  • yeah i was there last year. im in the north central orchestra. we played this the year before this state competition and its really difficult. you guys did a great job.

  • This high school orchestra is better than a number of city/countywide youth orchestras. Sure there were a couple sections where the brass fell a little short. However let's remember this is a high school orchestra. Overall my expectations were far exceeded by this performance. BRAVO!!!

  • yes we also have to remember as musicians we have to strive to sound more mature than we are. we're only in high school just doesn't cut it..... maybe that's just me though. this is a mature piece of music and you have to step up to play it. dvorak didn't make his music in two different levels, high school and pro, just one ,,,pro so that means we have to put on our big boy pants and play the big boy music as written.

  • yeah we played this too,our full orchestra and got 6th in the state.(texas that is) that flute trade off was not very good.and the trumpets are not together... 3:00 to the end is my fav. part hands down and at 4 i just can't take it... so amazing! wow at 10:03 that's really fast it's kinda rushed. jesus the horns....& 7:04 the brass let me down and it's wayyyy to fast. wow what a let down...... but your strings did a very good job. lucky for them

  • YEAH STRINGS.

This year for state qualifier, our sheet said, "Winds, do you know how privileged you are to play for a string section this good? We got 6th this year. And while I'm listening to this Dvorak , I'm not surprised we got 8th...go and listen to this year's Egmont and tell what you think.

  • very impressive for a high school orchestra. kudos

  • Dvorak does indeed rule, but not as much as Viola players do!

  • Haha, right on. I hope to be a professional violist one day; not soloist, since there aren't nearly as many solo pieces as there are for violins, but orchestral. Hopefully the Milwaukee Symphony. Check my favorites and you'll know how much I love classical music.

  • Great performance! I did this with NYC All City orchestra in 1980 at Lincoln Center and u r right ginny...Dvorak rocks with both the first and seconds..... This piece does justice to the cellos and trombones!

  • Dvorak rocks. And so do Second violins.

    ;)(paige)

  • This song is so cool I can't wait to play it!

  • This was such an amazing piece to play.

(this is the principal chair tuba) hehe

  • You were pretty good for a high school orchestra. You should hear it played professionally.

  • Seriously Awesome..

  • thank you! but can you believe we got last place? :(

  • nahh.. not last place you silly goose ;)

    we got PARTICIPATION.. haha

  • The reason why you placed Participation was because of the rather wide and erratic changes in your tempo. Granted, that's nothing to do with the orchestra itself; moreso it deals with the conductor. And then, to me, the interpretation of the entire piece was not the best either. It was too fast in places, never slow enough in others, and the dymanic contrast was so little for what Dvorak's writing calls for, that had I been grading, I would have also given a rather low score. It IS a GREAT Piece

  • last place? you made it to state! that means you're in the top 8 :)
