@mewrth huh, tx so much mate! so, the early first "horror-teathre-show-man/pioneer of music world" was Alice Cooper with his The Earwigs (then renamed The Spiders), is it correct? Was Alice the first among everybody! right?
@yerfc66 Also worth noting , Richie Blackmore was in his band , [ lord such ] , would of been Richies first big gigs , you can read this in Richies first guitar player magazine [ him on the cover ] , Lord such was an excentric , that actually made it into British Government , one of his outrageous ideas was to put all the young people on the dole , onto a giant treadmill to generate electricity !!!!!! , this is fact .
@mikeyquaint seems to me hes the pat boone to screamin jay hawkins, only one can be the origional thing to intentionally scare white parents.(little richard doesnt count, cause he was intentionally scaring, lol)
His backing group, The Savages, were a top rock and roll band. Seem to remember them opening with 'Great balls of fire' in Wantage round about 1964. Tragic that he took his own life a few years ago. Rock on Dave Sutch.
Pitty you don't have the whole of this vidio . I remeber seeing it on TOTP2 . Never realised he was a singer up until then . Since bought the single costing my £12.00
@ajaku I saw Screaming Lord Sutch at the Empire Hall, Totton, UK, in about 64/65. When he burst onto the stage waving his knife around, at least six girls fainted--crashed straight down on the floor.
Sorry CupisHomines I pressed the wrong button!! a senior moment, i'm allowed them now, ( I am the only blond sitting in the front row in this 1964 video, I was 15 at that time) !!!!
Would love a copy of the BBC doc. I expect you know the BBC doc was filmed in 1964, this video being filmed on 29 Sep 1964 at the Lotus club Forest Gate. It was shown on BBC2 on Fri 23 April 1965, not having BBC2 at that time I never saw the doc. The longer versoin of this video was used on Top of the Pops 2 and put out on 9 Nov 1996. So keep your fingers crossed perhaps the BBC will put it on a TOTPs DVD at some time!!!!! let me know if you find it,
Saw the whole version of this on TOTP2 back in 1996 . First time I ever heard it . Good though it is thought the record when I got hold of it sounded different . Like to have the whole version of this performace
This was filmed on 29th Sep 1964 at the Lotus Club, Forest Gate, London. For BBC2. my friends and I are in the fount row (I am the blonde) . It was put out on DVD in 2005 as part of 'Screaming Lord Sutch (great British legends) by Horror Scope Distributions. Can't find a copy anywhere, can anyone help?
You look fantastic, and I'm jealous of you being there. There was a longer version of this up last week but it's been taken down by Youtube due to copywright stuff :(
i am a heavy metal fan and see this as an important step on the path to where we are today. i see screaming lord sutch leading to slipknot through alice cooper.
Btw people, save this video if you can. It had been deleted from youtube when I found it, so if all you can keep it going then it's better for all of us!!!
I second that! I used to watch this all the time on YouTube and then it vanished. This is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen. I love it more than my own children! Thanks for posting it again, friend.
doesn't matter if he stole something from screaming jay hawkins cuz the music is very different and they are BOTH great (plus screaming jay was more of a voodoo jungle preist and screaming lord was more of a murdering ghoul..)
apparently "The Lord" has said that he was "insired" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins and his stage persona. Sutch stole both his name and most of his act from Hawkins stage antics like rising from a coffin at the beginning of show to props like skulls and daggers. Hawkins, unlike Sutch, had a long career with several hits ... "Put a Spell on You" was released when "The Lord" was 16.
I saw him do this at St George's Hall, Whyke, in 1963. He was crap really, but you had to warm to a bloke who started his act rising from a coffin with a toilet seat round his neck. Most acts were still terribly clean-cut at that time, and one longed for a bit of disgustingness. The band were very good, but most of their material wasn't up to much. I bought Jack the Ripper, and I'm A Hog For You, very good.
He did influence Alice Cooper, who in turn influenced Manson. Screaming Lord Sutch was probably the first shock rocker, but Sutch also copied the black R & B musician Screaming Jay Hawkins - the name obviously, & the coffin gimmick. Hawkins also used to perform with a skull, but his music was more R & B, & tongue in cheek..
Lol 'tis, ok. Glad you appreciate it! It used to be on youtube ages ago but it got deleted, it took me a while to find it again but I thought it deserved to be on here :)
Shame that's only part of it! ... I've got the whole thing on videotape. I recorded it from TOTP2 or something similar, years ago. Some of the girls are really scared! It looks like around 1963 to me.
I would have done so already if I knew how to! I've been trying to find out how to upload from a VHS tape both on youtube and the net. I suspect I need some new hardware which I can't afford at the moment unless it's cheap. The other problem is that my TV set died not long ago ... I bought a very cheap one as a stop-gap, but it doesn't play tapes. I've got various old stuff recorded.
If your graphics card has an input socket, you should be able to connect this to your VHS player output. There should be some free capture software available on a downloads site.
I just looked at the spec for your Radeon 9550card. It has three connectors - a VGA 15 pin, a DVI 29 pin, and an S-video output. From this it appears that the S-video is the third one, but it says it's output, so you should check to see whether there is an input feature there. If not, I imagine you will have to get either a seperate graphics card, a USB capture device, or, if you have an analogue TV card, feed your VCR output into the aerial socket of the TV card.
