@snipe1963 It's on the Snakes and Arrows MVI. It was a special edition of S&A released about a month after the regular cd. The high resolution stereo and 5.1 mixes of the album are on there too (which both sound awesome) and several other little things, it's basically a dvd. Search for "Snakes and Arrows MVI". It was intended to be a limited edition so new copies are much more expensive now than when it was new. See the Amazon listing for all the content on it. Good luck!
I must have listened to this album hundreds of times. I even now run to this and BU2B/Caravan and I still feel the excitement and energy listening to them as I did when I first 'got' each song. I just can't stop being amazed.
I grew up in an environment where everyone it seems got drunk, high, raised hell, and were just everyday irresponsible douches or criminals. I got caught up in some of that when I was younger but decided I wanted to be better. If only I lived around some people with a sense of morality and structure.
Hey you, who live in USA, Canada or any country with English as mother language, please tell me what things Alex said at 04:24 and they all started to laugh a lot (I love this part! eheheh). Thank you and hugs from Brazil.
that "when the wind blows" drumpart at the end is not quite the one that ended up on the album, no? i like this one here better. more hits on the snare here. but maybe the difference is only a mixing thing.
Limitations??? Give Geddy a rubber band, Neil a plastic 5 gallon bucket and Alex a strong piece of fishing line.....and they'll make an awesome song with just those items.
Kudos to Nick for being brave enough to go to a legend like Neil and telling him that The Way The Wind Blows parts he had worked on weren't good enough. Kudos also to Neil for being willing to go back and work on them until he got it right. Amazing how much better the song jams with the re-worked parts.
If you watch the part at 6:37 you get a good idea of what Neil was playing in those parts that got replaced. Just shows how the drums can transform a song.
lol, I've been a rush fan for the past thirty three years since i was thirteen. and i tell ya, they just keep getting better and better every time i see them.
they are so incredible together. and so funny lol. from what i have heard Neil say, Alex is the real clown of the group, and as you can see, has kept Neil busting up like that for almost forty years :]
at least we didn't have to see lifeson in his underwear when he was sitting at his computer in his room in the middle of the night. scaaaaarrrrrrrrrrry.
This is why these three are still able to make music after all this time. Who they are transcends the music. And now that I've seen "Boosh" (?), they really need to keep this guy! He's like one of us AND a producer, too. That fact that's he's a fan seems to make him a better producer for the band.
I was not aware that I was being a stick in the mud, in any way. If I was, I apologize. I meant what I said to be in good humor, poking fun at Alex for being the crazy boy that he is. :p
When it comes to Rush, I certainly am NOT a stick in the mud! ^_^ I'm obsessed with them, and love each member fanatically. Like Geddy has said, "Alex is the funniest man you'll ever meet in your life." :3
@EntustinMeYourLife So the indignant little "male species" comment was really uplifting toward Alex (& the rest of us "male species" for that matter) & his brand of humor?! Followed by the cynical little ^_^ face? Crazy "boy?" Are you a manhater? Is every guy who enjoys a little "toilet humor" just a "boy" to you? Toilet humor, while on the whole is much overused,is usually inserted just at the right time by guys like Alex. You don't seem to understand the diff. with sardonic comments like that.
Woah...Please, take no offense to anything I've said. I understand the difference. Believe me, I am not a manhater. Especially not toward Geddy, Neil and especially not Alex. I did not mean to insult you, rafro007. Pardon me.
I certainly enjoy "toilet humor," myself, so I have no room to look at guys as "boys" since I have a similar sense of humor. I may be female, I do not look down upon the male species. You are right: Alex used that at just the right time, and it was quite something. :)
Gotta admire Nick for challenging a drum giant like Peart to totally change 4 verses he had worked on for months. The finished parts really add a major kick to the song.
it's amazing that despite being so structured they still have the desire to just "jam" after hours of recording. Just one more reason why I think they're one of the best rock bands to ever play.
The last part of this video is the best part of the whole making of S&A video. Having Neil go back in and make a change to what he had been working for weeks on. To his credit, Neil admitted that the changes requested by Raskulinecz were appropriate and made the song much better.
Perhaps it's due to editing, but you never see these guys pissed off while recording or at any other time. Just three good friends doing what they love. Amazing. That is a rare combination for such a long period of time.
If you like to know Neil Peart better, buy his book - Traveling Music -. When he talks about his musical influences and his life in general. Fantastic!
I'd just like to say how amazing it is to see how close they are! I mean they're just 3 good friends making music and there loving every second of it. Neil your my idol!
Who knows, really. I think they'll do one more. I recently read somewhere they were in the writing process and about to record this summer. It all depends on how they feel. I think they've got at least another one in 'em.
Yet again, thankyou! It's great to see them enjoying themselves so much. Rush deserve every recognition of being master musicians and rock gods of the intelligent type.
Its great to see Neil being able to really laugh after the tragedy he went through. I think making albums and touring is therapeutic for him and it may even be the case that Geddy and Alex weren't crazy about remaining so prolific but because of what happened this would help Neil out.
Wife and daughter died very closely, almost marked the end of the band. I believe the first album they recorded after that was Vapor Trails, so Neil had quite some time off to try and recover from it. Poor guy
Yeah, that's just the appalachian mountains for you. ged and neil are just so awesome, they are so laid back. alex was so serious during the photo session. i think that he had a problem earlier. that's all i think.
geddyleesangel101, what do the Appalachians have to do with this? They were working at a place in the Adirondacks. Alex was serious during the photo session? He was? Really?
I love it! So much of Rush's great songs come from the bond and friendship they share. The Game of Snakes and Arrows definitely proves the fact that being the great friends that they are allow them to produce great albums like Snakes and Arrows.
