed often had their businesses boycoted. Pretty similar to the republicans driving out protestants after independence in Ireland

  • @sandyrow100

The American Revolution was quite nasty on both sides (and it was indeed sanitized, especially in our history books), but most of the loyalists left for Canada simply because they didn't want to live under a republic, which is their problem. Property seizures against the losing side of a revolution or rebellion have been pretty standard through history. But I think the new republic functioned much better without George's tyranny. Long live America and Ireland!

  • @fearlessfred14 As throughtout history it is the most fervent who take action which would suggest up to another 25% were sympathisers. So I guess Independence was not so overwhelmingly popular and it is undeniable that victimization took place. Sam Ellis (Owner of Ellis Island) was boycotted because he was a loyalist. Dont you think we would have been happy to have got rid of King George?

  • @Dragging1Canoe

Yes - u re absolutly right - and USA still know what to show and less to be....

  • @lalunas100

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are trying to say.

  • @Dragging1Canoe

d ont worry - my son is the same age - he wouldn t understand too at the moment - even he should have good reasons to do - i only thought that u do cuz ur postings - take it as this - have a nice day

  • @lalunas100

No, it's not that I don't get the point of what you are saying, its that the typos in your post are keeping me from actually knowing what you tried to type (no offense)

please type it again. thank you. and agian, no offense intended.

  • @Dragging1Canoe theirs no justication....

    judge yourself not others.

  • @Dragging1Canoe Yes, they ARE terrorists. The Northern people WANT to be part of Britain, so any attempt to force them into union through violence is terrorism, plain and simple. If the North wanted to be part of the Republic the IRA would be freedom fighters. Since the North doesn't, they aren't. Besides, the IRA's tactics make absolutely no sense. How is blowing up Northerners supposed to make them want to join the Republic?

  • @doubtinggeorge

I think the point is that if you side with the Brits then you're not a truly Irish and need to leave. ( not sarcasm)

  • @Dragging1Canoe Well, unfortunately for Nationalists, they don't get to tell the Northerners to leave. It's THEIR goddamn land, and they can do what they want with it, even if that happens to involve siding with the British. If the Republic wants the North, they need to give the North a good reason to want to be part of the Republic. Bombs and nationalist rhetoric are not the way to go. If the North actually wanted to be part of the Republic, Britain wouldn't be able to hold on to it.

  • @doubtinggeorge You have a valid point, the biggest problem with making the North part of the Republic is that a lot of Northerners are English in lineage. But it also brings up the point that the British invaded Ireland and so the land is originally Irish, so the Nationalists are somewhat justified in trying to get them out of Ireland. It looks like a cut and dry issue on the surface but it really isn't.

  • @Dragging1Canoe Ah, but the Scottish are mostly descended from Irish conquerors. Does that justify trying to throw the Scottish out of Scotland and sending them all to Ireland? No more than it does throwing the Northern Irish out of Northern Ireland. The same example could be made of non-Mexican Californians. Pretty much every land has been conquered and resettled at some point or another. Even the Irish weren't originally from Ireland, and took the land by force.

  • @doubtinggeorge You fool. The scots were celtic tribe migrating from ireland. it wasn't an invasion... spanner. The "Northern irish" invaded in early modern history by evicting and killing the natives!

  • @Cliathairi Actually, there WAS conflict between the Irish who came to Scotland and the people who were already there. Don't call me a fool just because you don't know your history all that well, As for the Northern Irish, American, Canada, and Australia were settled the same way. If the Northern Irish are assholes for the atrocities that were committed before they were born, so are all Americans, Canadians, and Australians,

  • @Cliathairi The Scots were Gaelic. The Picts were Briton. It wasn't exactly long lost brothers reuniting. Although MacAlpin's Treason did force them together into one tribe under the Scots. Even then it was almost 20 years before the Picts were fully subjugated.

  • @Dragging1Canoe and the american revolutionaries were also terrorists I do support the IRA cause but you have to know both groups are by definition considered terrorists.

  • @manoffewhomes But where is the line between terrorist and liberator?

  • @Dragging1Canoe That's the question of the millennium my dear friend, and the answer in my opinion is....

It completely depends on what side of the line you are looking at it from. the IRA are liberators from the point of view of an Irishman that agrees with them, amongst others who agree with them. However, others would see them as terrorists because they use scare tactics to get their message across

I agree with the former as opposed to the latter my friend and so do you I take it.

  • @Dragging1Canoe sin é

  • What do us rangers sing when you celtic bastards sing this at us we take a breath and sing a very calm and loyalist tune "remember poor thomas MC'DONALD" A BOY KILLED FOR being A PROTESTANT!

  • no he was throwing stones at a women in her car with her kids, in turn she naturally went up the kerb and killed him i dont think she ment it, I blame his father he is a secterian cunt and always has been, who in turn passed his secterian bigotery on to his son hence the result.TAL

  • Comment removed

  • M8 i am not gonna try and be mean he was killed he wasnt throwing stones 14 eyewitnesses account for it and i knew his da he wasnt even in the orange order but i will say this no child deserves to die over religon protestant nor catholic and you can tke it to the bank all this from a bigoted former UDA vol. no we all just tried to do was right for our country. I have respect for some of the braver IRA.

  • it's not about religion, its mainly about colonialism, discrimination and state backed terrorism on the unionist part

i do not share SF left ideology but what's crystal clear that colonies are still a nice business for countries like the UK, Spain or France that still owns few

  • @mencey72 Tell yourself whatever you need to in the end we cant continue this cycle of violence.

  • People living in the past talking and complaining about old Colonialist powers when we are now all colonies of the bankers and financial institutions. I am not a communist but the west was lucky that the Soviets became bankrupt first, but only just 20 years is not a long time in the history of the world

  • No ye sing hullo hullo cause its the only song ye know. It's about walking around in fenian blood.

  • their hanging men and women for the wearing of the green........do you people not feel ashamed of your past?bigots 1 and all

  • there uppity bastards who will never in their lives admit what they and their ancestors did to the Irish, Indian, Scottish, African etc. the list goes on and on.

  • Comment removed

  • you cant find greater bigots than the Roman Catholic church. Remember the crusaders who ransacked and murdered the Orthodox Christians of Constantinople and also forced Orthodoxs to submit to the Pope in eastern Europe and Ukraine

  • ohh u poor thing, last time i checked Ireland was full of Catholics, dont make the rest of the comments a rligious war.

  • well nowadays there are a lot of lapsed catholics. How can it not be religious when it was catholics who supported the IRA and they were the ones who turnede on protestants and massacred them before that protestants, especiall free churchers were supporters of Irish independence

  • Then the celtics will sing those brave protestant men :)...its not abour religion is about loyalist vs nationalist. Irish vs British. NOT Catholic vs Protestant.

  • Well put.

The IRA has liberated all but six counties. Those counties will, unfortunately, probably always be British simply because most of the populous is, in fact, English or of English decent.

  • @Dragging1Canoe the catholic population in the north is a minority. cause of the plantations.

  • @GODOFWAR1916 People always draw a line in the sands of history wherever it suits them. Celts are also "planters" as they are not the original people of Ireland, so we have got 2 groups of immigrants argueing with each other. The Roman Catholic church was also not the first christian church in Ireland

  • @GODOFWAR1916 what goes around comes around the Catholic Church in Ireland persecuted the Ancient celtic church out of existance, so much so you can barely find reference to it. The RC church are the masters of persecution and destruction what happened to the Jews and Muslims under the Spanish inquisition and also to the peoples and religions of South America

  • Sorry mate I dont live in the 18th century nor even the 1960s/70s so I feel as liberated as one can be these days with the global aliance of politicians and I am Irish. Just look whats happened in the south, as seen this week with that ex priest Carney and other pedos. and the years of Magdaline laundries. At least we were saved that up here.I dont consider the republic l;iberated as we did not get a workers republic.just a middle class church controlled society.

  • "name one SNOUT that died for his country "

    Wolfe Tone.

  • im german an im on irelands side...the damn british have stolen theire wood ->famine and all that shit...

    emerald island !!!

  • after what your people did in the First and second world wars you have no right to criticise Britain. You have starved, pesecuted and mudered millions way more than anything anyone can try to blame england for. It must really suck knowing what an earlier generation of your family did

  • It must suck even more to be living in another mans country and knowing that your presence is a crime. Fuck off back to Scotland and England.

  • Sorry to disappoint you Nonkopn1 I dont come from England or Scotland although iechnically you are right that i am living in another man's country in that I am Living in Belfast part of the UNITED KINGDOM and my family come from Westmeath. You tossers always assume that i am not Irish and you always view Ireland through green coloured glasses. you dont know your own history, non irish born rebels involved in the 1916 rebellion, no doubt these were committing a crime by being in Ireland.

  • Yeah it must.. just thing about what the glorious brits did in the past... slaughtering indians in north america and africa, opressing people in india, south africa and in other colonies all over the world, fighting wars on other peoples homeland like in the usa... oh yeah the brits are so great... i dont want to blame only britain, every nation did something terribly wrong in the past, also the spanish, french, russians, swedish... But i think you cant say that one was worse than another...

  • It would just not be fair to say to blame the ones who lost most of the conflicts... history is written by the victorious...

  • LCN dont forget Britain was conquered by the Romans, also the Angles, Saxons and Jutes(thats why the english are anglo-saxon) and later on by the Normans. The original english had to flee to the west. America are a superpower because they are super hypocrites. People complained about the Confederate flag being associated with slavery. Yet import of slaves was illegal there. Most slaves came on ships bearing the stars and stripes and Washington was a slave owner & the US slaughtered indians too

  • Yeahm i think i forgot the us in my list... but the nations i namend where just examples...

I should have also said: the us, the japanese, chinese... it would not made a big difference at all.

The only thing i wanted to say was: There are no nations who did all wrong and no nations who did all right and just because a nations mistakes where done just a few decades before, it does not mean that their doings where more terrible than other nation ones... they where all cruel, cause war always is.

  • im anti ulster anti prod anti brit anti england you name it burn the lot of the dirty stinkin black cunts and the queen. sandy row name one SNOUT that died for his country and cause....... you cant cause there is none all talk no action bunch a dirty smelly shitey cunts ERIN GO BRAGH

  • You are one big racist retard who can only swear. Im glad I'm in the "Black North" cos you lot are all f**ked up down there. So much for northerners being fellow irishmen, thats why there was partition they knew what would happen. I dont kneetlto anyone including the queen whereas you taigs are always on your knees. Call that freedom. You just cant hack it cos you couldnt stop partition after republicans action made it inevitable. How many times you gonna shoot yourself in the foot

  • you are one silly SNOUT cunt im from the north ya fukin rat im from republican heartland west belfast FALLS ROAD you didnt answer me name one SNOUT that died for his country and cause ya fukin RAT there is none UP THE IRA

  • Oh so you are from that shit hole, so I definately wont expect much from you(altho some nice people in the lower falls) So are all snouts bad? what about your snouts before the Easter rising. You hippocrytical wanker. You aint that great either the Taigs in the short strand had more guts. Im proud to be called a RAT cos it means I am Rabidly Anti Taig. Why dont you get a job and make yourself usefull instead of propping up a bar and spending your dole money

  • yoy still havnt answered me ya fukin SNOUT cunt whats wrong cat got your tongue and by the way ive got a fulltime job makin sure the SNOUTS in the west dont have an easy life i put every window through in 3 houses on the shankill last year hoping to get double that this year ha ha UP THE I.R.A ya SNOUT cunt

  • You half witted apology for a republican, what a poor effort. Ie done a lot more than that and my relatives had a much better bonfire in Bombay Street than they had on the twelth. I guess you could say a snout has died for his country if he is murdered. You taigs dont know the meaning of any kind of work. Dont forget the jingle on the TV advert "The future is Orange" Anyway why dont you come down to Sandy Row Ill make sure you get a real Northern Irish Welcome

  • Tiocfaidh Ar La

  • what a tune. up the ra!

  • I'm British not english and I like your reference to "a national hero" when I was growing up Michael Collins was not considered a hero he had to be rehabilitated and hee I am talking about the attitude in the South not what the english or protestants might think. N E way it was you who interpreted my reference to a happy ending implying it referred to Michael Collins death and dont forget it was fellow Irishmen that murdered him and must have been the intention of the ambush

  • i feel sorry for you guys, have you not got it byour own leaders sold you out allowed the Magdaline Laundries and priests who were given open house to sexually molest children. Ireland would have had freedom only if there4 had been the workers Republic. And dear old Dev giving his condolences on the death of Hitler, well if Hitler had won the war do you really think Irteland would exist

  • Judy Garland recorded a version of this song in 1940. A "B" side to Friendship (released August 1940). Fair play. Judy knew exactly what the Brits were up to. And what they were all about.

  • Is anyone like me and really enjoyed the film "Michael Collins" I so like happy endings

  • The IRA are part of a rebel alliance and traitors.

  • UP THE I R A !!!!!!!!!!!

  • people call the cira and the real ira terrorists

but what if a republican group

with 2000 men attacked belfast and tryed to claim it back for ireland

and even if they failed would you think they where terrorists even though no innocent people where killed ?

its all the same we have the right to fight for the land that rightfully belong to us

its just that most irish people are to afraid to fight for there countrys freedom

if wolftone or rebert emmet was here today theyed be ashamed

  • Exactly, most people in the south are free state bastards who have their freedom and as the poeple up North fight for their freedom, the free staters call them terrorists because they care more about money than their fellow county men.

    Tiocfaidh ar la

  • Lets see, well the UDA UVF UFF red hand and the Shankill butchers all say they are fighting for freedom and their rights. What do you sanctimonious people call them? dont tell me, probably terrorists but what have they done differently to the IRA

  • 85.9% of loyalist kills were innocent and they admitted they targeted innocent Catholics.

Less than 31%(this even includes Royal family, politains, etc.) of the IRA's kills were innocent and alot of those were killed in bombs which warnings were given. Also, all loyalist drug deal and pimp, not 1 provo was EVER charge on drug dealing or pimping. So I would call the UDA ect. drug dealing secterain gangsters and the IRA a guerrilla army.

  • catholics are anti ulster and enemies and not innocent. You call Ann street bombings innocent the wrong location was given on purpose so that people were sent to where the bombs were to maximise casaulties. What about La Mon when your "heroes" burnt people alive.Tom Travers daughter by mistake, an innocent teacher who was out walking with her da (a catholic judge) and greatest of all you put drug crime as more serious than murder. and the numbers game makes it right to kill innocents then.

  • Retard, anti ulster? They want to unite Ulster, if you include the 3 counties of Ulster in the Republic then Catholics/Nationalist have a majority. Loyalist are Ulsters and Irelands enemy so therefore, according to you, they are ok targets.

Thanks for backing me up by showing how much of an idiot you are.

  • why dont republicans and nationalists cut the crap and be honest. NATIONALISM is DEAD and nearly buried. REAL nSOVEREIGNTY has been ceded to the EUROPEAN UNION. Have shame Connelly was shot in the chair for Ireland only to have his political heirs sell out. He must be doing somersaults in the grave. DOESNT TRUTH HURT, the north is just a side show to keep peoples minds off the real danger to Ireland

  • The world don't belong to you or me. It belongs to the rich.

  • Was Wolf Tone ever ashamed when he was in London of his efforts to increase the power of the British Empire? save us from selective historians(namely most Irishmen)

  • Nationalists signed a treaty YOU guys PARTITIONED iReland, get over it, does anyone in the north feel less Irish because of a line on a map and was Charles Burgess more Irish cos he called himself Cathal Brugha. Just look at the Republic, and the corruption and immorality in politics and the church Y would any unioinist want to be part of that. Dev used his US citizenship so as not to be executed at least you can respect Connelly. If u hate Britain why are there so many irish there

  • Well then that same trreat applys to Britain... btw, nice way of changeing the subject there.

  • lol parras93 come to ireland and youll be sent home in a coffin

  • There's no such thing as a free Eire. There's the "Republic" or "Free State", but I refuse to recognize either of these as they are constructs of the English crown. Full freedom for all 32 counties!

  • Kelly Familys version its betta <3

  • It's OUR Island...IRELAND!!!

    County Cork, The Rebel County!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Me Grandfather was a Corkman!

  • my condolences

  • My father is a Corkman!

  • Irish-American here I was in Eire in 2002. My niece was married in the church in Adare where my grandfather was baptized. Spent the next ten days driving through the republic. We stopped overnight in Mullaghamore (SP) not far from Ulster. The subect of reunification arose around the bar one night, and the landlord said that if it came down to a plebiscite, Ulster would choose to remain with the Crown, because, the Irish in Ulster wouldn't want to give up its English welfare payments.

  • Unemployment paymeny is almost 3 times higher in the Republic.. we have the prob of people driving from the North down to claim it haha.

  • Great song

  • What arent the Irish free to do?

  • have a unified government on the island of Ireland. The republic is about 80 years old, opression and british savagery in Ireland is over a millenia old. The north still remains to be freed

  • @BrendanIsCool FREED? The North WANTED to remain British, which is why the six counties weren't given to Ireland. How is forcing them into the Union against their will freeing them?

  • 0:49 The CIRA are not the IRA. They are not freedom fighters, and they do not speak for anyone in Ireland.

  • GIVE Ireland Back!! (ex British Vet served in NI), give it back to the Irish, its theirs!! not the bloddy Brits, Yes free Eire (we were only doing our job and I am sorry), but form our side, we were unemployed and when we joined the army, sent to NI...that was 30 yrs ago..ERIN GO BRACHT ( hope I got that right)

  • Sorry mAte -they send you where they want you to gO!!, Like I wanted to go to NI- Hell no....I was unemployed at the time, so i joined the army//hell do you think I wanted to be hated??, I was just a pawn in a frickin game..and YOU LOT IRA or whatever -realise, we as unemployed guys, had to join up..sorry about our 'invasion'..did not want to be there, and hated it!! ( just think about what i posted)

  • Hey, what's that symbol at 1:44?

  • It is a shamrock fashioned in the style of a Celtic Cross. Old Gaelic Ireland, the shamrock and the use of circles to represent the sun God, mixed with Catholic Ireland, the overall crucifix shapedness of the symbol.

  • Tiocfiadh Ar La!

  • Ive heard one verse if im right that goes like this:

  • Thank you for playing this Raymond. I am a direct descendant of James Napper Tandy and am very proud to be so. You may take your shamrock from your hat and cast it to the sod but twill take root and flourish there, though under foot its trod!
