The new ones effin suck. Sorry but it's true. I remember a few years back seeing the good old 80s RB in stores--dolls, books, stickers. I bought a few. I wish I hadn't donated the RB doll to a garage sale but I did get some new RB books on amazon with the 80's RB and they are WONDERFUL. So WHAT is wrong with the 80's RB??? We all love her!!! And why change Twink to Twinkle??

NOOOOOOO!!! I hated the new RB in 1997 and i hate the new one now. Sorry but she looks like hell. It is very inappropriate. What has happened to my sweet beautiful innocent character I grew up with? WTH do they have to change everything? She's RAINBOW, not a friggin' Barbie, for cryin' out loud!

WQhy is it Tickled Pink and Moonglow for Rainbows friends anyway? They both showed up for like a couple of episodes and a movie (Moonglow did anyway) and that is it, why the hell did they pick the more obscure 'kids' to be in this? Why not Cannery or Patty O Green or something? At least they have been in 98% of the original series.

@LaPerleDOr So if eyes are TINY and not large that automatically makes them not animuish? Did you look at the styling of the classic cartoon? Even though the eyes where tiny they reminded me more of the classic animu from the 80's. =w= Oh well, to each his own, but I still think this new style isn't animu, looks way too western.

Thanks for the updates! I really do appreciate them. I don't think this redesign is nearly as bad as it could have been. Sure, she looks older, but they've shown from the recent animations that she IS older and left and returned to Rainbowland. I think it opens up new possibilities. Can't say I liked the animation. First time I saw it, I thought it was fan-made and not bad for fan-made animation. Then I learned it wasn't and was rather horrified. I might go sticker-hunting today! :)

Has anyone experienced the terrible animation, voice acting, and story on the hallmark site? It's disturbing when compared to the original rainbow brite cartoon.

If I wanted bratz dolls, I'd buy bratz dolls.

It may have been cute if they stylized it more like power puff and less like barbie.

I liked Rainbow Brite when I was a 6 year old. I could relate to the characters because they looked about my age. These characters look like they're 13. Creepy.

Did you know Rainbow Brite was redesigned once before? Yep, back in 1997. I have information on my site. The "Color Kids" where the "Color Crew" and it was...weird looking. If you go to the site click the link for Wiki*Brite. It will have pictures there.

Oh! I definitely remember 1997 version and it was no better then this one. Rainbow Brite in the 80's generated a billion dollars in merchandising for one particular reason.

It was creative and the formula worked. If something isn't broke, don't fix it.

This version is definitely a reflection of the ego driven, fame obsessed, Gossip Girl, let it all hang out generation. Just vapid.

No it really hasn't made my day a little brighter! I loved this show. I miss the days when I was younger and shows were wholesome, the Olsen twins were adorable little girls, rainbow brite had a brain and barbie's belt buck didn't say enter like the bratz doll does. Rainbow Brite now looks like everyother animated cartoon.

I think that more than refreshing & altering the designs it would have been nice if there were an anime version done similar to what they did with the Power puff girls & the Stitch series. They would probably have to change the story a little and make the characters a bit older, but Rainbow Brite is very much a magical girl kind of series and I think they'd do a great job

But I still agree that the marketers are the stooping to the lowest denominator.

I think executives who work in entertainment should be required to take some art appreciation courses before being allowed in certain fields.

As a child, Rainbow Brite inspired me to become an artist. These character designs look as though they were rendered by someone with mediocre creative capabilities.

They're so derivative.

I just hated it. Sorry - I really really hate some of these modern updates on my childhood classics (don't get me started on Care Bears). Why does Rainbow have to look like some pre-teen barbie?

NOO!! WHY must they take the innocent and pure and tun it into something cliche and unreal?! That is NOT Moonglo, Nite Sprite, Tickled Pink, or Sunriser! Monglo is NOT gothic, Tickled Pink does NOT control the day colors/sun or whatever, and Twink's name is NOT 'Twinkle'! When will they ever learn?!

Oy... Sorry. I had my meltdown. It's just...so MANY of my favorite childhood shows are being modernized, and I HATE it... *broods*

There is always some fear of "change" especialy when it's something you love so dearly as a child, but I don't consider this my "Rainbow". She is the Rainbow of this generation. I hope the children today like her.

Well, the 'relaunch' of 2004 showed that a change needed to be made, because those products didn't sell. But, even when MLP got it's relaunch and redesign, the retro was released as well. I hope they will do as much for Rainbow Brite. I will try to let you all know more as I find out. Please check my updates social sites for more information as it's discovered.

The DVD's were all the "retro" show, My Little Pony Tales. And you can find stickers and clothing with the original "retro" print of "Cotton Candy" on them. :)

As many times as I have seen these new desgins I still perfer the "old skoll" Rainbow however.

I think that Rena was refering to the lack of a US DVD release. >_> Importing is a bit too pricy for me anyways.

Yes, there is a lot of discussion about the "new" compared to the old. I enjoy archiving the old so that in case the "new" fans want to know who she really was they can find out.

And yes, the import fees can be much, but not as much as what they charge for a whole season of any modern TVshow. Often those go for $60 a season, and you get 13 episodes in some of them. But it's all about what you want to spend, and when. I respect that. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks, as do I. They kept them very much like the originals so if you see them they are recognizable as the ones from the 80's only we get about 2 characters that never had much of a history "Moonglow, and Tickled Pink". Looking forward to that!

The DVD's were already released in the UK, Australia, Italy, and Germany. If your PC drive has a universal DVD drive then you can watch them that way. The German release includes BOTH English and German language tracks. Though I suspect an ALL NEW show will be coming out of these designs (Re: Holly Hobbie, Strawberry Shortcake, Polly Pocket, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Etc)
