  • gran banda y no se debe comparar con nadie,si te gusta aceptalo y no hay problema.

  • Grand Funk Railroad were good at what they did for those who like their rough around the edges style. To compare them to Bands like Zepplin, Beatles, Sabbath is really really stretching it. Don't get me wrong I liked 'em, but the Brit bands of that era were way beyond the likes of the Michigan rockers. Just sayin.

  • Greatest tune of all time. Led Zeppelin can kiss my ass.

  • @theriotpress

    I hear that brother!

  • I saw them i 69 with black sabbath at the forum..One of the best concerts I have ever seen ..and Ive seen many

  • No disrespect to GFR, but I don't understand all this stuff about them being the biggest and best band in the world. You can talk about Shea Stadium and records all you want, but you can ask around any city in the world, and you'll find that people are much more familiar with bands like Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. and hold them in much higher regard. These guys were a great live act, but when it comes to musicianship, speaking David Gilmour had more talent in his pinky toe than these three combined.

  • No offense man, but I will be realistic.....Seen both bands live....my opinion GFR puts on a better live show . Zep is also talented, but watchin Farner Strut all over stage while playing was awesome.

  • My 1st concert. Brings me back to when life was fun. Humble Pie opened up. I remember Thirty days in the hole going on for a long time. We had a huge bag of this shitty weed but we thought we were so cool. I think I was 14. Man oh man. Life goes by fast. Grand Funk is part of American history if you ask me.

  • great song!!

  • Grand Funk Railroad is what myself, my brother and best friend cut our teeth on when we first started playing together as a group called Purple Jade. Those sounds and vibes are forever burned into my brain and will always be a part of who I am as a musician. Thanks GFR.

  • Mark was our captain..

  • Superb band, but to say they ruled rock from 69-76 is a bit stupid. They were popular in America but hardly heard of in Europe.

Led Zeppelin must be the undisputed kings of rock.Popular on both sides of the Atlantic.

I'm not knocking GFR but to label them as has been done is a bit OTT

  • @dilloss

The first American Band to earn 10 consecutive platinum albums was GFRxR.

  • @PackedFunk I HEAR that!!!!!!

  • @dilloss Hall of Fame material...regardless!

  • @Anaris10 Funk Should Have Been In Years Ago! They Are Great.

  • @dilloss Funk Was Way Better Than Zeppelin! I Don't Care How Popular They Were In Europe, It's AMERICA That COUNTS!!!!!!!

  • @BurningGlobe Led Zep 200 million album sales GFR 11 million.70% of Zep's sales were in AMERICA.

I like GFR and not having a go at them but lets be realistic.

  • @dilloss it's a fact that Zep sold more, everyone knows that. But there is a difference, Zep had major publicity. GFR didn't. GFR barely had radio play. If they had who knows what would've happened. I adore both. But, I can't downplay GFR's accomplishments.

  • @dilloss ..a bit Stupid? Then, look back at 'your' very words... 'must be the undisputed kings of rock.Popular on both sides of the Atlantic.' GFR is the top 'Classic Rock' selling band for the above mentioned era. Research more on the 'net & you will eat your words. As PackedFunk mentioned - in America... they were the Top Selling Live Show for their era, also. Research, man.

  • @dilloss Homer simpson is a fan of GFR...enuf said

  • 2: 40 , ambience and the whole fucking cosmic echo just turned fucking epic

  • Who's the 38 dislikes, what are you nuts the railroad was and still is the bomb if whomever they are should reverse their decisions and get their brains back on track.

  • Beastie Boys get into the Rock and Roll HOF but not GFR....go figure.

  • A band that if they did`nt get riped off by there manager would still be puting out hits today!!!

  • 37 poor souls who's musical taste is in thier ass

  • PackedFunk~ Amen brother, amen.

  • Grand Funk Railroad is what I consider the epitome of what Rock and Roll is supposed to be -- a three piece garage band that went on to be the most popular band in the world. They were simple and they were crude and they rocked with a vengeance without pretense or apology. Their live show was 100% energy. It was raw and it was real. For all us Funk Fans who remember, NOTHING CAN REPLACE IT!!

    That is rock and roll.

The sad part is The Hall of Fame has no idea what I'm even saying.

  • @PackedFunk how this bank can continue to tour a GFR without Farner is just false advertising

  • people havin a good trip......

  • @5Lofmustard I agree black double dome acid!!!

  • I want to hear Black Licorice-- See if I can find it

  • Only band to sell out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles did.

This show was HUGE back then.

  • Me and a few friends managed to sneak into this concert at Shea . Some of the people trying to get in managed to push a souvenir kiosk close to the wall and strung a plank to the outside walkway wall. As they where trying to traverse the plank, NYC's finest where pushing them back to the ground. About 20 meters away, a good Samaritan strung his and another belt over the side wall.. I was the last to shimmy up and was whacked in the ankle by a policeman's knight stick....It was worth it...

  • @MaxSplinters Now THAT is the kinda story I love to read when watching legendary videos like this man!

  • i'm a singer and i can't sing like Mike, and he does it while playing the guitar!awesome band, very underrated bassist and drummer too.i guess u can say they're very talented, that's not an overstatement by the way, would u agree?

  • @djnas76 i Agree...Fuck AMA_ShiT Hiphop!!

  • they sold out a show to folks who could never recall it.... they were down eaters who drank to much beer and then puked !!! grand funk fans ah remember them well.. thats why my pals in hs liked gentel giant ..king crimson and pink floyd much more dont get me wrong gf i liked ...just ...didnt love them ..all the girls at there gigs wow befor they got to high and vomited !!......they were simalar to dead heads there fans were a bunch of idiots !!!! humble pie stole this show as i recall glenn

  • @MrMusicboxing Humble Pie stole the show ? ? ? Who was playing when the cement bleachers were bouncing so much they feared the stadium might collapse !

  • I might be old now!! But I'm glad I got to grow up in the 70's. You can keep the cell phones and X-box. I wouldn't trade them for my old L.P.'s any day!!

  • Saw them live in 1975. One of the best shows that I have ever seen. No elaborate stage stuff, just brilliant rock n roll. Wish I could go back to those days......

  • This video just makes me smile...damn, that audience was having a good time...:)

  • @45arther---GFR was a GREAT band in their time. I am sure you would like to be as great as they were--Crawl back in your hole.

  • youth sentiment for me (57)

  • The weird thing about this is that they sound even better live then in the studio which they sounded frickin great. I cant think of to many bands that were like this.

  • @eartubes I always get a kick out of bands that claim to be bigger then they were. I see all over the internet that GFR was bigger then the Stones or Zeppellin ( laughable ). Can anyone tell me WHY someone would claim this. And tell me what record they claim to have set at Shea Stadium that hasn't been broken. Remember the Stones sold out Shea Stadium for 6 shows in October 1989. Please help me understand the hugeness of GFR.

  • @45arther I looked it up. The Stones sold out Shea Stadium 2 times in 90 minutes in 1989. GFR claims that selling it out in 3 days is still a record. That is obviously false and I can't believe anyone could believe that. IF you like GFR thats fine, but they sure don't have any attentence records. They were never in the same league as the Stones or Zeppelin, or prime Bruce as aq concert draw. Can anyone tell me where they got the fact that GFR held thses records. I am huge on accuracy.

  • @45arther Not sure how old you are but maybe your one of those Stones and Zeppelin fans that dont think any other band was as great as them. Yes Stones and Zeppelin is great but so were these guys during the 70's and for you NOT to think that, then you really don't know music. Your hooked up on the records at Shea Stadium, but in 1971 for a band to sell out a Stadium was a HUGE deal. Now you jump in 18years later and throw in the Stones record and it wasn't as big as a deal as it was then.

  • @eartubes for GFR selling out Shea was a big deal. The only reason bands like the Stones Zeppelin or the Who didn;t sell out Shea in that era was because they didn't play Shea. Had they played it in the early 70s they would have sold it out in one day. When the Stones played Madison SQ in 1972 there were so many ticket requests that they had to have a lottery. Millions of people tried to get tickets.

  • @45arther You may not know this but when GFR sold out shea you could ONLY get tickets at Shea stadium box office ,, Unlike Billy Joel , Elton John , Bruce Springsteen and all the other fags , where you could just get them on the internet or phone or strawberrys ... Thats the difference.

  • @47tooter

Sadly when I was in HS in the early 70;s GF went to Albuquerque to perform at an old venue that no longer exists called the Civic auditorium. During the concert a security guard set off a tear gas bomb that got into the heating vents and they had to clear the building. The concert never resumed and the band never returned. Fans lost out on this big time.

  • @47tooter Fags? It shows that you don't have any respect for other great musicians. Yes, GFRxR was one of the best bands of all time, but you cannot argue that the others you listed were not great.

  • wow its like giant a jam session of just having a good time and loving eachother. we need concerts like that now. with good music

  • Fucking Awesome

  • Got to love the70's. No Studio fine tuning of the voice. Just plain raw talent. Great Voice and musicians. I wish I could have seen these guys growing up.

  • Grand funk got screwed by their manager and the law. My heart goes out to them . Capitalism is ugly, and has no justice.Grand funk is a wonderful band.

  • can u hear me or am I all alone,is a simple question, with one of 2 concievable answers

  • you might say Grand Funk Railroad is an "American Band"

  • one thing most great musicians have in common...born in Michigan!

  • the shirtless vocals of Mark Farner, the bong rattling bass of Mel Schacher, the compitent drumming of Don Brewer

  • @chhhhhhhhhhhhhase13 Are you talking about the old Accord Arena at the Salt Palace? Did you ever get to see AC/DC and the Greatful Dead perform there?

I happen to live in downtown Salt Lake. They probably built 10 new towers since I moved to Utah in the summer of 1990.

  • To think. back then, I hated Grand Funk. Too raw and testosterone driven; sold too many albums, and the chicks loved them.

Listening to them now, I guess I've learned something. Don't let your own personal biases get in the way of a great band.

  • What I like about this is the fan reaction is real. Not this correagraphed staged fake bullshit you see today.

  • best of the best

  • great song of all time

  • I was at this show...Humble Pie opened...on the way up the escalator,we found a a joint,we were so happy, cause all we had were 5 tabs of sunshine, one for each of us...........i cant believe there is a clip from this show, thanx so much for posting it....blotter anyone?!

  • I love this song!! Awesome band. Why aren't they in the R and R Hall of Fame?

  • My #1 favorite band 69-74 ! I,m from their home town area . Lapeer/Flint,Mi. (NOT DETROIT !!)and never got to see them as they only played Flint 1 time due to The Flint Journal Slamming them on the eve of their first Euro tour just as they hit big. They ruled all the local High Schools around & in Flint and all the bands were covering them if they didn't wanna get booed of stage !! I have a pic of me with a a G.F.R patch& Seger BACK IN 72 concert patch on a jeans jacket in 73. Wish I had it know

  • Fuckin' A!!! Grand Funk was THE greatest American Rock Band.

When all the English bands were getting all the pub, these guys from fuckin' Detroit came out and said: Hey, we're a Fuckin' American band and you bitches better recognize! The hits dont lie and the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame needs to get it straight!

This is a New Yorker sending Love to Detroit and The Grandest of Funks!

  • when i listen it , i realize how the today's music is a crap and bunch of shit .

  • those guy are legends !

  • Holy crap. I saw these guys at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah, back when it only had around three or four tall buildings. These dudes were fabulous. First time I ever smelled pot. The Salt Palace has since been demolished. God, I'm old.

  • I saw EVERYBODY, but the BEST concert I ever went to was Grand Funk in 1972 in Madison, WI I know I was "floating" over the top of Mark Farner while he was playing the guitar solo to "Inside Looking Out". And they accomplished this and sold out stadiums WITH OUT any radio play. AMAZING

  • what a great band

    peace :)

  • bass players pants???? wild huh?

  • Vitamin A seemed plentiful in that crowd!

  • 1972 L.R.CLG-4 .....FREEDOM

  • I also liked the fact that the bands back then didn't need all the special effects on stage that they have today. The music was the effect!!!

  • @quitchawhining The drugs were the effect.

  • @TheVoiceofresistance Yeah...I believe you're right!!

  • @quitchawhining That's because they had talent

  • Mark Farner had one of the BEST voices in music!!!! GFR rocked the world!!!

  • DOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best always come outa Michigan!

  • @Zepp3849 then explain the detroit lions.or eminem.

  • @tomterry1528 to hell with eminem. Its the lions year though!

  • @Zepp3849 lions might have a good yr finally.youll need it to cheer you up after tigers get bounced(mets fans, yankee hater here)

  • Love this group...BUT, there is a dude behind the drummer playing guitar, at least maybe he is tuning?

  • Its crazy that pre beard Zak Wylde and Wino Weinrich look a lot like Mark Farner.

  • What a shame, my favorite Rock band and in 1971 I headed to Viet Nam for 3 yrs. and never did see GFR in concert. They remain to this day my favorite rockin band. Thanks for posting this.

  • @Lonewolf36 Your still right on to come back Bro.!!

  • @rogcuadra I believe you are refering to making it back from Viet Nam. Thank you. Spending 10 yrs in the AF was not an easy task but I made the best of it and actually turned it into a positive experience for me.

  • @rogcuadra II still wish I vcould have seen Grand Funk in concert during the 70's. I have all of their albums and we have YouTube to keep my GFR alive.

  • Excelllent video. Glad that I grew-up with the 8-track.

  • THE FIRST AMERICAN BAND TO EARN 10 CONSECUTIVE PLATINUM ALBUMS IN ANY MUSIC GENRE WAS GRAND FUNK RAILROAD.

That is a pretty awesome achievement that can never be taken from them!

Give GFRxR the credit they deserve by signing petition listed above.

  • @PackedFunk G F R sold out Shea in New York faster than THE BEATLES

  • @PackedFunk In the r&r hall of fame yet ?

  • @PackedFunk the most overrated band of the time just like bruce springsteen tons of media ....mcdonolds sells a lot of burgers.... i like a good steak.... instead like king crimson pink floyd a heck of a lot more in retrospect not as bad as i remember there fans drunken downer heads covered in vomit ......humble pie was better that night @!!! thats my memory of grand funk fans .....sorry

  • @MrMusicboxing Im sorry for you too!

  • @PackedFunk yeah, but WE know.

  • @PackedFunk I am a big GFR fan, but they were never the biggest band in the world, they may well have been the biggest band in the USA, but in Europe no-one's heard of them!

I have been a fan since 1970, but I'm the only person I know who's ever owned a GFR album, my band play Closer To Home and in the UK hardly anyone knows it! As I said I am a big fan so don't take offence.

  • @jackHNv Sorry Jack my man, I am from Scotland and had 6 GFR albums, so they were known in Europe....

  • @TheRichardwatt I did say hardly anyone in the UK not no-one! They were known in Europe, well Germany anyway, but they got nowhere near the level of popularity they achieved in the USA (mainly becuase they never toured Europe to any great extent, as far as I know they only ever did two gigs in the UK).

A measure of how good this song is that when my band plays it it always gets one of the biggest rounds of applause, even though most people don't know it!

  • 35 Justin Bieber fans.

  • Im happy to see a mark farner doesnt look like a girl even though he has long hair,

cant say that about robert plant, have you seen 'Song remains the same'? Dude from Black Crows gets a big thumbs down as well!

  • Knew these guys when they were Terry Knight and the Pack

  • How big was GFR back in the early 70s?Well check that crowd out for an accurate picture.I was 13 years old in '71 and these guys were GODS.

  • I was at this show , I was 17 at the time .

  • @Radikul71 your very lucky!

  • i wasnt lucky enough to enjoy the 70s, and barely the 80s being 30, but shit like this makes me love the old skool! my best friend plays in a classic rock band, has for 35 years! hes also my dad and cuz of him, classic 60s-80s rock will always be my favorite, dont get me wrong, 90s rock, and 80s-90s hiphop is in my blood cause its what was in my ERA, but they take a back seat!

  • haha yeah that dudes spacin out towards the end

  • Magic :)

  • Damn. The Drummer and Farner's sideburns even manage to harmonize.

  • I saw GFR in Columbus, Ohio at St. John Arena in 1973 I think it was. First big concert and I was blown away!

  • @ALEXPROGROCK I agree this guys are very talented

  • The only thing that comes to my mind watching these old videos is more than half of the crowd is either on ACID or some other drug lol lol lol

  • @kottonmouthking505 It may be, but listening this kind of music, I mean, this quallity of music made of music masters, it´s easy to get that LEVEL without using anything but just hearing this talented guys

  • @kottonmouthking505 Dude, the guy at 4:15 is clearly discovering the meaning of life.

  • hilarious

  • One thing that I think is unique about Mark Farner as a front man for a hard rock band is that he really sings, he doesn't scream.

  • Just saw this guy last night in front of a crowd of about 1000 people. Freaking great.

  • This was my first concert. I was 9. My ears are still ringing! ;7

I just wish Mark was still with the band. They're not quite the same without him.

  • Comment removed

  • Good lord but that a whole hell of a lot of spastic hippies in that crowd. Love it. I can just imagine the cloud of smoke over Shea during this.

  • seeing them in a week and 2 days in thunder bay! cant wait!!! of course without mark though:( but still gonna be freaking awesome!

  • @Leoo40 Things in the US looked pretty bright 11 years ago. Then 8 years of Bush and corporate control of the media, the message and voting got us in horrible debt, the worst unemployment since the early 1930s and an entire decade of human adult males addicted to video games. The 2000-2010 decade was one of the worst in our history ... and the 2010s are not off to a great start, especially with a corporatist Supreme Court doing everytyhing it can to ensure the billionaires remain in charge.

  • I slept on the sidewalk outside of Shea Stadium just to buy tix for this concert. Man, was it worth it! Drove my "70 Pinto down w/ 3 friends . Excellent time, good trip (lol) and surprise, Humble Pie was awesome opening act. Never will forget it! Woodstock, Shea and Led Zepp @ the Garden..this explains alot.

  • @jerry12601 good ole days, man. saw them in 72 with 3 dog night. had a pinto too. damn.

  • @jerry12601 Was Frampton with Humble Pie then?

  • @edwardschlosser1 Great question and after much research... according to info gathered on various web blogs and such, the answer is.................yes! Apparently, Frampton went solo in late '71. This concert @ Shea was 7/09/71, coming up on forty years ago..Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Frampton is still touring. He just did a concert in Danbury, Ct on 7/01/11.

  • @jerry12601 iwas at all the concerts u mentionand i often wonder when i read oldtimers concert posts could i have stood next to that person at a concert40 or more years ago lol 2 examples a woman walked up to me in 1982 on 59th st in NYC and said you wont remember me but i remember you cause you gave me papers at woodstock( i'm 6 ft 6 and she remmebered me and i sat on a plane from the U.K first class next to a woman who said she stood next to me at a queen concert in wembley odd shit

SHE SAYS IF WE HAVE SEX, SHE WANTS TO KICK ME IN MY BALLS BEFORE WE HAVE SEX..SHE "SAYS" THIS WILL PREVENT HER FROM GETTING PREGNANT.. i HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS.. SHE IS VERY PRETTY AND i REALLY WANT TO GET INSIDE HER BUT I DON'T WANT TO MESS MY BALLS UP IF I WANT CHILDREN .LATER..WHAT DO YOU THINK???

  • @nihonjinonnanochitsu You are a fuckin idiot how can a asshole like yourself even begin to write such nonsense on a page of greatness.

  • @spiegelsteven HEY, MY RECTUM ITCHES GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE AND SCRATCH IT WITH YOUR TONGUE.

  • @nihonjinonnanochitsu

Seriously you gotta be an asshole to let someone kick your nuts to have sex, think about it don't mess your life up just because a woman

  • @yael66624488 OKAY LIKE YOU I SHOULD LET A GUY MESS MY LIFE UP

  • Thank you so much, I need to see this song so long ago since I was in Highschool. Also, need to see them with Orchestra in 1999 album because I have only CDs.

  • @Leoo40 thats cause they all think they are entitled.

  • Just added this rocker to my favorites (YEAH!!!)

  • This Rocks!!! Man, I wish I would have been old enough to see Grand Funk at Shea Stadium in New York. Unfortunately, I was only 9.

GRAND FUNK ROCKS BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!

  • @Leoo40 ....and the citizens have both Corporate America & a few crooked goddamned Polititians,

{ Carter, Clinton, Bush Sr & Jr, and finally, this O'Bunghole fucker } to thank for what this Nation has now become. THANX FUCKERS !!!!! May each of you ROT Eternally in HellFire.

  • Although many things of old have passed into memoryville. I seem to have retained the Rebel Attitude. lolol

  • Well, I could care less about weed being legal, as those days are long past. The 70's did Rock though. Grand Funk 1974 was my very 1st concert, age 15 in the Dallas area. Good Grief, lol that was many great concerts and eons ago. There was a freedom of the 70's that we will never have again, lmao and maybe we shouldn't. Although most who grew up in that time period have a decent set of morals they live by, that most of the kids of today seem to lack.

  • @Leoo40 Yep, back then you could actually have unprotected sex in a phone booth. Ask kids today what either one is!!!

  • Yes, they really were that great. A sensational rock and roll show. They were able to capture a feeling. I guess you had to be there. The music (and this video clip) is a great reminder though. Thanks for posting it!

  • @Leoo40 ,it's a dying breed. We're just harder to find these days; amidst the younger folk.

  • @Leoo40 all we gotta do is make marijuana legal and were half way there

  • @Leoo40 Come on, were they that great? Really? Think about some of the changes that took place. Don't get caught in the time warp of since I lived it it was the best. I grew up then too and I have to disagree with your conclusion. Not to challenge your op but totally disagree.

  • Thanks, Flash . Yes I remember swing that guitar on several albums which I've had since the 70's. I believe he played it at Atlanta for the live album.

  • Still trying to find out what kind of guitar Mark is playing.

No. its not a les paul.

  • @highwaterband It was made by Messenger and was used on the first three LPs.

  • @highwaterband This is Musicraft Messenger.

  • @PackedFunk

They 9 Gold albums in a row of which five went Platinum and the album "Closer to Home" (1970) went Double Platinum

  • Grand Fanke Super !!! Pitchers !

  • YEP U ARE RIGHT, ZEP, even more in IN THEIR LATER MUSIC-WAS HARD TO PLAY AND SOUND FULL LIVE-John paul really held them together live-page sounded empty live--eckk!-mainly they just jammed,,lol

  • I am so connected to Mark, Don and Mel -- I was very sad how the guitar sound changed when Mark's old guitar died. That new one he got for the silver album (with We're an American Band) jolted me, but the sound changed.Eventually, I liked it for its own merit, but I miss that old sound they had.

  • Mark, Don and Mel forever!

  • @FlashYes1 Super !!! Grand Funk ... Love !!!

  • this is some fucking bullshit you post 2 fucking blogs then you gota push in some fucking code that you cant under fucking stand i hate this bullshit..its more trouble than its fucking worth...

  • ALL I KNOW IS THE Y BLEW LED ZEPPELINS AZZ OFF THE STAGE AND PETER GRANT GOT MAD...thats the story i most remember..lol

  • @TheTayedrums Well you know Led Zep was only good as a studio band, mixed every way possible.I saw them in 77 at the Cap Centre, and to date i can say they where the worst band to see live.I am not hating, but their best stuff was made in studio fer sure...........
