I was turning the lens to change to micro mode and i turn the lens to far around that it snap from setting to micro mode and now i can't set back to nomicro mode and is stuck on micro mode. I try to take the lens out but was to hard and i didn't to break the lens so how can i set it back to nomicro cause won't switch.
DVR feature is fantastic, but limited to SD video. Being able to record HD video on the DVR would be even better. As it is, you can only play HD video from camera to an HD monitor by using component cables and audio cables. With a 32gb SDHC card you can record for NINE HOURS in HD, even LONGER in 720p--AMAZING. Low-light shooting is horrible and the zoom is practically non-existent. HD video quality is stunning even if it's 1440x1080 instead of the full 1920x1080. For $120 it's a smokin deal.
come see my review of this camera, i actually put up what I recorded with the camera It records every little bit of shakyness, and dont turn to fast i dint know it but at 720p 60fps it pickes up the motion badly.
However today I learned how to keep a steady hand and use the focus switch better, and yea for a cheap ass camera it does the job pretty well. If your a dad wanting to record your kid at football learn to use this camera first learn the focus. This camera perfect for stuff like that.
Do you happen to know if other models have the DVR function too? Such as A-HD GVS? The reason is I need the DVR function but I also want the A-HD GVS model's features.
could the camera record me playing like video games? if i had the console plugged into the inputs of the VCR and then the camera's cables to the output?
Yes, it could. You'd have to play using the camera's small screen (or split the output video using a Y-jack), but yes. A computer game console output is no different from a DVD player output.
I mean I want to be able ti transfer from the computer, downloaded material say from something like msn TV or hulu, and be able to watch it while riding the bus to and from work.
You'd have to convert the video and then burn it to DVD, then connect the camera to the DVD player in the same way you'd connect the TV to it (using RCA jacks) and record the video that way (I've done that). Or if you have a media player that can handle RCA jacks (Slingbox? maybe?), that might work.
Yes. In fact, any camera with a standard tripod screw will fit onto any standard tripod. I have a standard one, and one of those flexible ones that can sit on a table or wrap around a branch.
I use iMovie on a Mac. It handles just about anything.
Sorry: no idea what PC software to recommend. Some people say Sony's Vegas Movie Studio Platinum is great for handling HD video files, but the software is around US$80.
DVR = digital video recorder. Record stuff right from the cable / satellite box.
I'm not sure the European release of the camera has that function. You'll need the N.American version (model V5V).
You can record the video games on the American version, but only by plugging the camera into the console (unless your TV as a Video Out feature - most don't). There are ways to split video... ask at your local Dixons or somewhere for RCA splitter cables for starters.
I would love if someone could help me... Ive been recording videos with this camera forever (got plenty of videos on my profile) But i recently got HD component cables for my xbox 360, but i cant seem to hook up my camera and film and play simultaneously. (note that i normally hooked it up to the TV directly) Help would be very very appriciated, and if someone can help, please message me and not reply to this comment, thank you.
You got much better sound out of it then I generaly do. The mic seems to have a lot of distortion. Picture quality, however, is excellent for it's size. If I edit at SD I can cut footage in with things I shot on a camera costing 20X as much.
For the depth of field, if you want it more shallow for effect, you can turn on the macro (picture of the flower on the side of the lense) so that only things within about a meter of the lens are in focus.
Light is all-important. If light conditions are bad (in camera mode), the aperature is open longer. And hand movement (we all have it) means the picture blurs.
Use a tripod, or the flash, or take pics in good light for best results.
can u upload videos 2 utbe with tis easly? i really want this 4 christmas so bad would i be pleasent wit dis???? please reply i gonna get this from radieo shak PLEASE REPLY
i have a question for this aiptek a hd whene my camera the one you just reviewed whene i put on the charger it works and whene i displuge it it doasnt work and whene i first charged it was on green and it still doasnt work when i dissplug it HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's just a standard NP-60 camcorder battery... so it SHOULD just work.
You DO know you have to flip the screen open for the camera to work... right?
If you are having problems, and you have followed all instructions that came with the camera, take it back to the shop / store you bought it from and ask for a replacement.
I hooked it up to my DVR it shows on the screen on the camera for a second or two and then turns to black. Or it plays audio with a black screen. I wish you could come over and teach me lol! I also hooked it up to the tv (I have an HDTV and I used the correct cord) and I can look at the menu and the live feed but the colors are a bluish color and not crystal clear. That is the one thing I haven't got to work yet. If you have a decent video editing software you can smooth the audio a bit.
Fishycomics told me (in another web forum) that the trick with recording from a VCR is:
1 - connect the camera to the VCR
2 - press PLAY on the VCR first
3 - turn the power on the Aiptek on. Select "AV in". Then press the RECORD button on the camera.
If you FF or REV the videotape in the VCR, the signal is lost to the Aiptek and it stops recording. So make sure you give yourself a good 10 seconds lead-in for anything you want converted (and use software to edit the ends of the video).
I've owned three Aiptek video cameras. All three were different models. All three died within 6 months. You get what you pay for. I'll never buy Aiptek again.
i heard when u send videos to your computer, the mov files wont play & youtube wouldnt accept the file. is it true? i only have a mac & can you edit the video clips in the camera
All external videos on my ShawnGBR site were filmed with the Aiptek A-HD.
The .mov files play perfectly on a Mac using Quicktime. The sound and video are perfectly together.
And as you see from the videos uploaded to YouTube, they are all accepted. You just need to remember to keep the videos under 10 minutes, and under 100MB in size.
You can edit the files straight in iMovie. You cannot edit them on the camera (but you can delete videos you don't like from the camera).
I'd say it's worth it. Aiptek have released the 1080 HD version now, which makes it even better value. But if you have over $300, looking at another HD camera would be good too. Ask for a trial run in the shop / store before you buy.
You can review the videos, and delete them, but there is no on-camera function to edit videos. I just use software and it's fine.
What's a "movie mix"? You can view all your movies or photos as a slideshow ...so if you shot things in sequence, you can see them all in the order you recorded them in.
One other downside of this cam that I cant stand is the MOV file format. Even the instructions of the camera says that software companies haven't caught up and there are no PC based programs that edit MOV files, they need to be converted first.
No, that's not quite right, there are many PC based video editing programs that allow you to edit .mov video files. Try Sony Vegas Pro, you won't be disappointed.
I have edited several videos taken with this camcorder in Cyberlink Powerdirector. It's easy to download off of torrent and install a full version of. In MOV format without converting.
Microphone is useless on the camera. Period. Sounds good on his sample video because he is recording himself. The mic points upwards and back. To record audio someone three feet in FRONT of the camera is useless. Otherwise , good camera if you dont need audio.
Can you tell me if the side screen needs to be opened when taping? I ask because I plan on using this on my motorcycle but I can't have the screen opened.
You need the side screen opened when you START recording, but as soon as it has started you can close the screen. It keeps on recording until you run out of space on the SD Card, or the battery dies, or you press the 'record' button at the front of the camera.
Don't crash the bike, and post a link to the video when you make it!!!
To be fair: YouTube video resolution is only 320 by 240. So any camera is good enough for YouTube.
The trick is making sure you don't compress the video too much (otherwise it looks blocky). I use custom settings in iMovie (too long to put it in a reply by text) but I think there are web pages out there that explain it quite well.
Not sure, as I don't have anything hi-def to input as if it were a DVR (I don't have Blu-Ray or HD cable/satellite). But it does have HD RCA cables ...I just don't know if they act as Hi-Def input cables or just output cables to 720p TVs.
It works with a Mac, and I have never installed the software it came with.
I have the white iMac Intel Core Duo running OS X 10.4. Because the camera records .mov format (Mac native), you drag the videos into iMovie as clips, edit them down and add titles and transitions, and you can then export it to iDVD to make a disk (or save as another .mov and use Roxio Toast for CD-Videos).
It can't be used as a webcam, though. eBay sells USB ones for $15 which are fine for making video blogs.
Of course it works with Mac; it records in Quicktime. I don't know about iMovie, but you could use it as a webcam by using the play mode and dumping it, I suppose. I have two SD Cards; one 2-gig and one 4-gig and that's three hours of HD video. I love the damn thing; I use it daily.
I critique a camera, after asking for it for Christmas because I had read up on its pluses and minuses.
I also make a nod to Fishycomics, possibly the best reviewer of video camera equipment on YouTube, and he was gracious enough to rate my review.
You, conversely, just bought it blind. Then you're DISGUSTED, when it doesn't do what you thought it would do. In your mind. Instead of its real functions / limits.
Stick to "sitting in the dark and crying" (your page).
Well it might just be me but I had a hard time trying to get video into Windows movie maker. The files are MOV. files and need to be converted. I also had a bad picture with a spot light. Not a video expert by any means but It is harder to use than my Mini DV camcorder. (I have owned it for about 8 hours. I will return it 2maro.)
I have had the camera for a month. At full Hd I think the the video is pretty darn good! The only exception is the audio gain is to sensitive. I just received a UPS mail label from Aiptek And they upgrade the firmware that corrects the audio. If, and only if yo feel comfortable, a person could attempt the up grade them selves. Good to all who put the firmware upgrade on there camera.
Why the personal attack? All he did was say that you can buy a cheap webcam for $20. Calm down. If you need to tell people to commit suicide, I think you need help.
My Mac has a webcam built in (and software that allows me to view myself and record / edit on the fly), and you can always buy a dedicated USB webcam for less than US$20 on eBay if you have a PC.
Not sure why you'd need to take 720p video through your computer (most webcams are 640 x 480, which is better resolution than YouTube video).
Not sure why you'd be moved to disgust over a camera that costs US$120 either (I usually reserve my disgust for child molesters, liars etc.). Que sera sera.
The Flip Video Ultra shoots at a maximum of 640x 480, which is not-as-good-as-standard TV resolution. The A-HD shoots at 1280 x 720, which is 720p HDTV resolution in Letterbox format.
That doesn't show on YouTube (where the website converts your videos down to 320 x 240 Flash video), but looking at the full-size video makes all the difference. The A-HD is slightly better than standard DVD in resolution.
Great Review. I recently picked up an A-HD, but am trying to figure out what video editor people are using with the .mov files. I am not a Mac Guy so no Final Cut Pro. If you have any info on what video editing software is compatable please let us know.
I'm using Sony Vegas 7 for editing my A-HD video. However, I ran into a small problem. I'm running vista x64 (maybe it's the cause, not sure) and Vegas will not import the files with the .MOV extension. Also, the video and audio can be out of sync.
To fix both issues, I simply rename the extension to .MP4. Once I do that, everything seems fine.
Perfection at its best. This review could not be any better . Some Important info about Av input
THe VHS cassette will only, work if correctly hooked up, casstte plays, camera then plugs up. hit record , walk away. if camera is hooked up first, record a cassette second you'll reset to Live camcorder setting. looking foward to future work . Perfection happy Holidays.:)

joebland101 3 years ago
At High Definition (1280 x 720 pixels, also called 720p), it works out to be around 35 minutes per 1GB on the SD card.
If you choose a smaller resolution (or if you're recording from the TV, which is smaller resolution), each Gigabyte lasts longer.

The DVR (I read on Aiptek site) is 640 x 480, but your movie demo was letterbox ???
TheSkillionaire 3 years ago
The demo was in HD mode, originally 1280 by 720.
ShawnGBR 3 years ago
So, you are saying that the DVR does work in 1280 X 720? (If so, I'm buying one. IT will be esy to help transfer VHS and what not.)
TheSkillionaire 3 years ago
Not sure, as I don't have anything hi-def to input as if it were a DVR (I don't have Blu-Ray or HD cable/satellite). But it does have HD RCA cables ...I just don't know if they act as Hi-Def input cables or just output cables to 720p TVs.

It works very well for this function! The A/V input is the best function of this recorder. It records at DVD quality.

So this works with mac right? Do you have to use a software it comes with? Last, can you use it as a "webcam" AKA live record via imovie?
animation508 4 years ago

Let me get this straight.

HOW DO I CONVERT THE VIDEOS
luiskilla91592 4 years ago
I have had the camera for a month. At full Hd I think the the video is pretty darn good! The only exception is the audio gain is to sensitive. I just received a UPS mail label from Aiptek And they upgrade the firmware that corrects the audio. If, and only if yo feel comfortable, a person could attempt the up grade them selves. Good to all who put the firmware upgrade on there camera.

I actually think he's right, and that, even though it may be hard to accept, you're wrong.

Why the personal attack? All he did was say that you can buy a cheap webcam for $20. Calm down. If you need to tell people to commit suicide, I think you need help.

jeez dude get some help

My Mac has a webcam built in (and software that allows me to view myself and record / edit on the fly), and you can always buy a dedicated USB webcam for less than US$20 on eBay if you have a PC.
Not sure why you'd need to take 720p video through your computer (most webcams are 640 x 480, which is better resolution than YouTube video).
Not sure why you'd be moved to disgust over a camera that costs US$120 either (I usually reserve my disgust for child molesters, liars etc.). Que sera sera.

What do you think is the best HD camcorder to get that is under 300$?

The Flip Video Ultra shoots at a maximum of 640x 480, which is not-as-good-as-standard TV resolution. The A-HD shoots at 1280 x 720, which is 720p HDTV resolution in Letterbox format.
That doesn't show on YouTube (where the website converts your videos down to 320 x 240 Flash video), but looking at the full-size video makes all the difference. The A-HD is slightly better than standard DVD in resolution.
ShawnGBR 4 years ago
is this better than the flip video ultra?

Great Review. I recently picked up an A-HD, but am trying to figure out what video editor people are using with the .mov files. I am not a Mac Guy so no Final Cut Pro. If you have any info on what video editing software is compatable please let us know.
ISPPerformance 4 years ago
I'm using Sony Vegas 7 for editing my A-HD video. However, I ran into a small problem. I'm running vista x64 (maybe it's the cause, not sure) and Vegas will not import the files with the .MOV extension. Also, the video and audio can be out of sync.
To fix both issues, I simply rename the extension to .MP4. Once I do that, everything seems fine.
