its a insult to modern technology... the titanic sank without a sonar or GPS or radar... concordia simply had a remarkably dull captain who hesitated to act when the ship was in a state of emergency
There are alot of Similarities between the Titanic Disaster and this one, even though it wasn't Exactly the same...This one hits a Rock...Titanic hit an Iceberg...Chaos, Confusion with both disasters...No one knows Exactly what happened down to every small detail on either Disasters...And yes, even with today's Technology...It still happened...And almost 100 years apart!
100 years after the Titanic disaster another error in judgement, cautionary tale that human negligence and arrogance has not changed after all this time. These modern ships are equipped with State of the Art computer navigation systems and GPS, they can practically navigate themselves, the fact that this incident happened is inexcusable, someone has a lot of explaining to do.
Navigational electronics failure or poor judgement on the captain's part? That remains to be seen. I find it hard to believe that a vessel of this size and sophistication could run aground and capsize in this day and age. Alas for the loss of life and the three quarters of a billion capital loss.
"Hurray" for the people that did what they had to do to survive and "Hurray" for the rapid response of the Italian Coast Guard!
