@kotapaka How would you drive a car without someone inside it. 4 people is largely for the launch but the front man steers it and i think there are some brakes in there too. But anyway its a sport, and you need people to play a sport

@bobsledder4 : Sorry man, 3:16 is real. Cortina driver's school. I was attending the school. Sled flew out of Antelao corner and landed back in Cristallo corner. Crew was fine. 23 meters in the air. Those things can fly! And in Cortina even a Japanese sled during world cup race flew off the track couple of years before.

With all due respect - you are incorrect on both counts. The 3:16 footage is real. They landed back in the track - I've seen a very similar crash out of corner 8 in Calgary during a driver's school by the New Zealand 2 man crew in '94. Bobsleigh is well over 100 years old and has been an an Olympic event since the first Winter Games in 1924. Crazy shit has happened and sleds have left tracks.

this is an awesome sport, the rush must be something. that said, could someone explain why the bobsleigh still don't have a roll bar installed in front ?

@ Daz I don't think it would make much of a difference in the speed, I've studied aerodynamics and with a slim profile the speed change would be negligible especially it would be the same for all the teams. if you look at the impact, the neck of those guys acts just like a spring absorber in a car suspension

@hystria it is awesome, the reason they dont have roll bars though is it isnt aerodynamic, and it would slow the sled down, and could make them come in dead last

@hystria How would anyone get in the sled after pushing? It is already tight enough getting in as is, adding a roll bar would make it that much harder and crammed. As well if someone needs to eject during a crash for some reason a roll bar would make it a lot more dangerous to do so.
