I should have realized SEPTA had a website, also that they never would have torn down the Frankford line. I've lived in Cumberland Couty since 1987 and no longer have any family in the Delaware-Philadelphia Conty are, so I have no reason to go back to that area. I was last there for Dad's funeral in Trainor (2006). The area has gotten too grown up, much more so than it was back in the early seventies when I last lived there.
@bruce8420 Huh? Have you bothered looking at the Septa website at all? I haven't been to Europe but I bet I can tell you what class train cars they use on the LU by doing some research. The Frankford El exists, it was rebuilt in place like the whole line been but its still there.
@mareobasbankz123 Confused at what you mean? They were doing the station is segments, they closed and took down one half of the platform to put up the new one, but to keep the station in service, they extended the platforms temporally.
@bruce8420 Once upon a time, it was more elevated then subway. Beyond the point, I preferred the 69th st side because of original construction still in use where as the Frankford side got rid of theirs even though they do use the same middle piers to hold up the tracks.
I wonder if anyone out there filmed the ride on the temporary track built during the construction of I-95? It was made mostly of wood and rose high above the already elevated roadway construction at Spring Garden street where the wind would rock it from side to side. At rush hour it was like riding in a crowded roller-coaster.
To the comment below me, The Blue Line use to have signals though out the line every so many feet like the Orange and Green Line, but the ATC remote allows the train to drive a certain speed overall equivalent to Metro DC, They can't share because the tracks and third rail are different, Sub is standard and the EL is different wider track and upper level third wheel. To be honest before the ATC the trains ran better, faster less slow speed, and the M3 was great except no AC or Announcements.
i always wondered about this...notice how there arent that many signals on the line....and secondly just for kicks what would it be like if the mfl and bsl where all one line...could it work?
2) no for two reasons: the track gauges are different between the two; their third rails and the trains' shoes are physically and electrically incompatible.
None of the red part is there anymore. Most of the stations and right of way are new. Millbourne is reopened 63rd is the last to be closed and rebuilt.
The steel structure(red part) has all been replaced, including stations, it's all new, nothing old remained. Only 69th St is the last of the original MFL sadly.
A fact that really annoyed me, they could have saved that section for a little bit of history. The main reason why they did not salvage any of this elevated because of it's design, the supports run straight down, and they were in the middle of the street, The Frankford end of the elevated was built between 1913 and 1921, the structural supports extend to the curbs and in one stretch between Church st. and Bridge it has center supports, they salvaged those, I saw them restore that stretch in 1993
Neither have anything in common as far as I know. The station was built for the neighborhood in exchange for passing through it to 69th St. At least to my knowledge anyways, it could be slightly wrong, but the station and Sears have nothing to do with each other. In fact, Milbourne has already been rebuilt.
Glad you like the video. As far as I understand, no it's not finished yet. Then again I haven't been down there in a good bit. College caught up with me now and all.

i've ridden this from Bridge and Pratt in Frankford all the way out to 69th Street. It's subway in Center City, then elevated again in Frankford.

If you noticed, they were still building the station. All the stations closed on the Market St side at one point or another to be rebuilt.

Much appreciated.

i like this train model because passengers can see the tracks from a driver's point of view.
timosha21 1 year ago
A bit short on passengers on the platforms. 8 car trains? People want mass transit so everyone else will ride it.

1) the MFL uses cab signals.
2) no for two reasons: the track gauges are different between the two; their third rails and the trains' shoes are physically and electrically incompatible.
