  • so different from norway

  • This is a true count down, read bible revelation.

  • pulse of the world

  • awesome theme tune!

  • I only watch BBC News for the countdown..

  • @jakthemak not just news but all of the countdowns

  • BBC has the best countdown music for news in the world!

  • The Dry intellect of the British...ho hum....

  • ahhhhhh!............ refreshing!

  • just hearing the BBC news theme makes me proud to be British. and I'm not actually British (but that's besides the point).

  • its like watie 4 some thing to go off :s

  • nice theme

  • when the BBC news starts I always do a little rave dance :-)

  • TRANCE!!!

  • FANTASTIC¡¡¡¡¡¡ CONGRATULATIONS¡¡¡

  • I miss this!

  • Some things just have an emotional attachment deep in the brain. Like a certain colour or sound. I travel around the world, and one of the things that is ubiquitous is the Beeb. In hotels and pubs, over the background noises and babblegab, hearing the BBC World countdown always reminds me of the reach and influence Britain still has around the globe.

  • I wish we had a countdown to news broadcasts and America. Then, I would actually watch them.

  • ppl must of got bored through this on their tellys lol

  • i stumbled on this being stoned... its awesome OoO

  • I feel so alive with this opening! It's like all of my cells are awaking for something to happen, and its the NEWS! LOL

  • I only get to see (here in Chile) BBC World News... and is not that cool, as is almost everytime talking about India... as if there were no other countries :(

It is also where I practice some English... since CNN is always talking about dead marines and stuff...

  • There's something that I just find so comforting about this theme.

  • @petie71: me too.. :)

  • I don't understand, why need a countdown.

  • @rusty5707 To signify to viewers that a programme is about to start on the hour.

  • @rusty5707 I may be misremembering this, but I believe it's because some of the outlets that air BBC World programming put advertising in this spot. The countdown is thus there so that viewers in areas that DON'T get commercials won't see a blank screen for 60 seconds at the top of the hour. That's called "dead air," and it's the one thing TV producers never ever want to have happen, because it makes people think there's something wrong with the station and then they switch channels.

  • @rusty5707 all 24 hour news chanels neaded a countdown because to get presenters to have there break

  • @lancededcena123 and that is why there is no paid advertising

  • great thank you

  • great..

  • outstanding

  • talkin' about first.... this was the first YouTube video i tagged as my "favorite" when I created my YouTube account more than 3 years ago.. this is the first countdown version I watched in BBC when we first subscribe in our local cable channel. i'm glad it's still here, beeping in my ears.. one of the best BBC theme ever. ;)

  • this music must be added to nowedays bbc news ! Awesome music

  • rad!

  • I LOVE this! I would seriously wait for the news to come on, JUST to watch this.

    *pulls out a glowstick*

  • LOL! I'm so glad someone else has admitted this :p

  • Same here!

  • one word for it lol... epic!

  • BBC beeps are the best. Whichever one you watch on youtube is still the same. By the way people which is better BBC or ITV because BBC has already got one vote.

  • man... bill bailey was actually right... it is like an apocalyptic rave...

  • totally! :)

  • I loved watching their i.d.s / opens / and countdowns when I lived in Europe. They all kind of seem to foreshadow the coming of the one world order

  • the bbc told lies during legal process

    indictment t2000997-1....

    but this music

    it does have style.

  • the BBC are unbiased on all worldwide and domestic news throughout, and that in simple terms is why they reign supreme!

  • I really don't understand why I find this so entertaining. But it is.

  • @TheRedHeadDuo i kno EXACTLY how you feel!!!!

  • @TheRedHeadDuo It's because you can Rave to the News!!!! :-D

  • I am from Lithuania. And BBC is my TV sets number one channel. Countdown rocks! But i miss one thing, the British voice. Smthing of a voice like it were from those old lamp radios, you know, back in coldwar era ... when an elderly gentelman in nice english accent used to say: "this is BBC". LoL, and i am only 24. Classic geting back :). My next channel thou will be euronews when i get it on cabel.

CNN is good as well, but FOOX. FOX retarded, its not news, its damn reality show there on FOX.

  • I always listen to BBC NEWS

  • BBC Owns All other news channels thats all i gotta say, i wont go too detail in that.

  • i'm from california, usa. i like bbc's themes with the countdown, the music, the graphics and everything. i don't actually watch bbc news tho, i'm more of a cnn guy.

  • bbc has the best theme, the best coverage, the best viewpoint on things and the best title graphics. by the way im from britain! fox news sucks, sky news sucks, cnn sucks and dont get me started on tht itv news at ten crap...

  • @LexicaOne

i am from america and i agree. i only watch bbc news america

  • @kurdo11000, then again, outdoing the mainstream American news media isn't much of an accomplishment. But I like the BBC best myself. I read the economist as well for the same reason.. It kicks the shit out of time, newsweek, and the wsj.

  • @ananiasacts WSJ has respectable news coverage (not so much its editorial page). But BBC and Economist absolutely outdo just about everything else.

  • @democrat10, I actually have online access to the journal but I'm going to cancel it this year because I find myself using it less and less. I see a lot less references to articles in the WSJ on the web as well.

  • @LexicaOne

    CNN is pretty good...

  • @LexicaOne Completely agree, and I'm a straight American. I really like BBC better than any other news, but in America it's not necessarily mainstream, so I stick with NBC and FOX.

  • I'm from Britain! It's really cool to hear that guys from other countries like the theme tune as much as we do lol :)

    Catchy!

  • Yes indeed .. no one can beat the BBC countdowns !! ahh am getting nostalgic now !

  • God Save The Queen, and the God Bless the BBC.

By the way, im from The Southern part of America, and no im not a redneck.

  • I'm in Australia. BBC is the only news I trust, none of the other capitalist, sensationalist rubbish

  • The BBC is the best news channel by a long long long way! CNN, Sky and Fox are political, sexed up with tabloid stuff or patronising.

  • Do not believe in the others THIS IS THE BBC...AND NOW THE WEATHER!

  • I love the BBC, I'm American. It's so refreshing to have a world view of things as opposed to a soley western.

  • I love BBC, I'm brazilian!

  • its a fantastic theme, i just love it and turn it and start jamming just before the news!!

  • BBC has the best coverage

  • Wow that's so cool lol!

  • i love BBC i am indian

  • It's quuite embarrassing. Whenever the BBC countdown was on, I'd turn up the volume!! lol. As if it were some hit song or something! I felt like such a geek :P

  • Its a catchy countdown :P

  • still the best among the rest! rock on BBC! =)

  • Always putting news first....! ;-)

  • Wow, yt9891. I thought RTE was supposed to be an irish BBC, and i thought that Tv 3 was supposed to be the whore of foriegn programming. But then again I'm a Yankee going off what i've read online. At least you've guys have strong public broadcasters to counter corporate run models, unlike the US.

  • BBC programmes are better than RTE's

  • RTE (radio teilifis eireann) earn money from ads and tv licences and buy most programmes from other stations. The bbc have no ads and produce home grown dramas and documentaries how can theydo it. Im irish and i have to say most of of programmes are crap

  • Watching BBC World countdown always reminds me of home when abroad. Best news service out there..

  • Catchy. Sounds like a digital message of sorts. Thank's for the video.

  • bbc stands for british broadcasting company

and this music is saying that

  • Actually it's 'British Broadcasting Corporation'

  • Pwned.

  • nice countdown.. i have stored it in my W550i mobile.

  • Lol nice combination, even the colours match if you have the orange case on ;)

  • yeah its just news.. ITS IMPORTANT.. so why do they drown it out, when they attempt at trying to broadcast a service with this excellent music bed? dergh is it me?

  • ah its no money or the government not thinking its important any longer for us. forgive me.. the penny has dropped. I know lets rely on quality programming from Bristol... no hang on isnt that for the chop also? time for a new DG maybe? Sir Ian Blair is getting away with it so why not everyone else?

  • its cool and dinamical!!!!!!!!!yehaa to bbc news

    buuuu to cnn!!!!!!

  • Carm down guys its just the news!

  • yes absolutely excellent, very special and incredible!!!...

  • I dont think this is from 2001, rather from 2002 or later. From 1999 they used a 10 second countdown, followed by the BBC World Ident to introduce the news, they later replaced it when BBC World refreshed its music in 2002. ;)

  • Hey BBC, London Tonight took your countdown music but never broadcasted.

  • it's the better countdown in the world !!!

  • check my channel for a 10 minutes remix

  • this is not good, not best.......but BESTESSSSSSSST!!!

haha I love it from the btm of my heart...always! Thanks

  • very special.

  • I know the BBC pips are traditionally from 4 seconds, but I thought they were extended to eight seconds?

  • The proper BBC pips that they still use on Radio 4 (I think) is actually the Greenwich Time Signal, a kind of international time standard. 59 pips, and then a long pip on the minute.

  • Re: Mattymaxinc

No, they were extended to 9 sexonds..

  • Whoi! i love dis countdown! i thought i will never see it again! Last time i saw it was in 2003. thanks for the upload. If anyone knows the name and artist of this song please reply! Laterz :)

  • The music, and infact all BBC News music from 1999 to date is/was composed by David Lowe (davidlowe dot co dot uk)

  • Just brilliant...so creative.

  • I think this is the best theme BBC World has ever had. I never warmed to the new one.

  • One more thing. Noiporeon or anyone here, By chance if u remember before the BBC World Countdown, there was the lil 3 second breakfiller eg " World Business Report, in 30 Minutes on BBC World" then u will see the BBC Logo and then the countdown as u will see it on the video here. Do u have that piece of music or anyone here for that matter? Thanks!

  • Look at that! i thought i will never hear the music and countdown for this again! Last time i saw this was around Sept 2003. Thanks for posting it up. Music is very eerie. Laterz!

  • Should have this one instead of the current BBC News 24 one.

  • This is cooler than the countdown on BBC news 24 music and graphics.

  • There a few extra drum beats at '29', '24', '20', '12', '08' & '04' than the one I have. Whats that about?

  • i dunno but its cooler than BBC news 24

  • I suppose it's like with the newest countdown: same theme but several versions with minor differences. I mean, I get BBC World, and I thought their most recent countdown was the same worldwide outside the UK, but I see that there are at least three versions out there. Anyway, I'm so glad to get this old one!

  • Yes Crusader92 i agree with u, there are like 3-4 versions out there. I get BBC WORLD alone myself and i live right next door, Trinidad & Tobago. I think since there are cable providers in different areas and we are in the Latin americas, we get the same thing. This old one rocks big time. Glad to find it. Laterz.

  • Thanks for the message, thevillageram. Yeah, I suppose we get the same thing, which in my opinion is the best of today's versions.

  • I liked the BBC World loop music =P

  • here we go x 5 the party just got hotter, turn it up Mr. DJ!!!

  • wow!! 57 seconds! never seen before!

  • very. also, the full one is 90 seconds

  • I've just worked out that if I watch this video end to end 1440 times, it'll be this time tomorrow. Brilliant! Go and look at my vids instead, they're far more ridiculous..

  • lol hagumogu!!! At the top of the hour BBC News has a countdown to fill in the gap, the countdown time varies depends on how many seconds to the top of the hour it is.

  • wow!

Such a system is not in NHK.

    great hahaha

  • what's countdown??

    New year??

  • wow!

Such a system is not in NHK.

    great hahaha

  • Just goes to show that while the 70's and 80's were the lost years of fashion the noughties have produced some of the worst BBC News idents for a long time. If they were to bring back an old classic like this countdown it would be an improvement. Shame!

  • Thanks for posting this.

I thought I would NEVER see this again

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FINALY 60 Second of the 2002 COUNTDOWN!
