Dio came to the "metal game" late in life. He was already an older man in a young man's musical genre back in the 70s. He was older than half the Beach Boys, Beatles, and Rolling Stones. To give you some idea, he started in rock and roll back in the days of rockabily and doo-wop.
at 12 years old at a mall in peabody mass in 1984 i asked my mom for some money to buy a tape, yeah thats right i said tape, cause thats what we had back then, i go straight into the store and grab DIO THE LAST IN LINE, i go back and meet my mom, she says, WHAT TAPE DID YOU BUY? i pull out the FIRST RECORD I EVER BOUGHT and show it to her, she looks and sees a demon with peole burning in fire and shit on the cover and says OH MY LORD! she knew there was gonnabe trouble!
