The first brass slides came from the old steel-wheeled tractors. It was one of the driveline bearings (I think in axles). Anyway, they were salvaged by enterprising young black musicians, such as James Cotton. Robert Johnson used one and the bottle, of course. The backwoods clubs were so noisy with patrons that the slide acted as an natural amplifier. Let the highs really cut through. Fittingly, it became a beautiful, haunting and immortal sound that would come to define the blues of the '20's
instead of pressing the notes (sorry bad english) you use the bottelneck to slide over them it's a hard technique to master bud as you hear very nice to listen to.
Originally, they used a bottle-neck. So some people refer to it as bottle-neck. But it pretty much has become a "Guitar slide" . Prefer the name bottle neck, sounds much cooler
mcblah, allthough you corrected yourself, your stupidity sickens me. also, the white stripes totally mutilated that song. it should only EVER be played by one man, and he is dead now.
Son House first recorded that as 'My Black Mama' with that riff,...Robert Johnson did his take on it and called it Walking blues.. Son house did other versions of walking blues that are totally different as well.
lol, please get over yourself. i'm sure you weren't around when Son House was recording either, furthermore i'm sure you discovered blues through modern recordings one way or another. Music like this comes only through a path of discovery, it's got nothing to do with stupidity. Your arrogance, however, is a sure sign of it.
Try searching 'slide blues' mate. A guy called Jesseblues plays some great slide guitar and has a tuition video to play CrossRoads by Robert Johnson. You could search 'JesseBlues' too. Brendan
This is really cool. The guy can play well, definetly worth watching if you're interested in Blues, slide-guitar, Robert Johnson, Son House or any other delta blues player.

the guitar is in open G tuning: D G D G B D Thats why he makes chords from sliding the bottleneck.

I actually it's called a guitar slide, but you can use a bottle's neck as as a slide, as some musicians do.

to be correct ;)
