  • this was my childhood...:)

  • why people nowadays don't wear such dress anymore?

  • It's long been socially acceptable for older men to hook up with younger woman. Witness Michael Douglas with Cathrine Zeta-Jones, Woody Allen with Soon Yi, Paul Simon with Edie Brickell, Harrison Ford with Calista Flockhart, etc. I'm guessing these woman met them through carbon-dating service.

  • And a couple of hundres years ago, it was no strange for a 5 year old boy/girl to marry a 15 year old boy/girl

  • Ralph Varner's Anthem

  • It sounds like he says fuck heaven lol

  • People who think this is about pedophilia are stupid. The reason Chevalier sings in praise of little girls is because they grow up to be women.

  • HEY! This is my Grandpa! And he is not a pedaphile u sicko's! He is dead. So chill out u freaks! He's been dead for about 30 yrs...but his spirit lives on!

  • Is that right? IMDB doesn't mention Chevalier had any children, much less grandchildren.

  • la peliculaaa esta muyy wapaaaaa leslie caronnnnnnnnnnnnnnn eres la mejorrrrrrrr jajaja me encantassss y mas en Lili

  • Sacre bleu! Where are ze par-raaants uh?

  • Who izz zis seeeck pear-vart? Mon dieu!

  • Oui! Oui!

  • In all honesty, I understand that this song has very innocent connotations given that this was written in much more simpler times.

But this day and age, it's fun to assume this is a pedophile's anthem.

  • actually I think its us who are fucked up and assume dirty things.

i think this song is totally innocent, but its todays corrup society that makes anything seem sexual.

i think hes just talking about how men are lucky to have women, and that women are a beautiful thing, and that without girls we wouldnt have women, because girls grow into women.

    its just a song people

  • I love this musical! I love the non-musical too! I played Gigi and it was soooo much fun! I sang this song backstage all the time!

  • I really love this song

  • i am doing this song for an audition for my school play, i think i am good but i am a bass so it will sound wierd

  • uhm pedophile muchh?

  • Heh. In all fairness, you should see the film to understand that it is not what you think.

  • once gigi went off with gaston thats all that was left for me to think.

  • If I'm clueless of Gaston & Gigi's relationship, I would go with the consensus of the other people in the cafe scene too, that is...if I'm morally bankrupt. The moral of this movie is probably not to judge with people or not to go along with what everyone thinks. And probably this movie's a lesson about individuality too.

  • gigi also had a mind. her grandmother and her grandaunt had it in mind for her to be going from man to man but she loved and wanted only one.

His visit to the cafe made him realize Gigi's side and he didn't want to be without her. He did not want her talked about the way most men talk about the women that they have had. He realized he wanted more from her.

  • Zomg! They would've never approved this song if it was made couple of years ago. Fukken saved!

  • ¡Este tío es un puto viejo pederasta!

    ¡¡A fucking pedofile!!

  • I loved this movie when I was a little girl, lol! :) My daddy used to sing this song to me when I was little and when I watch it, it still reminds me of him. I'm 21 now so that probably seems silly but I still love this movie. Thanks for posting this clip!

  • I loved this movie--seen it twice, actually. And I'm sad that back then, a song like this was just charming and sentimental, a tribute to youth and innocence. Well, we as a culture aren't nearly so innocent anymore! Now we see it through a scope that's been tainted by "To Catch a Predator," child abuse cases, pedophilia, etc. We'll never get *our* innocence back.

  • are you implying that there was not child abuse back in those days? or merely descibing our scope of how we saw things in the past?

  • This song is used in wag the dog when the opposition party makes an election commercial against the President who was just accused of harrasing a scout....

  • Forgive my frankness, but I'm filing this one under: creepy shit. I know it's supposed to be innocent and all of that, but I'm a child of the 80's; my first response will always be the sudden urge to take a shower and wash away the skeeviness that I associate with the syntax of this particular song.

  • That is what makes it so funny.

  • oh good, i'm not the only one who made the pedophile connection between this old guy and his little girls.

  • some of these remarks just shows how far we have sunk

  • This is so hilarious, i cant help just laughing out loud, "5 6 or 7" hahahahhaa

  • Ignore these idiots. They don't understand a time which was innocent and magical.

  • innocent

  • If you watch the film carefully, they're training Gigi to be an escort... It's dressed up differently so you don't notice it, but there something disturbing about the underlying theme of the film.

  • I saw this on Broadway and as a movie. I was young and 44 years later this production sends chills though me. It was an era we shall never have again. The days of Sound of Music, Camelot and My Fair Lady so many more are gone forever!

I thrill to them, my spirit is lifted and I always feel better because they exist!

  • I think traditional living in the U.S. has made us all suffer from sexual paranoia. We translate the most innocent of songs into something disgusting and perverted. We cant live or let live in the most peaceful of ways.

  • this was albert's fish favorit song.

  • Mohammed's theme song.

  • thi is a pretty nice song but i cant help feel awkward evertime i hear it...

  • My best friend thinks this is a weird song...but i laugh and smile at it.

  • when someone first hears this, they may think its a little creepy, but its actually a beautiful song, for all of you out there who think otherwise. this man is appreciating an important part in our world.

  • Unclealand... the only 'sickness' is in your mind

  • I love this movie.

  • I first saw this movie back in the early 1960s at Radio City Music Hall in N.Y.when they wer showng first run movies. They dont make them like this anymore.and this is the best song.

  • For a guy like me who has been fortunate to have known a wonderful mother's love, followed by the thoughtful caring love of a great wife and two daughters, this song just brings great joy and warmth to my heart.

  • Fortunately I am straight and you're just jealous.Too bad you're screwed. Hahahahahaha.

  • Dear Fossdog You have a problem. Why don't you get a real life. I have a great one. I'll bet you envy me, Hehheheheh.

  • What a lovely statement. I have no daughters but many neices who are all crazy but adorable!

  • Great movie and song.

  • Oh good lord. That's weird.

  • If it weren't for this song i would have changed the channel and never saw the movie...thank heaven for Turner Classic Movies

  • I would have changed the channel too if it weren't for this opening number with Chevalier. I'm glad I didn't... this is one of my favorite movies now.

  • feminist "RIOTS" for what ??? those feminist should seek a professional help.
