Is it safe to say that many of the German soldiers who fought during WWII weren't all fighting for the Nazis and Hitler so much as they were fighting for the Fatherland?
Thank you for the Anderson original, amico mio! That's what I was looking for! I am quite aware of the Spitzel system of the nazis, having lived in Hungary during the hated communist Rákosi-regime for the first 17 yrs. of my life and experiencing the same.To crack a "political" joke, one looked over both shoulders, then asked: "érted a politikai vicceket?"
@gallferi:None of the Hitler parodies of this German song are "reworked versions" of post war poets, they were actually circulating among adversaries of the Nazi Regime in Germany, especially during the war. Goebbels had an own department in his ministry where the latest jokes where reported + collected - lucky the person who was not caught+made responsible for one of most biting.Spies were often in pubs so that people concentrated on the coziness of their homes together with well known friends.

Thanks for uploading this great song. I first heard it in a documentary about the German army (Wehrmacht ) in WWII. Whatever your politics (I'm not a Nazi supporter) you just have to admire the German army of WWII. Not only their army was generations ahead but so too was their engineers and scientists
@sohnes 'same goes for the atrocities'? Remember that the English invented anti semitism in King Edward I Statute of the Jewry . The first to force them to wear a yellow felt star on their clothing. They burned them alive on occasion. Also the English were the first to have concentration camps in the Boer war.
Im Leben Geht Alles Vorueber = In life all things come to an end. This is the song referred to on page 191 of David Kahn's brilliant 1991 book "Seizing the Enigma".
After a lifetime of reflection here's how I see it.:England and France were in a "phony war" in 1940 with an enemy they weren't really strong enough or sufficiently prepared to fight, yet they had to posture as strong. Their own populations were divided as well. Countries like Belgium needed to be "sacrificed", or "thrown under the bus", just to show that the problem and enemy is real and something has to be done.
Thank you for your reply. England and France sacrificed Belgium just as Czechoslovakia was sacrificed. I think that King Leopold tried to save the Belgian people from suffering what they had suffered in the first world war, I know that the Belgian underground was superb. They saved my father;s cousins life. He was shot down over Waterloo on 29 JAN 1944. Anne Bruselleman had helped him along with many others, I'm ashamed that the U.S. government treated her so badly.
@neptunisregis11 Churchill said it right. Tossing a small nation to the wolves will not bring peace. Chamberlain chose dishoner over war and got both.
This song is wonderfull... if jews like it or not is not important at all; this jews are living in the phantsies of the past... they have not sense for rality thei are jailed in a unhealthy mental prison and others have the kee...
To be a Jew or not, it is not important to like this song ... it is a no-political song, just a good german song.
I am a French speaker from Belgium (we were invaded twice by Germans during WW1 and WW2) and I like german culture altough they murdered several members of my family since many years
I am under the impression, that one part of Belgium speaks French and is ethnically and culturally French, and the other part are called "Walloons", speak Dutch and are ethnically and culturally Dutch. Is this a false impression?
You are wrong ( only a little bit) : one part of Belgium which speaks French (about 4,5 millions people) is called " Wallons". These people have got french culture but are the sons of Roman people who contoled the country in the Antiquity. The other part of Belgium inhabitants are the people who live in the " Flanders" (about 6 millions inhabitants). They are culturally German and speak a language which is almost the same that the german language, it is Dutch.
Thank you for the correction. My Father's cousin was shot down in a B-24 over Waterloo on 29 January 1944 and was hidden by the resistance until September 1944. I asked him if France had invaded through Belgium in WWi to "get the jump" on the Germans would the Belgians have resisted? He said that he didin't know, that wasn't his war. It was his father's war.His father was in the American Rainbow Division in WWI and was somewhere in Germany after the war. He liked the German people.
During WWI, Belgian people resisted : the battlefield was in Flanders, near the river Yser in the extrem west of the country (several members of my flemish family died there fighting with French and English soldiers against Germans). And I add also that German people treated Belgian people very bad at WWI ,burning faculties and churches : the consequence was that Belgian partisans took weapon against Germans everywhere in the country (mainly in the Bulge).
Thank you for your reply. I saw on TV a concert with Andre Rieu, I liked his music and bought a 2 CD pack. I suppose the Dutch speaking Belgians probably like his music as well.
I think that I should rephrase the question. I was aware that the Belgians resisted the German advance in WWI. I had asked my fathers cousin A WWII veteran who being shot down in Belgium and spending time there a question concerning what might have happened in Belgium in WWI. He told me that WWI was his fathers war. I asked him this question because I was under the impression that Germany , France , and England had guaranteed Belgian neutrality in perpetuity .
Indeed, before the war, Germany guaranteed the neutrality of Belgium but, with Schlieffen Plan, Germany was forced to occupate Belgium to fight France on itself frontier ; Kaiser Wilhem II knew that Albert I would had refused to give the permission to german troops to cross its territory because Albert I wanted that the great powers of Europe respect the integrity of the national frontiers of Belgium (if France had occupated Belgium to fight Germany, Albert would had declared war to France too)
I had read that Germany issued an ultimatum to Belgium demanding free passage through Belgium. Since everyon e knew that the Germans were coming why didn't the French and British come into Belgium first instead of waiting for the Germans to attack? Why did the French and British make the Belgians suffer the main German Attack. Couldn't they have saved Belgian lives and property?
At this time,Germany had got an old military tradition but not France and England : Germany was ready to invade France but French and English soldiers weren't ready to invade Germany. And I add also that Schlieffen Plan had for objective a quick war so Germany needed to be first to attack to win war. France and England thought that it would be a war which would happen on the germano-french frontier, but they didn't think that Germany had intention to wrap them by Belgium
The tragedy of the innocent victims of Treblinka, Sobibor and Auschwitz has NOTHING to do with what is happening in Israel today.Nobody did someting for the jews in the period of WW II.Let it be clear... what happened today in Israel is something else. In Israel no wagonload of Palestinian people are gassed!Yes... what happened there is not okay. But that is a different case.We are talking about 1941-1944
"Nobody did someting for the jews in the period of WW II." No, they just fought World War II! And what about the "righteous Gentiles" who hid thousands of Jews at the risk of their own lives? I did not mention the Palestinians; I DID allude to the thousands of Slavic girls who are lured, coerced or kidnapped every year, often by the Jewish mafia, and sent to die a much slower death in Israel than the gas chamber victims did. You care ONLY about Jewish victims, don't you? "Fuck the goyim!"

"The shadows of 700.000/ 870.000 Jews from treblinka are watching you while listening."
Are they watching the sons and grandsons of Holocaust survivors and victims commit rape today in the sex slave brothels of Israel? There is good and evil in every tribe; don't pretend that Jews are incapable of evil. And the SS in the camps also listened to Mozart and Schubert: should we stop listening to them, too?

Auf Posten in einsamer Nacht,

und Dein Herz, das denkt ganz still an sich :
"Dahin ziehe einmal auch ich."
