  • I had a Tori XL Light but I sold it. Very awesome Katana though.

  • @Revan9729, also, how long did it take you to be able to perform as excellent as you did in this video?

  • You should check it out. They have prices from under one hundred to over two thousand. I hear good things about that place, and I was trying to see if anybody has ordered from there like you.

  • @Revan9729, I assume you've ordered from "Japanese Swords 4 Samurai"?

  • @AncientBlitzkrieg Umm..no i never heard of that shop before, i think i got mine on ebay, not sure though,it was a long time ago.

  • @Revan9729 I am interested in a variety of blades, but what really catches my eye is what you are using in your video. Also, in the video where you had shown your katana (and other weapons) collection. Would you mind sharing where you obtained those blades?

  • @AncientBlitzkrieg In this and most of my other videos I'm using Hanwei's practical plus xl katana,i changed all the koshirae so it looks a bit different.

Great sword for cutting,it's pretty cheap and koshirae ain't much, but you can always change those.

As for my other swords i bought those mostly on auctions, some i got on e-bay,some are from shops...

I'd recommend checking out swordnarmory, specifically their munetoshi line, they got some very nice swords.

  • Where does one obtain high quality weaponry such as the fine examples that you own?

  • @AncientBlitzkrieg Depends,what are you interested in,Nihonto or modern blades ?

  • Your cuts are amazing!

Have you been trained in a dojo, or learned by watching?

  • @HaxUnPeu Thanks,I'm mostly self thought,a friend of mine opened a dojo few years ago,It's pretty far from where i live but i try to be there at least once a month.

  • @Revan9729 That is even more amazing then! I mean I just watch the first two cuts in this video, and the tatami mat is not moving at all!

    Very well done!

  • waw man this is amazing, does it take long to master a fine sword like the katana?

  • @rob360hk Yes it does,but i am by no means a master,not even close.

  • Nice cutting, I like how on your first cut, gyaku kesa giri, the tatami omote doesn't even know it has been cut and just sits there waiting for your second cut, yoko giri. Do you study batto or iaido?

  • Thanks,yes i do.

  • die oberen sind nur gelegt voll dei verarsche !

  • Best cutter on youtube i am very impressed :)

I apologies but I have to ask you about your opinion in 2 very different katanas, I have been looking for about 4 months into buying a katana bt i cnt handle any of them to decide better as there are no shops near by.

I was thinking of Hanwei Bushido Vs Cheness SGC.. am not sure if all the money goes on pretty in bushido and i have heard the 9260 steel doesnt hold an edge well + very bad fitting..if u had to own one for cutting what would it be?

  • For cutting ? most definitely one from SGC. series, they have a much broader and somewhat thinner blade, which besides the geometry itself, are the two most important things when it comes to cutting.Hanwei Bushido is a beautiful sword, it has great koshirae, but it's blade is very narrow which makes it track poorly in the cut.

Moreover i believe it's about twice as much expensive as the SGC katana.

  • @Revan9729 Thanks a lot :) what about for say going back in time and stepping into a battle by chance :P (not talking about perfect cuts are made now, but how well they will endure in a battle?)

Just curious trying to make as informed decision as i can, you see i never heard of this powder steel they use so i do not know how much it can handle or how long it can hold an edge for?

the money is not a problem for me in this range, just want something that i will keep & use forever :)

  • I honestly don't know,i never used a powder steel blade for a long period of time so i really couldn't tell you.If you got some money to spend and you really want a tough blade,I'd recommend getting a custom,Pavel Bolf makes awesome blades and his prices are pretty low,you can get a blade in arato polish for around 400 bucks.

  • @Revan9729 Thanks i will surely check him out as i have not heard that name before.

:) I really appreciate this, so thanks again.

  • Wow out of everyone on youtube you are by far the best at cutting tatami mats. Great swordsmanship. Do you sharpen your own swords? I'm amazed at how sharp your sword is. Cutting tatami and it staying so still as it did. Lastly may I asked which sword you are using?

  • Thank you,in this vid I'm using my remounted Practical XL katana from hanwei, and yes i do polish/sharpen my own blades.

But the sharpness is not the most important thing when it comes to cutting, geometry of the blade is much more important.

  • @Revan9729 To that I agree. Is there any tips you can give me on sharpening swords? The reason I ask is I have a rosewood Shirasaya by Musashi and I tried it out on a bottle of water, not only did the bottle of water go flying it also cracked the sword's handle in two spots due to it not being sharpened good as I found out afterwards.

  • First thing i'd like to mention is that the purpose of shirasaya is just to store the blade,in other words you shouldn't be using a blade in shirasaya for cutting practice.

If the bottle just flew away that usually means that the blade is not sharpened correctly, check the edge of the blade,if it looks like it's been sharpened with accusharp, like most knives are sharpened nowadays, you won't be be able to cut anything with that blade. If you want to use this blade for cutting you should get cont..

  • a low grit stone and shape the blade properly, the edge shouldn't just stop few millimeters above the ha, it should continue all the way to the shinogi/bo-hi.

After you do that you should mount the blade if you want to use for cutting.

But if you want my honest opinion, i'd suggest you save a 2-3 hundred bucks and buy a proper blade for cutting, any hanwei sword from practical or raptor line will do just fine for that purpose.

  • @Revan9729 Yeah I was planning to do that, cause I know shirasaya's are just for storing the blade just thought I'd try the sharpness out but it failed. Yeah the only thing it cuts is paper, the point looks hand sharpend I had accidentally cut a cushion on my chair when I first got it. But yeah I'll makes sure the next blade I get is a Hanwei sword. Thanks alot for the advice. Looking forward to more vids.
