  • Great song. The rest of the album, eh.

  • He invested his money in "Killer Shrimp" in Studio City CA. Used to eat there a lot but I hear it has since closed...what a song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Funkadelic at its best. But it was his Carnival of Life album that got me hooked.

  • Without Limits???

  • Here's another classic song that I grew up to as a young child! I remember hearing these songs on my mom's radio or 8-track tapes! This song, evokes great memories for me! BobbyK

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year's. From Sandra Dee Lawson.

  • Did Springsteen find this an inspiration for Glory Days? Wondering..... echos of it in chords, tempo and feel.

  • Is it just me or does this song sound way ahead of its time? This could have come out in the 80's!

  • Love the slide show! Takes me back to a better time and place...I remember listening to the song 5,000 times on my little black Panasonic radio...it actually sounds better now! Thanks for the good memories!

  • I will be 60 in a week. This song was and still is great. The music today can not compare.

  • When both life and music was good.....

  • I named my son Paul Lee Micheal......I was and still am a fan

  • Oh Yeah

  • During the one short period where I personally tuned the radio to the Top 40, this was one of the 40. And I got sick twice and stayed home from school for about six days in three weeks, so several of the songs were getting run into the ground-- but I was waiting for the half-dozen I really liked, to come around again. This song worked its way up into that top group, for me... although I sometimes feel a little woozy and feverish when I hear it nowadays.

  • My roommate in college used to play this before going to a test. God I miss those days. Rock on Bob, whereever you are.

  • Justin Bieber does a version of this in his live show. It's pretty damned good!

  • @shatchett0 ...Please, don't!!!!! Ha!

  • Great sounds from a bygone era.

  • I love this song, and the way he sings it. Great singing (feeling) and great organ.

  • Sandra Dee Lawson.

  • This song was universal. I remember being a black teenager in 3rd ward Texas in the 70's, 4 cornering with friends to this song. I was the shiznit!

  • Does anybody but me miss these days? Do You Know What I Mean?

  • @hotstuffandicecream Man I miss em too fast cars sweet chicks cold beer and rock n roll it was a great time to be alive I do know what you mean. How about that 55?

  • @hotstuffandicecream Don't miss the days, except for graduating from high school so I could really look forward to leaving home. Do you know what I mean? But, I surely do miss the music from then, even though we can listen to it now, not like when it first came out- it was a refuge for a lot of us. Do you know what I mean? lol

  • @hotstuffandicecream I was born in 1982 and i miss these days myself. My dad has all these awesome 70's stories. Back when America was America.

  • @hotstuffandicecream I first heard this tune in July of 1982 and thought that was the year it came out. Lo and behold, I was wrong. This is a 1971 classic! Wow, forty years has transpired, and I still love it.

    Posted on November 30, 2011.

  • @hotstuffandicecream you mean when top forty had som eintlligent music on it?

  • @hotstuffandicecream I'm in my sixties and am finally....and I mean finally, getting back there. Its' been an interesting journey with few regrets.

  • @hotstuffandicecream It's not Do you Know What I Mean anymore . It's do You Know What I'm Sayin and it SUCKS .

  • @hotstuffandicecream I know what you mean!

  • CLASSIC!

  • Growing up in Southern California I remember this song screaming out of my transistor radio on 93 KHJ "Boss Radio" with my favorite jocks, "The Real Don Steel,Charlie Tuna, Sam Riddle and Humble Harve. I still have those Weekly Surveys that would show the "Boss 30" top hits and hit bounds.

  • This song KICKS ASS!

  • I never know what anything means...But this song is awesome..

  • Great song. Lee Michaels would get a great big funky sound on stage with just two other musicians. I read how he would open up for big rock bands in his early days. The greatest funky drum vibe I have ever heard.

  • I'm positive I know what you mean

  • classic 70s pop radio staple

  • Hoo

  • His album with this tune on it has several other great nujmbers can i get a witness being one of them If you like this tune, and who doesn't check out his other stuff

  • This song rocks so hard its amazing, what a groove

  • A great tune to be jamming too at the age of 11

  • wotta wow! my folks played this song a trillion times when i was a kid but i always thought it was some black dude singing. you sure you're not mistaking?

  • @achillestyles this is the cat who wrote it and performed it bro! trust me, there was only one lee Michaels!

  • Just came home from Viet Nam when this song hit.......wow, was blown away by it. Many a night making the swoop home from Parris Island for the week-end, listened to this with my best friend. At one or two in the morning we'd be singing this at the top of our lungs with the radio, laughing our asses off. I miss those times, I miss my friend, he died 2 months ago, but what memories we had, the MARINES, Police Academy togeather and crusing the night away......

  • You gotta love the Hammond B-3

  • Best song, ever.

  • I don't get the car comments? Good music, nothing more? Oh wait, humans posting comments have a dick, IE they are a DICK

  • heavy pics....definitely worth a hit of LSD-25

  • I don't get why people fight on the internet. I mean its like running in the special olympics, even though you win your still retarded.

  • Jr. high and Lee, Whoo!

    JR

  • Ultimate White Funk!!!!

  • Rock from the '70s scared me for some reason as a kid! So I gravitated toward swing! Some 30 something years later, this sounds OK! LOL Maybe I just love sounds of the past! Do you know where the shot is of the pizza hut and A&W?

  • Now this is the type of Music that influenced Hip Hop.

  • @TEACHYOUTEEWHY KISS MY BUTT AND HIP HOP SUCS TOO.

  • @precisionb Don't get mad because the Hip Hop Genre brought his music back to life. It was all because of the Musical Elements that Hip Hop Producers used and that's when his Music came back on the Radio. But hey, that's your opinion you homo.

  • 14 People don't know what they mean.

  • Bring's back so many good memorie's.

  • 私の70年代前期を沸かせた、オルガン・ロッカー~リー・マイケルズ~”DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN"~ファンキーこの上なし!GOOD!

  • Whew!!! Not enough songs with a howl like that in the song. If someone could write 'Do you know what I mean' and Humble pie '30 days in the hole' into a movie script that would be THE BOMB.

  • DontOutLog.. Im Glad You Like This Music.. It Was A Much Simpler Time..I'm 47And I Truly Miss The 70s.. Brings Back Awsomes Times.......

  • I am 23 and my mom raised me on music like this and I am very grateful.

  • Yep....68 Firebird with a 389 Goat engine and stonecrusher tranny

on Highway 22 smokin in front of Tastee Freeze.....honey sittin on my consel

Do you know what I mean ?

  • @Crusin1975 Yeah, except for the tranny part. My 69 Mustang Mach 1 would have stripped your paint as I blew past you.

  • @catchrnthkudzu Yeah, and my 57 chev with the L88-427, 4 speed, 456 posi would have buried your Mach 1 as i blew past you

  • @nightmoves420 id like to see that the mach 1 was fast, a buddy of mine used to lay a hundred on the dash if you could grab it on the git it was yours.

  • @rayfromw65thst It could've been faster, some one always is. I got time slips from Seattle International Raceways showing in the 11.90's, and i was running in street trim. If the Mach1 was faster, cool, you had a strong running Ford. BTW, i only used a $20, and only one person ever got it, and that was cause he was tall and had real long arms.

  • @nightmoves420 But I must say, my 71 Plymouth 340 Wedge Duster would bury both and not even breath hard, jus sayin, LOL....................

  • @superunt43 Glad you were laughing at the end of your comment, cause i still am.

  • @nightmoves420 May I ask why? Curious this is. Curious indeed.

  • @superunt43 Why? Cause your comment was a joke. You obviously know very little about high performance cars, and nothing about what the L88- 427 motor was, or maybe your just to young. Do some research. Your Duster would be no match for my 57, and if it was it would have to be built so much it would barely be streetable, if at all, my 57 was a daily driver. And yes, i'm laughing at your comment again as i read it.

  • @nightmoves420 Wow will ignorance never cease? I am too young? Wow, read not between the lines do you? I have experimented with racing engines before you were obviously born? Go figure? L88-427 is big block boat anchor, lazy to throttle up, somewhat good on top end once it gets wound up. Actually have 1 of those somewhere in my shop I took from a guy that was in a Corvette when we ran for engines. Oh wait, the big-block is my over-sized paperweight, apologies, forgot it was there?

  • @nightmoves420 Careful I say who you joust with, video was about a great piece of music, nothing more. I took a shot at you simply because of the car reference. Still have no idea why car references are made here? I assume the old heavy 57 of yours is reference to the video? And yes I checked. You are 56? Thought you were child by the way you speak? Video is about music, nothing more.

  • @superunt43 Careful who i joust with? I sure wasn't worried about anything coming from you. The way i speak?, your the one that sounds like Dr Seuss taught you how to speak. But i will agree that this is a great piece of music. So, as far as i'm concerned, this is done, i'm sure we both have better things to do.

  • Best music era ever!

  • POLICE HAVE NO BRAINS just doughnuts and a wild arm

  • 40 YEARS YOUNG!

  • Lee's eyes in the pic at 1:35 describe the early 70's to a "T".....TOASTED CRISPY!

    Great tune.

  • Lee was great--- but if you search the web now you'll find out that it's as if he disappeared-- seriously, I can find nothing on what he's doing or if he's passed away or what he did after he was famous- like the brain police decided to erase him or something, doe's anyone out there know what became of the vital and energetic Lee Michaels???? Please let me know if you do.

  • @ambroulard - There is no "brain police." That would require the police to have brains.

  • I can't believe I'd forgotten this song as soon as it started playing I still knew all the words.

loved it then and love it now

  • song is just great!!!!!!

  • FanTAStic song!!!! Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Rock on Lee & Frosty

  • 14 people have defective ear holes that make great music sound bad.

  • My drum teacher had me play to this all the time........

  • makes you smile and dance around in your chair.

  • Takes Me Back..THANK YOU.........

  • the bobby in the video looks just like an old boyfriend bobby, and the song fits lmfao

  • "Lawd!"

Qty. 14 people have no sense of humor and probably torture their pets.

By the way, is he making the harpsicord (sp?)(that instrument that Lerch played on the Addams Family.) sound with a harpsicord or an electric piano setting?

    "Help...........me!"
