This is just a bad recording--Frances Ruffelle was the best Eponine. I haven't watched this in a long time and I noticed something this time. The ending is very much like Mao's ending in her Liebenstraum free skate. I guess Lori Nichol really is out of new ideas!
And Kwan knows this better than anyone. "Tothe public," she tells you, "the Olympics is the supreme of the supreme, and I don't believe you can ever truly be a legend without winning it."
"I dreamed of being a legend." … But legends are not made by points alone, in the rink or on the basketball court. For figure skaters, the door to that mythic realm of eight-figure endorsement deals, of celebrity that transcends sports itself, opens only once every four years
This is from an article which quotes the LOL herself!!!
Letter by Asami Itoh on sportsmanship of US figure skaters Tara Lipinski and Nicole Bobek; expresses disappointment at Michelle Kwan's failure to acknowledge and congratulate Lipinski during post-competition interview with CBS's Jim Nantz March 1, 1998
It's in the NY Times...so much for being a 'gracious' loser, Kwan!
And Kwan HAS BECOME A LEGEND, a hard and bitter slap on the face of the UGLY, CAREER-LESS HAS-BEEN Tara Lipinski, otherwise known on Youtube as getrealandsee, allengslandlawns, cleareyed, ithinkformyself, and her other TROLL identities. And Kwan became one even without having to win the medal that was GIFTED to the UGLY, CAREER-LESS HAS BEEN Lipinski. Look who has the last laugh now? Ha ha ha ha ha!

I don't know if Michelle had a PR coach, but I do know Tara should have gotten one! She came off as a "sore winner." But, putting it all in perspective, both were just young girls trying as best they could with the pressures of performing on the world stage.
I remember Michelle on The Tonight Show after returning home. She told a story about someone asking her how she felt about losing the gold. Her response? "I didn't lose the gold, I won the silver". Such class at such a young age :D
@sharepeace3 She has a PR coach..she was devastated and shocked when she wasn't given the gold...what a load of bull kaka...what does she think...that she can just get away with changing her tune when it makes her look good or sympathetic..her interview after she lost the gold...'I have been known as a fighter and I can over come this' ....but of course in keeping with her gracious image she reworded it so it sounded more self serving and noble. PHONY!!
@sharepeace3 Oh PUUUUUUUUUUUUUULEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE...she was devastated, crushed, and shocked that she wasn't given the gold for just showing up.....P H O N Y....just like after smashing Emily's dream...'it's not about the gold'...gag, hurl....
@MeitanteiShiniko This is from the original Broadway recording from the mid 1987. It is a great recording. I think because of the distortion of transfer from VHS to digital is what you are hearing as not good.
@MeitanteiShiniko Yeah, the singer sounds so bad. I think she's Frances Ruffelle, notorious for being the worst-sounding among actors who've done Eponine on Les Miserables.

Well, even to a song "On My Own" Kwan fell and slid across the ice. How delicious is that. The judges didn't hold her up and down she went:)

When Michelle Kwan skates so gracefully it makes her dreamy.

Wow, she doesn't do very many jumps or spins but something about her is so intriguing, she's incredible!

she just skates so subduded here. I think her dissipointment comes through.
