  • is this safe to do? and if it is do i cover my short ram intake to?

  • Is this reasonably safe to do on an old vehicle (1993), or could we expect some of the casings for electrical components to be excessively degraded ?

  • Don't, nothing but harmful, people buy shiny things.

  • HellaStock :)

  • What about the computers??? my stratus has 2 computers.

  • I hate it when people like this guy gives bad advice. Do not cover anything. Just clean it and use a pressure washer if you have one. It is imposable to hurt a battery or alternator. Yes the cap will need to come off to wipe out the water. No big deal, just a few screws.

All dealerships do it this way all day long.

  • @masterautotech11 considering i have a CAI... and soon to be turbo... i think imma cover shome sh*t.. just saying

  • @masterautotech11 Or you could just cover the alt with a plastic bag before you start, because it takes all of 5 seconds. Battery though I agree, I've never bothered covering it.

  • i like this guy he keeps his cars clean and well maintenance. just like me, if you take care of your car the car will take care of you it that simple

  • Um shouldn't you cover your battery too?? Lol

  • @kornfan43107 no, its fine.

  • Great video. makes much more sense that other videos (i.e. wd40). went to Target and bought a tire brush ($5), went to Home Depot and bought Citrus Degreaser ($10). Why do it? If nothing else - increases resale value, makes it look like somebody actually cared for their vehicle. i guarantee you ALL the cars in Jay Leno's garage have CLEAN engine compartments! all race cars, all new cars, all showroom cars, most well maintained cars, etc.

  • Cover the battery next time with a bag too :)

  • I prefer not to pre-rinse as all this does is waters down the degreasers and makes it less effective, imo.

  • Driving a clean car is just nicer than driving a dirty one. It's all the subtle detailing that makes the difference. Yeah, no one else sees it, except maybe my mechanics, but I know it's clean. And it makes it easier to work on, when I get in there to do stuff. And if my car does start leaking something, it will be easier to spot.

  • @shyflirt1 u make a good point people might not know it but it feels better just to know its clean

  • @shyflirt1 very true. i cant stand when im under my hood and it is all greasy and dingy. just gives you a diffrent feeling knowing its clean

  • Aside from cosmetics which no one will see, what are the benefits to cleaning under the hood? Grease and oil coats metal acts as a rust inhibitor would it not?

  • @RoboRocker69 It makes it far easier to see any oil or coolant leaks and you dont get covered in grease and oil during regular maintainance checks or service work either.

  • @RoboRocker69

i think it does, but if you want to inhibit rust there are cans of wd40 ready to be sprayed.

  • thanks I found this super helpful. :)

I don't have a leaf blower so I'll probably use an old hairdryer set to low heat XD (might take a bit longer)

This made much more sense than some of the other videos I've seen :)

  • Great tip on using the leaf blower to help dry the engine. My neighbor was looking at me weird, but once he saw the finished product he gave me the thumbs up LOL

  • What about your battery? DIdn't need covering up?

  • pos car haha

  • Great how-to video! For narrow places, I find buying a toilet brush at the dollar store and using it to get into those places works great!
