  • awesome find... thanks for posting.

  • So they never actually covered this song on an album? too bad mann

  • turtles reprise

  • I knew if I lived long enough I'd get to see B. Cummings clean-shaven. I can die now, a satisfied man. Thank you :)

  • @ericynot He pretty well is through to bout '72 or so.

  • From the CBC, right?

  • @canadaboy1973

From the Let's Go tv show, yes. They performed hits of the day on their weekly show.

  • @YamiSoYummy are , my friend.

  • what year is that?

  • Wow! What a classic.

  • wow! love burton...

    bachman!

  • wow! love burton...

  • Hate to break this to you all but Im the drummer of the Turtles and I just finished putting my foot through some of my gear and needed a replacement and the Guess Who was kind enough to lend me theirs.....

just messing with ya all......good vid.

  • Seeing Burton Cummings without a mustache is like seeing Kiss without makeup, or the Lone Ranger without a mask.

  • @detoth67 lol, too true!!!

  • @YamiSoYummy These songs still are beautiful--and always will be :-)

  • Burton Cummings' supple voice could tackle any material with gusto!

  • Thanks for taking the time to upload this video. We'll take any quality that survived that era.

  • Considering how CBC destroyed things - it's lucky that THIS exists at all in any form. Between that and and the sad state of the small Canadian record labels from the 60s & 70s, many great archival tapes have just gone out in the trash or are sitting in someone's basement rotting because the owner wants a fortune to have them released.

  • @MrStereo10 Exactly--and the end result is that the owner ends up getting NO money from them! Money makes people do weird things sometimes.

  • The turtles sing this song much better! greeting from Perù!

  • Burton Cummings can sing anything he wants with gusto.

This is from a weekly tv show where the Guess Who would cover the current hits.

  • I wonder if there are any videos of Burton Cummmings with shorter hair.

  • Great cover, love Burt and the boys

  • what year was this?

  • Great video ....Thanks for posting this......

  • 1968, "Let's Go", and a fair job.

  • What band do you play in?

  • Burton looks about 18 here

  • i thought the Turtles did this song

  • the turtles did record this song bitterchew.

  • yeah, I thought it was a Turtles song first

  • it is, the Guess Who just covered it.

  • oh, I see.

  • Was the show Let's Go out of Canada?

  • yep.

  • @johnny10301968 Yes, and the Guess Who were sort of the house band.

  • I'm willing to bet its 65' or 66'

  • So what year is this from? Anybody know?

What an amazing clip... never knew the Guess Who covered this.

So many questions... how long had Burton Cummings been with the band? What TV show is this from? Was this put out as a single?

  • Maybe I can shed some light.

I think Burton had been in the band at least a year or two by this time. The show was called Let's Go, and this was a one-off cover version of the Turtles single.

  • Thanks for the info.

Burt really has the perfect voice for this song. He was/is one of the most incredible vocalists in rock music history.

  • 1968-autumn

  • A very nice rendition, but the A/V transfer could use some help.

  • The transfer is only as good as the source it was taken from....

If anyone has a better copy, please post it..:)

  • Wasn't sure why, but I'm grateful to just see it. Didn't mean to dis.

  • They covered a Turtles song?

  • I would not give a damn about The Guess Who if they had kept doing candy assed bullshit like this. Only when the TGW boys grew their hair long, started getting loaded, and wrote angry screeds like No Time, American Woman, and Share the Land did they warrant any recognition.

  • gotta start somewhere

  • I did not know this was the Guess Who until now. I taped this from an oldies station called "Magic 104" in 1986.

  • i think the original is of THE TURTLES

  • After I read yor reply I saw searched for the version that the Turtles here on You Tube and it is here too.

  • yes i think so

  • Yeah this song was written by Gary Bonner and Alan Gordon and made popular by the Turtles. It's the same guys who wrote "Happy Together"

  • thx for the information. i love it, because i will know everything:))

  • I don't mean to sound like one of those know-it-all people, but the title of this song is "She'd Rather Be with Me," not "Some Girls."

  • My Bad..Thanks

  • it's rare that i have to turn the volume down cause most of the good song's are so poor quaility....thx a lot for the nice clear tone here...for this great old rockin tune.

  • How deceptive. I'll bet alot of people are clicking on this thinking they are going to hear the Guess Who performing a late 70s Rolling Stones song.

  • Thanks for sharing this!!! Please feel free to send us any links and we will post them on the Official Page.

  • Thanks so much for posting - these clips are amazing! Pity that they appear to be miming to a pre-recorded track(check out drummer Garry Petersen at 1:40 - that ride cymbal sounds an awful lot like a cowbell!), but still a treat to see. Cheers!!

  • yes that's what they did for these shows was pre-record the backing tracks and mime to them. i think it depended on the performance whether the vocal was completely live or not.

  • Sweet!!!:D

  • Guess Who and the Turtles

    Both with great vocal harmonies

  • This song is done by the Turtles they're just covering it. The Guess Who = One of the best Canadian bands

  • .....xox....

  • Gotta get my dancing shoes on!!!!!!!!yeah, baby!!

  • Love both versions, this and the turtles'!!!!

  • The song's title is actually "She'd Rather be with Me," a cover of the Turtles song from 1967.

  • wow...hmmm,...damn ...now i'm confused

  • Silly me cause all this time I thought the song was by the Turtles.

  • great song, wat a great Canadian band...

  • awesome find! one of my my favorite Turtles songs done by my favorite Canadian group!

  • Enjoyed the clip. I remember watching these guys after school on Thursday's on the CBC before they made it big. The CBC was the only TV station we had back then in the days before cable. There were shows from Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax Monday to Friday at 5:30 for about 4-5 years. Anne Murray was on the Halifax show and I believe Alex Trebek hosted the Toronto edition. Good stuff.

  • By the way, Chad Allan hosted the shows from Winnipeg. Chad recorded "Shakin' All Over", a monster song from the mid 60's
