By "extensive book collection" he doesn't mean the Bible. Not sure how anyone gather that notion. He's talking about a collection of books that give him a base of contradiction against the comforts of the Bible (including in his eyes salvation, ultimately). History, science, biographies (of a depressing nature I would guess) I can't really say, searching the song didn't help me find context anyways.

The way I see the song is that he feels the world is far too corrupt for any biblical truth..

As far as I remember, From Autumn to Ashes is a christian band, much like As I Lay Dying and The Devil Wears Prada. So references to Christianity wouldn't surprise me in the least.

This world would still be flat, Mary would be a virgin and I would still be sleeping sound) was that "the extensive book collection" is the bible and if he didn't find the Bible, his soul would still be "sleeping" and wouldn't be shown the light of God, and would still be following false beliefs hence the part were it says the "world would still be flat".
