PLEASE READ AND LIKE SO PEOPLE CAN SEE THIS!!!Just to let you know and everyone know. My name is michael Peterson and Ive had this disorder since I was 4. I am now 19 and just beat this disorder. I started playing around with them when i was young and it became a habit. started with eyebrows, and then stoped and started with my eyelashes instead. ever since childhood I have had this problem and I would love to help fellow friends withthis disoreder. Message me please becuase reallywant tohelp!
I wanted to also share with you all. There is video I found on youtube here. Look it up. If anyone can ever find out the name of the blonde hair lady who does the hair extentions let me know!
I have trich. I pull from my scalp and have been since elementary school. I am now 27 yrs old. For all you Trichters I urge you to join me and tons of others on the trich website. Go to this site:
Trich.org then click treatment and resourses then click Email support groups. Then click the group that fits best for you. I am under adult hair pullers.
I've had trich for about 8 years now (since the start of high school) and I can tell everyone right now that this shit is triggered by stress, PTSD and depression. Seriously. I've had a hypnotist and two separate doctors tell me this. And while it's triggered by this, it later develops into a coping mechanism which becomes an addiction that lasts even after the stress, etc has gone away. It's almost a bit like smoking, only we're not giving ourselves lung cancer.
To many people, this disease may appear as some type of self mutilation, but, from the research that I have been reading in Pubmed, this appears to be an autoimmune disease, it causes an irritation at the follicle. One of the researchers in a study suggested that the action of pulling the hair is like a sneeze, an automatic response. You may of course get depressed as result of the autoimmune disease, but doesn't mean this is a mental illness. So you are not insane.
I've suffered with this for 20yrs, I never told anyone. I had her watch this video today with me and we both cried, can't believe I waited so long to be honest and seek help.
I can relate to the intense compulsion, although I don't have tric. I am absolutely compelled to dig at my pimples. It's gross and it scars, but I can't stop!
@mollymutant You should read something about dermatillomania. I found out a short time that this disease exists, since I wantet to find out what's wrong with me
I know this can't be helped I guess but you guess pull out hair some people wished they had been blessed with like my sister she is in her 20's and her hair is so thin. Why don't you grow some leg hair and pull those out or anywhere but your head and face or better yet try to seek help.
I have had trich since I was approximately 12 years old. I am 52, still pulling, from my scalp. been wearing wigs since junior high school, which was pure hell. I have yet to find a way to stop. been to a few therapists, tried numerous cognitive behaviour therapies, medications, etc. Now i shave my head every time I start doing damage. So i can go for months without pulling but still end up doing it again. any suggestions??
@emernin8 i am 12 two and i am stoping throghw will power and the temptation everytime you think of pulling you hair out think of something else and then you wont pull your hair out
@demon95951 its not always the case dear. a lot of people try to think of something else. that's actually often the very first step they take and never works
@Risa1234561 Well it kinda starts out as a drug addiction I have no idea how else to explain it. You try it once (or do it accidently) and it feels good. When people are stressed they go and try get a higher high right? Well when people with trich are stressed they pull for multiple hours. It's considered a disease/disorder but I personally think it's hereditary. My dad had it for a couple years in his 20's but it when away but he now picks his skin. they're extremely similar.
@Lynnsfavoritemusic It may sound odd but when I pull a hair it feels oddly good. It's a good feeling and sometimes I want that feeling and just pull once just to do it once then stop instead of accidently doing so. I've gotten used to it. My hands always go to my hair it's sad. :( I'm trying really hard to stop but I get weird feelings in my scalp and the only way they go away is by pulling. so yeah you can look it up on google and find more info. trich.org is amazing too.
@Risa1234561 yes, a disease. Where we pull out our here. Some of us when we are stressed, some of us just whenever. But it is something we are not in control of. We do not do it by choice. It is a compulsion

@pinky052759 Make your scalp irritated, it will hurt INSANELY to pull your hair, which might help to stop such a habit.
