hunting is not a sport. its the murder of defenseless animals with a deadly weapon. if you want to prove your manliness drop the weapon and find an opponent who is aware there is a fight happening in the 1st place. maybe we should stick all these hunters in a cage and see who really is the best hunter

@breener24 While I agree that hunting is not a sport, the animals are far from defenseless and unaware. I will take elk as an example because I hunt them. Once hunting season starts the elk may as well not exist because they move over to private land where we can't touch them. They intelligently move to where they know is safe. The only elk that I have shot were young and inexperienced. I have gotten close enough to shot mature ones, but it took three hours of hiking and they bolted.

But in all seriousness, you act like these animals have no idea what they are doing, which is completely wrong. This is more just a show of comparison, but have you considered the natural deaths of elk?...

@telemarker93 Let's take wolves as an example (I completely support their reintroduction into the Rocky Mountain west BTW). Wolves hunt in coordinated packs that single out one elk, generally a weak or young one, and separate it from its herd. They then proceed to tear through the ligaments and tendons in the haunches of the elk, crippling it. One wolf then latches onto the elk's throat and drags it to the ground. The elk is then fed upon while it is still alive and it dies from hypovolemic...

@telemarker93 shock. Compare this to one round fired from a rifle moving at up to 2,000 ft per second. The bullet will tear through the animal in milliseconds and if the hunter knows what he is doing, the bullet will have caused massive trauma to the heart causing cardiac failure. The brain will lose O2 and shut down. This entire process takes aprox. 3min while the wolves take up to 3 hours to wear down their prey.

@breener24 Have you ever seen where elk live? Shots are almost impossible to get through the Quakies or dark timber. They also move out of known danger areas when they get too hot. What about the first paragraph doesn't make sense?

@telemarker93 just because theyre hard to find doesnt mean they can defend themselves. if some guy is trying to kidnap a little girl and has too look hard around a house for her it doesnt mean she can defend herself. it takes a real douchy person to find pleasure in murdering defensless animals. like i said if hunters want to be tough then put down the gun and get an equal opponent.

@breener24 Have you ever heard of the quote "the best armor is staying out of range"? That is how elk work, they will move to private land or into dark timber where they can't be shot.

While I can see your point of view, I see it as being too all-encompassing. I hunt for food, my family has seven members and shooting an elk saves a couple thousand dollars in meat. I also don't think you realize that hunting is the main revenue that the DoW gets to maintain wilderness areas.

@telemarker93 ok ill empathize with you here and say that i think hunting is ok if it is for food. the problem i have is the people who go out. kill a deer, take the antlers and stick it on a wall just for "sport". and maybe i misspoke when i said "defenseless". perhaps a better way to put it is incapable of fighting back.
