I personally don't like matching my clothes and my eyeshadow, I find it looks overkill, like I tried too hard. What I prefer to do is have similar eyeshadow and nail polish, so if I have green nails I'll go with green eyes but anyway I think you have to go with what works with your eye color, your skin tone AND the color of your hair is quite important too. I think using blue eye shadow when you have blue eyes kinda defeats the purpose but that's just me.
