I know this comparison has been made before, but what I love about this movie is how the visuals, the music, and small melancholic touches (the way Togusa looks at the children in this scen) evoke the same mood as Bladerunner. I never get tired of watching either of these films.
@SamuraiTogo Actually, I don't find it strange at all. Many Japanese anime incorporates element, if not culture of other countries. It is a very common feature that appears in most animes and mangas. If I may, I believe some parts of Taiwan's old fashion styles in temple celebration are also mixed into the scenes. Overall, I can see Hong Kong here the most, but the director doesn't just stick with one culture, he incorporates so many that it becomes this ethereal, dreamlike state.
let's not forget that this is a movie from Japan. the music made by mr Kawai isn't creepy at all, because this is a ballad sung by a choir of women. and a damn beautiful ballad. consider the lyrics and how it is very similar to the opening ballad from GITS1.
i think it's not creepy but it has the mood like Blade Runner had.The whole world is sorta fucked up.The borders between nations, traditions, ethnicitis are gone.humans are playing gods.the parade is the meaning of happines but director used this creepy music to underline this mood.
h3y, such a w0rk of art;-)....if ya ever talk to anyone who thinks anime is just for little kids---ala Pokemon/DragonBallZ, etc---well, this will wake them up^_--)......p3ace0ut....=][=
first thing i saw in 1080p on my full hd flatscreen back when it was new, my mind was blown that moment.

I highly prefer GITS francise than Blade Runner.
This scene alone blows up all that overrated "classic"
Hackmoune 2 years ago
@madmoovz Very cool observation. Also Chinese mythology and even to a certain extent, Taoism, spread to Japan.

beautifully animated but I prefer the Paprika parade

yeah i saw that too. IMO the paprika parade looks like something my 5 year old niece would like. This parade looks and sounds more adult oriented.
