too many supra videos.. when i first watched this even though it says nissan skyline i thought there was something wrong with the camera because the intake manifold is on the oposite side from supra engine.. thats just how they're made.. brainfart!
@poncecarra Yes. A motor whitout a turbo just have vacuum in the manifoil. no pressure that drives the blow off valve. Whit a turbo you got pressure in the manifoil. And that opens that valve, who opens up so the extra pressure goes out
i have a 92 talon tsi, and i had a stock exhaust on it for a while with a 20g turbo at 12psi, and the bov is a greddy type r, or rs (not sure exactly) and then after i put a 3" turbo back exhaust on it the boost went to 18psi without even touching the boost controller and the BOV sounded ammmazing after that... so try changing your exhaust, it really makes a world of difference in turbo cars.
you dont know what your talking about mate.... You dont need to plumb it back when running the afm putting it in the atmo is fine. Notice the stock j-pipe with the bov on it? A simple upgrade of removing stock bov and replacing.
What the hell does the stock pipe have to do with it? Or the type of valve. The point Im making is the rich spike you get on a gear change when on boost, caused by the BOV being vented to atmo.
The reason is, when you shift & the throttle body closes & the valve opens the air should be returned to the intale after the AFM effectively closing the AFM therefore reading little air flow resulting in a reduction in fuel flow. if done atmo the AFM will continue to read that X amount of air is flowing through the intake and fuel accordingly resulting in the spike. We've all seen a skyline at some point chuck a puff of black smoke on G/change this is why.
Yeah I do to mate. The reason I referred to the stock bov and j-pipe is because your claiming that the bov should be plumped back when running an afm, when the c33 laurel's a31 cefiro's, and the skylines come stock putting it into the atmosphere. There is no spike in fuel when you change the gear ONLY if your a shit enough driver to have your foot on the accelerator as you drop the clutch and change gears. It is not caused by the bov being vented into the atmosphere there are mainly 2 reasons...
number 1 reasons is that due to the laws such as in Aussie *quote me if I'm wrong someone* the land transport see's the air going into the atmosphere a pollution *We all know that's bs* just as they see screamer pipes.
number 2 is due to some people seeing it getting plumped back more gain through the intake.
These are the only reasons. If you have/believe a 3rd reasons which I believe you do you should share it with us so please go ahead and go into as MUCH detail as you can. Cheers
I must say that the BOV being vented to atmo on skylines is a new one to me.
Many change the valve to atmo without knowing the effects (apart from sound) both positive and negative.
There IS a pollution aspect being crank case gases which would be returned to the intake and being burnt. Unfortunately oil mist is a effective octane reducer, not good. Its more about the noise just like the screamer which relates to exhaust & the cat.
Yeap they did vent the BOV to the atmo in many early model skylines. how is there is a pollution aspect when all it is is traped air in the intercooler piping? It doesnt go through any oil or fumes unless the turbo has a leak. Why did you mention the cat? The cat just filters stuff?
The crank case breather vents into the intake prior to the turbo so any atmo venting releases these fumes. Minimal amounts but it is there. (you'd be suprised how much oil coats the inside of the I/cooler if you don't have a catch can)
The cat is not a filter but a catalytic converter provides an environment for a chemical reaction wherein toxic combustion by-products are converted to less-toxic substances.
There are two main types but I won't go into that now.
less toxic for the environment. Details are not needed thats a whole different subject. Its best just to gut the cat lol due to becoming ineffective over years of abuse.. Whats your take on front facing plenums?
I'm assuming you are referring to the plenum on an RB25.
It's not a majorly effective upgrade unless you are chasing big power, looks, a shorter inlet path etc. The factory plenum can made some really good numbers.
As for the cat I decided to get a high quality high flow than risk the 5K fine.
Having a tweeked up rotor the cops will sooner or later give it a once over.
Had no loss in power or sound.
A good 2nd hand gtr cat can flow heaps for a good price and still be legal.
well you got aftermarket ones for any rb here we call it chop and block and its simple as that...chop it and block it and put the throttle etc at the front lol. Exactly and it gives better throttle feel. Hmm 5g fine? shit where do you live? here they would do nothing and just make u get a new one. I got a nissan c33 laurel wich is rb20 but i got s2 rb25de which im going to +T for higher comp with a rb20det gearbox etc etc. should be fun. Whats your rotar?
Had it built by Rotormaster bout 1 1/2 yrs ago. but havent been able to register due to a fuck up by the fools who complianced it and made a mistake. Now Im about a month away from getting the second compliance plate back.
Nearly lost the thing in a flood where it is stored two weeks ago. And thats 300km away so was freakin but got a truck in.
Wow I have to admit I didnt know what you where on about but now I do. Yes what you said is exactly what happens as the 'crank case' which I more commonly call it the rocker covers gains ALOT of fumes and moisture which gunks it all up and this does need to be released so they put an outtake to the bov to release it *yes it is very little* thus acting as a catch can *catch can is better of course* and yes a cat also known as a catalytic converter provides a chemical reaction making the chemicals

Check it out if you think it's not possible, but my stang rapes the HKS drag skyline and still runs track. Skyline is just Japanese joke.
GTS Skyline's are a joke, i agree, but if you were to race a GTR Skyline, man you'd get blown outta the fucking water. quit trying to brag and sound cool. nobody fucking cares about your fucking mustang.
I have to disagree, buying a gts is like buying an automatic, 4cyl, manual everything, convertible mustang compared to buying the top of the line one. GTRs have so many other advantages, engine size, braking, suspension, ecu, etc etc the gtr was designed for racing (the wider rear curvy quarter panels are for side force) the gts is the cheaper model.
But the gts is not all wheel drive like the gtr so depending on what you want to do with it is a factor you have to consider. now as for engine they are 6 cylinders and everything with a max of a .6 liter difference Id take a gtst over the gtr any day due to the rear wheel drive feature and endless tuning possibility like the gtr.
I agree there the only way youd want gtst is because of rear wheel drive, After owning a gtr and driving a friends gtst I just felt no comparison between the two power wise, Gtst would need lots of mods before Id go for it. But yes it does depend.
You are correct there the gtst would take quite a bit of tuning to get it to the power level of a gtr but it really is quite pointless because of the rear wheel drive. But either way you go you cant go wrong really all skylines are awesome :D

I had a 26RB and that sob blew more times than I could count trying to run it around, I traded it for Mustang, better overall for what I was doing, now I LMAO at tuners trying to pass me at the track, I'm not losing in the corners, I'm not losing in the straights, I must be just raping your ass LOL
Skyline's are nice though, I liked the STi and EVO's too, but Stang is just practical powerhouse.
it all depends on what kind of mustang... if you're talking about a GT than you're one of those idiots that think it's fast... if you're talking about an 03-04 cobras than i'll give you that
it looks like a HKS SuperSequential BOV. i used to have one on my old s13, doesnt sound pretty like a flutter valve but actually does the job its meant to do.
jus blok dat bigger blak pipe runnin out da otherside of ur bov(which leads to ur pod) n den ull get flutter at qtr boost but strait ppssshh at full boost..;)
yea you can and its more useful than ppl think. every time the pedal is dropped quickly it will blow. its a stress reliever for turbos. it releases compressor surge when the throttle slams shut. mainly for ball bearing turbos due to inertia but are used in others. a cbv is preferable for autos
Hey i have a BOV on my 1.8 turbo but i can only get the BOV sound when im switching gears or if i have boost goin and let off the gas.... how do you get the blow off to go off when you are in neutral or not moving... let me know thanks... NICE SOUND
wow, do u really not know how to rev the car from under the hood? u just find and pull on the throttle from under the hood. he was doing the same u do in ur car (rev it up then let off) he just not behind the wheel.
depends wot car ya got, i've got an audi 1.8t with a forge splitter valve on it. if i set the valve up 4 atmospheric, it still doesnt make the noise cause i've got the AUM engine.
yeh i got a 34 non turbo, waiting for DET swap out and rebuild, haha for the time being, my gf makes the blow of sound while i drive rofl...now that a custom blower ;)
u can have a fake BOV sound setup. i saw it on the internet the other day fr like 500 bucks. it times the sound with then engine so it sounds realistic... but it will not do shit. and ppl will call u ricer.
No. You have to have a turbocharger because of the boost that runs through the hose lines and through the intake. The blow off valve just releases the boost and then recirculates it to give it that whoosh sound.
Yes you can put one on, the gate wont open to allow the pressure to be released cause theres no pressure lol....so can open your hood and show everyone you have one, but when you drive and they ask why isnt it doing anything i guess you have to say its blocked or somethin haha.... :P I heard of fake ones, they put em on FWD's and weird ass cars that should never see the light of forced induction, thats as close as youd get, why you'd get one is beyond me...
you could get that sound on the skylines stock bov but youd have to be running higher rpm, that is with stock boost pressure..though you could pretty much put a Bov on any turbo car, any psi the only diffrence is its sound and when it releases.
the aftermarket ones can cause stalling, it depends on the car really, some stall... some don't... I personally prefur the recirc sound into my hks filter, but it's cool either way :)
uh... it has nothing to do with the power the motor is making. It has to do with the PSI that the turbo is making (depending on the turbo you will make different power at different psi, thus power is simply an irrelevant variable). I wouldn't trust any "stock dump valve" from nissan past 10 psi if you want to avoid boost leak. SSQ's are great for higher psi but tend to keep closed if under 12 or 11.
If we are talking near stock the R33 will smash the R31. The RB25 out powered & torqued the RB20. Or are you talking about the FJ20. Still, the result would be the same.
R32 was the car that changed Nissan's image for ever. Dont get me wrong, R31 wasn't a bad car but it was no R32 or R33.
Non return BOV on an A/F//Meter equippped RB25, Money spent for sound only, sounds good but don't need the puff of soot out exhaust on changes. Doesn't do much for economy either. The factory plumbed back for a reason other than noise.
Hks bov with fins ftw..

Strelitz50 3 years ago
it all depends on what kind of mustang... if you're talking about a GT than you're one of those idiots that think it's fast... if you're talking about an 03-04 cobras than i'll give you that

littlebike94 3 years ago
it looks like a HKS SuperSequential BOV. i used to have one on my old s13, doesnt sound pretty like a flutter valve but actually does the job its meant to do.

wow i feel sorry 4 u that is by far the stupidist shit ive ever read.
hayabusa789 3 years ago 2
yea you can and its more useful than ppl think. every time the pedal is dropped quickly it will blow. its a stress reliever for turbos. it releases compressor surge when the throttle slams shut. mainly for ball bearing turbos due to inertia but are used in others. a cbv is preferable for autos

wow, do u really not know how to rev the car from under the hood? u just find and pull on the throttle from under the hood. he was doing the same u do in ur car (rev it up then let off) he just not behind the wheel.
blaquknite63 3 years ago
depends wot car ya got, i've got an audi 1.8t with a forge splitter valve on it. if i set the valve up 4 atmospheric, it still doesnt make the noise cause i've got the AUM engine.

not a real one i dnt think
pafc2day 3 years ago
lol, of course no. technically you can but it wont do anything at all.
josieonetoothh 3 years ago
ahh.... so even if it doesnt do anything, it will still make the 'blow off' noise??
32165498765432165498 3 years ago
no, the valve open when the throttle body closes and the pressure has nowhere to go but out through the blow off.
josieonetoothh 3 years ago
u can have a fake BOV sound setup. i saw it on the internet the other day fr like 500 bucks. it times the sound with then engine so it sounds realistic... but it will not do shit. and ppl will call u ricer.
tristantao 3 years ago
I think you can. Just stick your head out the window of your car and when you change gear just make a loud whoosh sound!!!
biggboyfire 3 years ago
lol owned!
LightGray 3 years ago
No. You have to have a turbocharger because of the boost that runs through the hose lines and through the intake. The blow off valve just releases the boost and then recirculates it to give it that whoosh sound.
Scions4life 3 years ago
ah! thanx.
thats wot i wanted to know..
cheers!
32165498765432165498 3 years ago
Yes you can put one on, the gate wont open to allow the pressure to be released cause theres no pressure lol....so can open your hood and show everyone you have one, but when you drive and they ask why isnt it doing anything i guess you have to say its blocked or somethin haha.... :P I heard of fake ones, they put em on FWD's and weird ass cars that should never see the light of forced induction, thats as close as youd get, why you'd get one is beyond me...

someone can tell me what turbo is from the skyline of fast and the furious ???
please!
LuN4T1Ko 3 years ago
What? You mean what turbo they use??? IDk but its a HKS Blow off valve and thats why they sound so nice
Pigioto1 3 years ago
you could get that sound on the skylines stock bov but youd have to be running higher rpm, that is with stock boost pressure..though you could pretty much put a Bov on any turbo car, any psi the only diffrence is its sound and when it releases.
cebusupra 3 years ago
Stock?
supahas 3 years ago
that noise can be made with a stock BOV with just a good quailty air filter. As i have running on my r33.
gate13leader 3 years ago
motor sounds tight, so does BOV
kls023 3 years ago
400 bhp on a GTSt is about 1.2-1.3 bar on a t3/t4 sized turbo
the standard recirc is fine, upto this point many of the aftermarket no recirc blow off valves cause severe idling and running problems,
TBH if your going to run big horse power an external gate would be better and negate the need for a blow off valve in the first place,
mattbsierra 3 years ago
It is good♪^^
BOLUON 3 years ago
i love how pissed off the motor sounds.. sick =)
lovelyvendetta 4 years ago
IT'S r 33
pipiras07 4 years ago
the std recirc is good for 400 bhp ;)
the aftermarket ones can cause stalling, it depends on the car really, some stall... some don't... I personally prefur the recirc sound into my hks filter, but it's cool either way :)
mattbsierra 4 years ago
uh... it has nothing to do with the power the motor is making. It has to do with the PSI that the turbo is making (depending on the turbo you will make different power at different psi, thus power is simply an irrelevant variable). I wouldn't trust any "stock dump valve" from nissan past 10 psi if you want to avoid boost leak. SSQ's are great for higher psi but tend to keep closed if under 12 or 11.

rb25
jealous :D
wanna trade for my rb20
bahaha
props for recirc btw, i just cant bring myself to do it. i prefer stalling out in parking lots :D
mightyrocker 4 years ago
you only stall out if you set it incorrectly lol...
JgHaverty 4 years ago
hahahha...
dude no
no matter nicley you set it..
theres still a whole bunch of air leaking out that your ecu doesent know about.
mightyrocker 4 years ago
that bov is recirculated, whether its stock or not idk, but its definitely recirculated
XIevolutionIX 4 years ago
If we are talking near stock the R33 will smash the R31. The RB25 out powered & torqued the RB20. Or are you talking about the FJ20. Still, the result would be the same.
R32 was the car that changed Nissan's image for ever. Dont get me wrong, R31 wasn't a bad car but it was no R32 or R33.
blyndrotor 4 years ago
Non return BOV on an A/F//Meter equippped RB25, Money spent for sound only, sounds good but don't need the puff of soot out exhaust on changes. Doesn't do much for economy either. The factory plumbed back for a reason other than noise.
blyndrotor 4 years ago
my m8 had an R31.. SOCH 2L turbo manual.. i know that R31's came out in 2L's and 3L's.. so unless ur R31 is 3L turbo then this would rape u!
