Hey, What do I need to say to you? We're fucked all around. 1981 and 2011 are in concert with perceptions. Big money bosses know better about our lives. Moving jobs to India and China make sense for "business". Getting rid of the middle class is "good for America". Keeping an under class is the new way to enslave people via Republican agendas. Don't get me wrong, the Democrats aren't far behind. Look at it this way, there is to be no more middle class. Each and everyone of us who are not
this was my first album I ever bought. I had to order it, it was not available in any record shop in the Netherlands. It took 6 weeks to get it, and I still have the album. It still is a favourite album, great lyrics, great music. Listening to this will bring me back in time. We wanted to make a better world, and I still can recognize the activist in me, anti war, anti government, anti racism...
This is f*cking great !! Thanks for posting this. I've got "Playing With A Different Sex" on vinyl underneath a pile of junk somewhere. I've nothing to play it on anyway, so I've just ordered their Anthology CD.
I saw them live in Aberdeen back in 1981 and they were excellent. Some eejit gobbed on Lesley Wood (not a wise move) and she gave the guy some torrent of abuse. Haha, happy days !
Lesley Woods ex Au Pairs calling. Urgently need musicians to work new material and to record etc Need drummer, guitarist, bass player and also someone who can work LOGIC PRO 8 on my beautiful new MAC g5. Please contact Lesley on 07957 959764
God its good to hear this again - I sold all my LPs in a carboot sale 15 years ago but this bass riff just won't get out of my head. Good luck with the new material! If you need a great girl singer with attitude to sing it reply to this post.
Yeah, sure...I saw The Au Pairs at the Aberdeen University Union in 1981 when I was 18. So according to the age on your profile Lesley Woods would have been 16. I don't think so !
Heaven forbid... No I am not a corporate lawyer. I am a lawyer and I specialise in immigration law and human rights. I also do family, housing, copyright, employment and discrimination law. I am also writing a new album and need musos KNow any? Lesley
Are you still claiming to be Lesley Wood?! Someone told me right enough that when women get older they always chop 10 years off their age haha ! Well if you ARE Lesley Wood, then I saw you play at Aberdeen students union in 1981, and very good you all were too. I just bought the "Anthology" CD a few weeks ago, and have just downloaded "We're So Cool" onto YouTube. Oops, maybe I shouldn't have said that, you being a copyright lawyer and all...
You rock. Saw Au Pairs at the Pep in NYC, best gig my little 17 year old ears ever heard. We were mad about you guys. Saw you do a solo thing at Danceteria after you put an ep out with other folks. I have it somwhere...where the hell is all my vinyl? Packed away. What a band, what a voice, what lyrics. Come back to us soon, get those musicians. Nora (ex burnt out paralegal for 20 years, now turned occupational therapist - shocking how lives turn out, no?)
One of the most underrated bands of all time. almost no one in America has ever heard of them. If I hadn't been in a band full of Brits I wouldn't have either.
This was the Band for those who were seriously anti establishment and wanted to change the world. Plus have the best time in the struggle. God they were good!
Fantastic band. Although this track was recorded two decades after the Shirelles' song "He Hit Me (But it felt like a kiss)- written by the otherwise wonderful Carole King and Gerry Goffin - it seems like a lifetime, but it shows how far the experience of women had come. Back in the 80s all the cool girls loved the the Au Pairs, so a teenage lad like me got into them and I still love their music.
Indeed - but isn't COOL something you ascribe to someone else and not to yourself? I dunno, so I should say that "cool girls loved the Au Pairs, so cool geezer like me also loved them." Cheers
Super upload, great to hear this again....MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!! Take a look....

Love you tube for whole new generations hearing this stuff, from when I was younger.
And hopefully realising that nothing really changes!
"Are you working for or with the state...." Brilliant. Well done Lesley.

Et voilà: the ingrediences of beauty. Boredom due to wisdom. Uninvolved presence. Maybe a different sex.
