Lovely! The mandolino is quintessentially Italian, of course, and the addition of your playing to Mascagni's scoring is brilliant. One can virtually feel the breath of the sea sweeping across the piazza. I have played the organ accompaniment to the Intermezzo in the opera house, and it is a beautiful, if now somewhat hackneyed, piece. Grazie!
Outstanding!!! You have obviously perfected your skill with years of focussed practice and effort, culminating in an exceptionally gifted and skilled musicial rendition. This is one of my most favorite pieces of music and hearing in from the mandolin in your hands has enriched it all the much more. You know know that your personal efforts have and Love of music has gifted another fellow human of the pleasure of your music. You are on your way to Greatness, Thank You, Thank You.
@paulmaters That was an exceptionally beautiful message - I am so glad that you like the music and my playing :) Thank you for listening and taking the time to comment.
Hola Thomas: Your performance is very nice, only one thing, there is too much orchestra for your mandolin. Maybe you need a better microphone for your instrument, or you lower the volume of the orqchestra so we can hear you better (probably the idea of the mike would be better). Lovely performance in a lovely instrument. Good luck.
Mr. Brady, just to let you know that this song has huge sentimental value to me as a person, and your quite stunning rendition had such a profound impact on me that it actually moved me to tears.
Once there was a Russian tenor who sang at La Scala for the 1st time. A nervous wreck before he went out; by the end of the opera, when everyone went out for the encore, all received an ovation. He was sent out alone and received a standing 'O'. So, he sang the aria again. Another 'O' and he sung it again, again, and again, 10 times. Finally he thanked the audience and said he was grateful but can't sing anymore. Then somebody in the crowd said, "you'll sing it 'til you get it right!"
your music is wonderful! i want to learn how to play, can you teach me? ive been playing the piano since i was a little girl, but i want to learn this...i cried listening. beautiful....
How do I find a version of this song that has this instrument in it, such as the above or the version that is played in Godfather III?? All the ones I've come across don't have this string component, which I love.
I'm a Ph.D student in University College Cork, In Cork there is Cork School of Music , CIT, it's free just turn up in September each year, a short interview and off you go to explore the world of music, plus there are grants that one can apply for.
Not meaning to sound like an idiot or like im trying to get compliments but i dont think im good enough. I can play simple stuff but i cant play quick songs. I prefer slow songs and also i do things by ear so i cant even read music. But thank you for saying i should anyway :)
Thanks for the comments. I do want to pursue it further, right now i am studying Film and TV but who knows what ibn the future :) out of interest, Do you play any instruments?
Wow, i would love to be in an orchestra, you are very lucky especially to play this song as well. I love Cavalleria Rusticana so much and I think this is my favourite piece of instrumental music. I am finally going to see the Opera (with I Pagliacci as well) in Sept, draggin my girlfriend along with me! Cant wait :P
hi! I'm marina I'm from Italy i live in a town where Mascagni lived and composed "Cavalleria Rusticana" I'm glad to listen to how you redition it,you have talent!! bravo!!
Tom, Beautiful indeed. I love your even and smooth strumming. I have so much trouble keeping it even, but I get re-motivated when I hear the mandolin like this. Peace, Rich
Your an inspiration - I adore this piece of music and is a tearjerker to me for some reason but i guess with most people who love this piece too. Well done.
You're great, and you have a great sense of ear too. This piece is one of my favorite piece to play and to listen to. You have done a wonderful interpretation.

wat instrument is that, a lute?
mrhackysack123 2 years ago
It is a Mandolin - it is derived from a Lute called a 'Mandore' - by the Italians and used largely in Napoli in the 19Century :)
