My sister & I went out last month. Was a bit tough to find at first. Fans have now taken all the mementos out of the U2tube, and have placed them in a large green container. There's a laminated photo of the U2 JT shot on the top. I also took a few photos with the little tree. :) Wonder if water was the culprit in the tree's demise? That dry creek bed is at the tree's base. We're already planning another trip down south in the spring. Fans have taken great care of the site - hope it continues.
My partner took me there for my 40th birthday...it was a life-long dream to visit the tree. Although it had fallen down it was still so special to be there... all the more so as while we were there he proposed to me and I said yes!
Oh yes! I was there 2 years ago! I left some gifts in the box :) My wife still wants to kill me for waking her up early in las vegas and drive there!!!!
Here is a hint for you: It isn't in Joshua Tree National Park. It is on the way to Death Valley off a dirt road from highway 120, east of Olancha. Quietly decaying in a valley between the Coso Range and Cerro Gordo Peak... look- don't touch and respect future visitors.
After all these years it's still there. The desert was green when you were there, was so dead on our recent visit.
Judging by the entries in the book it doesn't get too many visitors which is a good thing. Plenty of footprints in the dirt around the tree, but most likely no rain for many months.
Thinking of going to see it sometime before this winter sets in. If anyone can point me in the right direction on how to get there it would be much appreciated.
Oh, and if anyone wants to know where it is, I'll be more than happy to tell you. It shouldn't be this big secret, the only thing I would say to anyone who goes there is this; sign the book, take the pictures, take a moment to take it all in, then leave it as you found it. It's special, you'll know when you find it.
how is it going my name is Ben and I am a great fan I tryed to get directions but I would like to be sure I got the right ones is it in Inyo?? how do i get there??
Hey all, I was out there just 3 weeks ago, all the way from Ireland and out into the desert. My first time in the states and I have to tell anyone who wants to know, the silence in the desert is the most peaceful thing I have ever experienced. Finding the Joshua Tree was special. Anyone who's a U2 fan should do this.
hey just curious, am going to vegas in october for the concert. do you think you could help me find the joshua tree when i go there, if u have time reply back thanks alot.
i think every one who has visited the tree has had the respect to have their moment and let it be for future endeavors. besides it prob possesses a wicked curse to any one who tampers with it
amazing to actually see where they took the pic all those years ago, i wander could they of realised what fame awaited them in 1986, when taking the pic.
Its not that its a secret its just kinda hard to give directions to. Its best if someone who has been there before takes you. There's no landmarks for you to go by, so you can't really tell someone how to get there.
It would be nice to have a replica of it made at the site.
thats pretty cool how people made the Elevation suitcase and the Vertigo target out of rocks..i really want to go there and see it but by the looks of the other comments the trees no longer there??
Hello All, I Finally made it out to the site and managed to locate the tree on June 22nd. The tree is indeed still out there as well as the plaque (the rumors of the tree being gone are BS). I will put the videos that I took on here soon just to give you all an idea of what the tree looks like today. What an amazing place, A truly unique landscape!
the is no longer there, but i think there should be a plaque which i didn't see anyways, can anyone tell me if the plaque is still there? that entire area looks the same but i'm pretty sure i was at the right place
hey guys, just went there and i was sure i was in the right place but didn't see the plaque, has anyone been there lately? just to make sure i was in the right place
please let me know, also if you have any info my email is kentbrookman at hotmail dot com any info will be appreciated, i wanna know if i was wrong cause in that case i'll go back before returning to my country, thanx
Wow, that made me cry. I want to go there. I think the plaque is respectful and the rock tributes are great. It is very spooky how the tree is still there on the ground, and hasn't vanished in to dust.
I will be in Vegas the spring and the thought of driving out to pay my respect has crossed my mind. The latest information about the remains still being there i can find is 2005. Does anyone know what's still there?
I belive the tree is in Bodie,Nevada on the California/Nevada state line in the Mojave Desert. You ca look it up on the net.google"Bodie,Nevada".Good Luck..
So sad!!!!! I can't believe it's gone. The music is still so alive!

Shocked that much of the tree is still is still left on the ground. Figured scavengers would have devoured it by now.

I want to go there.
What I don't understand is why everyone insists that this place is so secret, and no one can tell anyone where this magnificent place is.
I wouldn't even be able to go for years. I live on the East coast.
Is it in Bodie, California?
I'm dying to find out. Is anyone else?

The tree died and eventually fell over because someone cut a limb off of the Joshua Tree as a souvenir.
