Very nice spikes, neat designs that don't get in the way of efficiency. I would throw one of those knives all the time. You seem to be a very witty person, a wordsmith as well as a blacksmith. So you're also a Systema practitioner?
As usual, awesome stuff! You're spikes are just amazing looking, I can only imagine that they throw as well as they look.. I saw that you're a member of at Blade Thrower as well, I just joined recently...
@paramedia161 thanks! i am glad you like them, though many were purely experimental. i am down to two shapes now that seem to work best. as to spike throwers group -- i haven't checked them out in a while. seems like not a whole lot is happening there...
@666monsterman thank you for your kind words -- i do appreciate them. i think smithing is the greatest thing in the world, apart from a BLT, with the bacon crispy and the tomatoes nice and perky, i just love it. in answering your query, the accent is mine, just like the throwing knives are.
sorry. couldn't resist that one. it's like when people ask me where i came from, to which i usually answer "from my mommy; how did it work with you?" ok, yes, i admit, i AM a smartass...
@666monsterman thanks! i do enjoy exchanges with people who have a sense of humor. so many folks seem to have had theirs surgically removed. you crack a joke and they just get bent out of shape like a cheap chinese scooter hitting a brick on the road. so, thanks again!
That is great. i wish that i could make throwing spikes and knives as well as throwing stars but i live in the city and i dont have access to a forge or an anvil.
@sniper11235 thanks! however, i also live i a city. if you want to learn forging, it is quite possible -- i bet there are blacksmiths in your area who would be willing to teach. the national organization, ABANA, has chapters in every state, and they always have conferences and forge-ins with hands-on instructions.
See if a knife is made the same exact size as a spike it will use less metal and take up less space and when it stabs into something a knife shape slides though easier. try to make a flat spike the same length and thickness when laying down as one of your spikes.. it will be the knife = to your spikes.. when you said they bounce alot more and make noise.. that is because even know the handles on your knifes are the same as the stakes the blade is not so its like throwing a fat spike..nice vid :)
it is true that a spike is heavier than a knife of the same length; however, i find this an advantage in throwing, especially at longer distances; a spike goes in quite deeply as it is, whereas a thinner knife blade often goes in so deeply it is hard to pull out. also, knife blades are much more liable to damage. as to the noise -- most throwing knives are of the once-piece construction, to reduce damage under use, so without any dampening effects of a wood or plastic handle, they are LOUD.
Yah... how about a full steel throwing axe with a pointed handle end... you can throw it blindfolded as hard as you can randomly and it wil stick into something :D sept for thick metal, stone or spent lol do you like longer spikes? i find 3 foot duel pointed spikes with no handle made out and painted black all sept for the tips vary sleek and fun to throw because its slow spin...
Do you sell them? oh and are you going to have any videos in the future on how you make one from beginning to end? I am kind of interested in trying to make some myself. well in the future :D
thank you. i don't sell the shuriken yet, but plan to do so in very near future. and i will certainly post a video of the making process, from raw material to the finished product, culminating in the actual throw. you should definitely look into learning some blacksmithing, as there is almost no limit than what you can make for yourself out of metal.
I have watched your other videos, but I am wondering if you actually balance the throwing spikes at a certain point or if you simply pick them up and throw them?
there a couple of different methods to throw a knife in the no-spin mode. some methods require finding the balance point, and some don't. all my throwing spikes are handle-heavy.
OOOOOOHHHHH!!!! Very Very Very Very Very BAD ASS MAN, VERY VERY COOL. I especially loved those throwing knives, they kind of had a broad head look like a broad head arrow point. Very Very Very freakin' cool Man. Thank you for sharing these with Me (and Us). Yes, Waaay off in the future I would love to have a forge. I love your work. Take care Man and KICK ASS, KICK ASS, KICK ASS!!! We look forward to more of your videos. Take care.
