@U5011453 Not everybody in India speaks Hindi. I have many Indian friends who know zero Hindi, which is pretty common. People from different states in India typically speak in English to one another. Of course that doesn't change the fact that the English colonists forced their WASP culture onto India. But then again, the English language played a fundamental role in creating a stronger Indian national identity, before that people were more loyal to their particular regions.

First of all the word Hindi means "Indian". Its only south Indian people who dont know Hindi. People from other states use Hindi to communicate with each other except for south Indians. English didn't play any role in national identity, its actually from old times that people use Hindi to communicate with each other, there are proofs as well. Just like everybody doesnt know Hindi in India, everybody doesnt know English in India, infact millions of times less than Hindi speakers.

......and, India's national freedom revolutions were HRA, Azad Hind Fauj etc. People from all over India joined these revolutions and they used to communicate in Hindi, or Indian people in Fiji have been living there for like 300 years, they are from all parts of India, they speak their native language, plus Hindi to communicate with each other. But our govt. is so corrupt that they actually teach us false history, they are still slaves of british.

Hindi had been a compulsory language to learn in past. But some anti-hindi agiations were lead by congress party(the first govt. of india). Do some research on Sikh and Maratha empire, people from all over India joined them, what language do u think they used to communicate in?
