  • the most rappers since 197X has taken the same rhymeshemes like melle mel..he's trule the father with coke la roc&specially kool herc..a ne generation is borh with their music and ideas =)

  • Mel is the father of all MC's he was the 1st SUPER MC back in the day...

KRS retired him thou at a club in nyc...was a contest and mel was talking junk and KRS bodied him with that line "you know what you need too learn...old school artist dont always burn...ur just another rapper that had his turn" etc etc...

    legendary!!

  • I began to talk at my very first party, I felt I can make myself somebody, It was something in my heart from the very start, I can see myself at the top of the chart, rapping on the mike making cold cold cash with a jock spinning for me called D-J Flash, signing autographs for the young and old wearing big top silver and solid gold my name on the radio and in the magazine, my picture on the TV screen, Melle Mel, Superrappin 1979. Love that Part

  • he is just angry about these clowns nowadays , like me

  • The first truly legendary rapper. Melle Mel does not get anywhere near the respect or consideration he deserves these days. I grew up on the old school, and I still think he is the greatest rapper of all time.

  • Beautiful sentiment from one of the greatest. Obviously he's painting in broad strokes, when I look at the Quannum Catalogue people like Blackalicious and Lyrics Born really have grown up on vinyl, but it's not about money or fame or zingers, it's about taking humanity to the next level.

  • I liked him back in the day but he is definitely angry he did not make the money he should have!

  • @lukumi007

i think he can still good live only from 'message' record /mp3 sales

  • @zer0nable Yes, but it is true that the pioneers of rap did not cash in as they deserved, it was those that came after made the cash.

  • please dont let this turn to a conversation about who is a good rapper that is not the complaint. He is talking about the stagnant state and how the music does not progress with the artist...........Hip hop is the only music that will not grow up with it's audience. You got grown ass men making songs form the point of view of a teen.........How the hell do you teach by digressing

  • @bigpotent Word!

  • great vid

  • preach

  • what a genius, he says it all perfectly. sums up so much frustration and disappointment in the hip hop community

  • Truely a GrandMaster

  • DAMN IT" WELL SAID Grandmaster Melle Mel! =D

  • some people are interested in the music not the culture. if music can't stand on its own, it stays stagnant. thats rap. willie nelson and rolling stones still headline and draw on top because its music-driven, its not them yelling at the audience. that ra-ra stuff's for young people.

  • Ma nigguh got some arms on him!

  • Bravo Mr Melle Mel. Thats the right direction. This way up.

  • "now you just have music without art"

  • Word Up mel it's not a baby anymore. Time for these kiddies to grow up. Most of these jokers are screaming about how young they are but when the older rappers were young they were talking about real issues faced by the community. Nowadays these jokers are just talking about kiddie shit, nothing to really think about or they're on some gangsta thug shit which is in fact minority activity in the community. EVERYBODY DOES NOT EXPERIENCE THE THUG LIFE!

  • i feel every word you're saying melle mel

  • That's real talk!!

  • at 30 years, hip hop is still in its infancy by comparison, you cant compare the genre to rock, or other older genres. There are many great emcees, but when it comes to naming a 'classic' hip hop artist, at this point in time.... i'd honestly agree with Melle Mel's coments here.

Classically speaking, theres very little ever produced.

  • @IntelektAUS Tupac, Biggie, Eminem, Big L, Immortal Technique, NWA just a few

  • @IntelektAUS you misunderstand what he's saying. he's saying there have been 30 years of recorded hip hop and that's a lot, and that original hip hop artists like himself should be recognized as "classic hip hop" artists in order to elevate their status, because now you've got melle mel, a true artist and originator, in the same category as soulja boy. which doesn't make sense, and he's saying people see that as juvenile and it brings down the status of the culture to that level.

  • only few get to speak for hip hop one of them is melle mel and of course poeple like krs-1, chuck d, bam, herc and ice-t its great that hip hop didnt lose its best yet the true fathers of the culture, aint nothing changed about hip hop, the only thing changed is the way you look at it.

  • @BRINGI I agree, totally. Ice-T talking about hip hop is pure knowledge. That said I also rate people like Gil Scott Heron, his tune Message to the Messenger was perfect in regards to a comment on hiphop.

  • Subjects are one thing but when your flow is stuck in 1983, gtfoh b.

  • im feelin him he definitely has a point.
