Kurt: just a suggestion. I know somebody with all of the same interests as you. He has made a huge fortune from blowing up rock. Sometimes he takes me to work and it is fascinating. And I am not even that into geology. It is a very diverse occupation. Building sites, quarries and what not. We also go star gazing with his massivly expensive telescopes which he can afford because he owns the blowy-up company. Happy job hunting!

I know you've done a map render, but would you consider installing the program Cartograph?

BEFORE YOU DO IT MAKE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR WORLD... I wouldn't want to be responsible for the unlikely corruption of your world due to third-party programs

So yeah anyway basically it shows the worls like the in-game maps do, and only shows the chunks that you've rendered by walking in those directions. Your map would probably look like a squiggly line :)

I totally get your admiration for craftsmen. My uncle is a carpenter and I've seen him work a few times. It's mind blowing how fast he can build something. Half of my parent's house was furnished by my uncle. Lamps, tables clocks, mirrors, etc. He can build anything.

I *think* that direction you travel shouldn't really matter. The Farlands generate (from my understanding) when too many chunks have been loaded into memory which then causes the terrain generation to bug out and override chunks. So, going a little off course wouldn't matter as long as you continue to walk.

I looks like Notch's blog does mention that terrain generation writes over chunks the further you travel from the center of the map - I thought that only applied to the 'physics' of Minecraft. Regardless, going south for a few minutes shouldn't matter too much as long as time isn't wasted by backtracking.

Work at gamestop or something you enjoy that pays enough for you to be fine, and maybe see what qualifications you need to do something that you actually enjoy. If you are artistic and know a lot about space, maybe you could get into game design and create space environments for sci-fi games. Or become a writer for a sci-fi game. Kurt you should learn to be a mechanic even iv you dont plan make a career of it because if you use vehicle repair manuals (found in nearly all auto part stores) you can save thousands of dollars by doing small repairs your self. you could save enough so that your next vehicle could be nearly half paid off before you leave the dealer. If you are planning to play TF2 for the 1st time soon, I recomend you pick up either the Medic or the Engi. Thats because you will let the others and the sentry guns do the killing for you, while you try to get familiarized with the map and how your teammates play the other classes, so you learn faster.

@EJPBDK Engie is my class de choix (probably-butchered French there, but the meaning comes through, I think). Good to keep out of the action, play a support role (Need a dispenser here! Poot dispenser here!), and observe playstyles to learn for when/if you branch out to a new class. Good fun, esp. Sentry-ing all around key areas and watching REDs or BLUs (depending on which team you're on, the ones that aren't your team) blunder right into your traps.

Have you considered studying astronomy?

I took my time after high school derping around in community college and trying lots of different things. It's been long enough that I should have a degree and I have nothing but a lot of credits is various things. I eventually decided that I really did love math and space enough to study astronomy (and actually live out a childhood dream). It takes a lot of math, and like Geology it takes a masters to do anything, but I know you could do it! :D
