  • that set is pretty sick, not as cool as his 9 piece though

  • Fuck, this is a heavy version. They've SO still got the energy. Can't wait to see them in Warsaw.

  • yeah, even if they did mess up, that solo completely makes up for it

  • messed up @ 4:32 ????

  • sounds like it, but eh, what the heck, Metallica is awesome, they're human they can mess up at times.....they arent perfect...but yeah...sounds like a mess up..oh well >.> overall they did a fantabulous job.......i saw them live....=) it was the best thing that ever happened to me =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =)

  • This is a fucking good performance

  • YES LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • wow...first comment for months XDD

and the guy that said kirk mistake, u can clearly hear that that was the sound, if it was him, you'd here like some kind of guitar scratch or something, but the sound on the guitar comepletely went out on that part, so i think that it was the amps or somethin.

    .

    xD

  • that is not kirk failure it´s more a sound failure something went shit with the system...

you can hear it he plays it just the sound is gone for some reason...

  • a mistake of kirk at 1:29

  • theyre the same people they were in the 80's....except they dont do hella cocaine and theyre not drunk 24/7, they fuck up sometimes bigdeal

  • I think it sounded good but it always baffles me how Hetfield never sings with that agression that he had on their first 5 albums.

  • Aging?

  • yeh, unfortunately he did his vocal chords damage during the black album and has never quite been the same since! but in a way it's good. brought a whole new image to the band

  • That "agression" is what ruined his voice.idont get why people dont get that.

  • RIOTandDontYouFakeIt: Bullshit that aggression ruined his voice. Think of the dozens of metal bands that have older singers that are doing just fine. i.e. I just saw Dio and Rob Halford this summer and they didn't have any trouble.

  • akathasamurai:Maybe because they have a different technique.James said himself all he did was scream. You try screaming your head off for hours and years and youll see your voice will get fucked.Let any professional singer hear James vocals from KEA to Justice and tell them he didnt know what he was doing, and theyll tell you thats why his voice fucked up.

  • Whatever this is isn't going anywhere. I still doubt that's why he stopped. I would love to hear a professional opinion on the matter though.

  • I saw dio with black sabbath and he faking sucked balls. And dont get me started on your turbo lover Rob Halford.

  • lol

  • Why the hell you can´t hear any of rob, this would sound a lot better with a lot more bass.

  • this song makes my arm sore

  • stop wanking to it then lol

  • yep, sinfonian39 you have no clue mr 'absolute pitch' LOL

  • i believe over the past few months under recommendation from rick they have been playing in E...not Eb. i'm sure there's an interview somewhere on youtube about it

  • yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • Damn it, why is everyone asking if these things are in E or Eb...just listen to the timbre...it's thicker and less trebly than E. I have absolute pitch, so I know whether or not it's in E, but even so, you don't have to have it to feel whether or not it's in Eb. I'm sorry to burst into verbal flames on this particular video, but I've seen that question thrown around on the other recent videos. I'm just annoyed that so many people are asking. It's a stupid question...go check and don't ask.

  • You'll get over it dweeb

  • And you'll eat my asshair, taintface.

  • Is this in standard E tuning? I'm to lazy to get the guitar and see for myself.

  • nah it's Eb

  • this is lower tone

  • metallica enjoy to play faster and slower!! its heavy to play a riff faster and this riff its amazing and slower sounds more detailed more clean in my opinion!

  • don´t think it´s so much slower than original recording. a bit, but not so much. well, c ya tonight in prague.

  • sounds better slower. sounds meaty and heavy

  • it is not supossed to sound heavy and meaty, it's supossed to sound like killin' thrash in our fuckin' faces.... well, in fact, it is supossed to sound like they want it to sound, cuz is their song and not our, like when they played it acoustically last fall, awesome version... MetallicA baby yeahhh!!!

  • have you ever played a 2hr set before? Don't answer that, i'm certain the answer is no. It's called pacing yourself. Plus, it's their song not yours, they can play it any way they like.

  • i have.... with the church band

  • dude quit whining, if your that upset you know where the close button is.

  • they didnt slow it down that much

  • Kirk gets way too sloppy on that solo, im not saying im better which i am not, but i think its a fair difficulty solo, not too hard, but a lil challenging, but Kirk kinda messes up on it and then he improvises and it doesnt really sound great, i mean, improvisation is great , but when a solo is as good as this one is on the album, you dont need to improvise, i know Kirk is better than that, other than that, i cannot wait til the new album and the next couple of gigs they are playing

  • Really, Metallica needs to take a break from touring so damn much. Yes, I'd probably see them every time they came to Chicago, but lets face it, them touring so much has brought the quality of some of their shows down. You look at a concert from around 2000, like the video of Fuel from Summer Sanitarium 2000, they are amazing. Lars's drums are miced perfectly and he could probably compare with Lombardo at that show. I would believe if they didnt tour as much, the quality would be up there again.

  • its the rcording tech they have half the time,go to the show and you'll hear the kickers going far clearer than here.

and also, you got an idea of what ulrich's mystery illness was?

im not attacking just saying lol

  • haha, I figure, cuz I did see them live and yes it was pretty clear, so idk, maybe at just certain times and the live recordings Lars kick is shitty sounding. As far as his illness though...no idea, lol, I doubt anyone really does know.

  • My best friend works for the place that Metallica did this benefit and we went to this show...very sloppy, but he later found out they'd hadn't really rehearsed for it and if you see somewhere else on here, someone has a video of them still trying to figure out the set backstage, full instruments set up in their dressing room. One of the kick drums was horribly miked, couldn't even hear it, still worth it to see them in a place that small...

  • Hey, how the f* can you compare Portnoy, Ulrich and Lombardo? They are representing so different drumming styles, that that´s completely irrelevant. There always will be someone "better" than someone. Please check out that without Ulrich Metallica wouldn´t be metallica, without Lombardo there will be no Slayer and without Portnoy DT wouldn´t be DT. Lars isn´t technically the best, but i cannot stand the imagination "Metallica with Portnoy". That would be sick as "DT with Ulrich".

  • Holy shit, it sounds awesome!

  • Omg..

    Mr. Ulrich??

No he shouldn't Quit, maybe a drum which you know helps us hear the double bass might help,

And sorry but all those people who have turned away from these are mad, the way these guy kept going after cliff burton makes them ledgends alreay, and yes there has been 2/3 bad albums, but it's just buildingup for a great album in september..

    Hetfield

    Ulrich

    The MEN!

  • those 2/3 albums weren't bad they were just different

  • James Hetfield's Voice Is To Dominant I Think, The Guitars Don't Sound Agressive Enough..

BUT__ Metallica Are The Gods Of Metal, Kerrang Mag' Says So..

  • those who talks shit about MetallicA, shut the fuck up and bow for the metallgods!

  • tight

  • metallica are dark lords of metal! all bow! you are not worthy!

  • Have you ever tried to play this song? I can play it! And let me tell you what! It is very hard to keep that fast alternate picking riff going for that long! I've done it! Your fore arms get extremely tire just half way through it! It takes alot of stamina. Its good to see that they still have that stamina to play it all the way through in spite of their age or what have you.

  • and no its not hard to do if you are good at guitar. your arm gets strengthened from practising which eventually makes it easy

  • you must either not have the stamina built up yet or your probably tightening your forearm too much. Keep it lose and it wont tire, even when playing Master or Puppets with all down picks.

  • Could you imagine Metallica without Lars? I can't! I mean lets say that Lars quit and Dave Lombardo took his place? What that be like? I won't take anything away from Dave cause he's probably the best drummer in metal. But Lars is just what Metallica needs. This video shows why Kirk and James are the best. They are on time so perfectly. I really haven't heard very many that are able to do it as well as they do.

  • dave lombardo is definately not the best drummer in metal you fool

  • yes but not the best drummer in metal. listen to mike portnoy or someone of his standard

  • i agree lars is a lil weak but so are half the drummers out there, theay all have trouble drumming and keeping up, metallica knows how to keep it together, thats why i love them so much i wish i could see them live, but unfortianatly, money is alwasy an isssue witha babby comingin and all.

  • why are you giving him thumbs down? he's totally right in this moment lars (and the Eb tunnig) are the weak link in Metallica.

Lars never was that good, but he did his job... just listen to live shit.any of the shows.

In here he's just sucking too much

  • I totally agree with you : Lars is far away from what he could do 15 years ago and a Lombardo who has approx the same age sounds better than him right now. Please don't compare Metallica and Dreamtheater! Not the same age, not the same music (when Dreamtheater doesn't copy Metallica...)

  • I´m not trying to compare DT and ´tallica. I would just kick every asshole screaming "PORTNOOOOYYY" whether he has no experience with drumming. Portnoy is the one who says "I´m playing odd - time signatures, I´m king!" and everyone says "hey man, that´s true". But did Lars something about, for example, Master of Puppets rhytm? Listen carefully, there are additional times and works perfectly with headbanging...cannot say this about Portnoy´s stuff...

  • Rick Rubin arrived just in time for them. He is one of the best producers in the buisiness. Metallica's new album will be another masterpeice.

  • They where definately on time on this! Nearly as perfect as it is on the album! And I don't care who you are, your voice is never gonna be perfect live! Its a live show! There isn't any time for over dubbing.

  • James sang very clean and careful on this one. I like it. I don't know, what R Y talking about...

  • To all you dudes thinking James can't sing and Lars sucks, relax for fuck sake!! It's their first gig of the year and they aren't warmed up yet. And they are probably exhausted from the recording of the new album as well.

  • at lest, the choruses sounded pretty good!!! well done rob, BACK TO THE FRONT!!!!!

  • Tough song to sing. I hate trying to sing it.

  • I must admit Lars for some reason wasn't comfortable with this it seems. He's much better than that.

  • no, they always makes mistakes a times like this.. they weren't palying from a long time, and seems like theyre out of practice.. nothing else..but yeah, they seux at this.. but theyre gonna fix it..

  • yea i guess when you make an album and playing insturments every day for 2 years, is when ur out of practice.sike. you need not to talk on this any more.

  • nah u need to shut the fuck up. they nailed this, and lars is deff not the worst drummer in metal. you should prolly stick with breaking benjamin, cuase if you think lars is playing bad, this music isnt for you.

  • dude honestly though, i see what you're saying but lars has gotten pretty awful relative to how he used to play. not that his drum parts have ever been horribly complex, with the exception of some justice songs, but he can't even play them correctly anymore. he's got nothing on most of the metal drummers out there today. he fucked up this song and if we watch the "one" performance he fucked the end up. i'd like to see him play one brann dailor or chris adler drum part. it would be laughable.

  • the justice parts are conciderated one of the most complex and hardest parts ever maded.. he can, but hes lazy maybe.. dont u think?

  • okk i see what you mean on that one. but like all metallica needs him for is to keep the beat steady and hes really gotten better then those 2004 videos. technically hes the worst drummer in metal but hes got the beats down pat. but i know what you mean though.

  • You really don't get the point, go listen to Dream Theatre, fucker. Metallica have never said they were great musicians, but that they'll do they best, and might fall on their faces sometimes. I'd like to see YOU go up there in front of 50-60 000 night after fucking night, without ever fuck up a bit. Loser!

  • to pengrunge17

you are absolutely wrong. this time james' voice was a lot better than 3 last years. sounds very good!

  • Upload Scars on Broadway xD

  • How can you replace Hetfield? Dude, that would be the same as replacing Cobain from Nirvana, back in the days...

If you go look up on a dictionary for 'irreplaceable', it will say 'James Hetfield'! lol

  • if they replaced hetfield, than they would have to change the band name, cuz theres no metallica without hetfield.

  • yea u r right, and i think u all know wat i meant to say.of course they can't replace james from band and it should not be done, but he can be replaced from singing ha? :D

rob could be the our new vocalist, maybe :D

  • lol stop talking shit like replacing hetfield OMG!

  • im saying they SHOULDNT u dooshbag

  • If James is replaced,,,this wouldn't be metallica asshole.

  • Lars played this awful.

  • did the amp break dow @ 1:25?:p

    great perfomance though!
