  • how did you separate the land from the water and what did you use to do so?

  • Does the fog help with humidity?

  • u should get a couple guppies and a mud skipper because mudskippers need brackish and guppies can live in it too so the water needs to be brackish for a mudskipper.

  • how you divided the watter from the earth?

  • what'd you use for the bottom? looks like foam, but idk

  • yeah german :D

  • I think I bought your red eye tree frog from you last year lol. I did a similar setup for him now except it's been done in a 18x18x24 exo terra. Have live plants and a waterfall with live moss on the bottom of the tank. Have a fogger in there also but I think it's starting to crap out.

  • this is scary that this is your first build....looks amazing even compared to your new stuff

  • wow...

  • hey what do u use to hold the water plexi glaas and silicone and sick tank

  • mad channel sub back

  • the air plants technical name is Tillandsia :D just letting u know.

  • amazing work!

  • @RaffleReefer10 lol thanks, but check out my newer tank...Makes this one look like child's play.

  • how do u sperate the water and land

  • @jgrimmier why do feel that way? The equipment you mean , or you werent happy with the layout?

  • @evowake Everything. First tanks suck for everyone.

  • @Jgrimmier In any case you have a talent for this stuff man. Nice work. I'm curious, once set up, how long can a viv like this be sustained? I am accustomed to a reef aquarium that can more or less be kept indefinitely. Is there a particular timeframe after which these things need to be more or less re-built, or if done correctly, is it sustainable like a reef?

Thanks man! Other vids are awesome

  • Beautiful setup dude, I've been keeping reef aquariums for some time and am going to be building a viv. Definitely going to model mine off of yours! If you have any tips on how you constructed your backdrop or can point me to books / webpages you read I'd really appreciate it! Nice!

  • @evowake This old tanks sucks. That a look at my newer videos and check in the description boxes for helpful thread links.

  • IDK what that is buts its pretty cool i like it lol (:

  • I have that same filter, does it work well for you? I have it in a 10 gal viv with firebelly toads

  • What did you use to make the background? what's holding the pots to the wall. Pls let me know as I'm going to start on 1 of these.

  • What did you use to make the background? what's holding the pots to the wall. Pls let me know as I'm going to start on 1 of these.

  • baby tears???

  • WOW that is amazing

  • This is such a nice setup, i wish i had HALF the creativity.. im going to try soon..

  • is that water fall

  • are those things in the wall bowls...awesom tank!

  • @MrPlanetcole They are little plant pots.

  • is an 18x18x18 exo terra or zoomed vivarium big enough for 2 bumblebee dart frogs?

  • Your tank is da bomb!!!! where did u get the zebra plant.

  • which fogger do you use (ie company)

  • his name is ted LOL dude your video kicks ass...it helps me alot! i have 2 red eye tree frogs and 2 anoles im not sure if i can distinguish their sex...you dont mind helping me out and if anything im interested if you can help me out if you dont mind?

  • how mutch would all of that stuff cost without the terrarium

  • Hey how did u get ur water so clear because my water is real murky looking and you can see through it can you please help

  • Hey thanks for replying your one of the view people on youtube that actually answer my questions. And your also very talented at creating extremely awesomes vivariums!!! Also where did you get the sand. Can i get it from petsmart or home depot because thats really the only two places i can get it so thanks a lot!!!

  • What kind of sand is that

  • @sethy587 White...Lol

Seriously though, it was pre cycled aquarium sand.

  • hey man! that vivarium looks like a pro made it!

i think it was really nice!

    great work!

  • for that bottom pot you should totally put a waterfall

  • do u think u could make a vid of how to make that "fog fall" (the fog falling down lookin like a water fall). it looks super cool but ive got no clue how to do it!!

  • What brand\model fogger, and where did you purchase it? Thanks!

  • How did you separate the ater from the land?

  • Hey can u make me one exactly like this i will buy it

  • @sethy587 Private message me if you are serious. I build custom backgrounds for people all the time.

  • best tank ive seen

  • @AJunboxings Haha thanks. Now that I look back at it, I HATE IT! lol

  • Comment removed

  • @jgrimmier Yeah, you got a lot better, yet it's pretty nice!

  • How can u clean a tank like that

  • #AWESOME

  • holy shit

  • how do u seprate the water from the land

  • Dude, nice tank anyway i checked and no one asked for the plant. So,if u still haveit i'll take it.You can get back to me

  • god this is a realy good tank i love it

  • How do you clean your tank with all that stuff in there? Or is cleaning even necessary?

  • @nybombs This tank has been torn apart and sold, but cleaning wasnt to bad. The water section was the biggest pain to clean.

  • Where did you find black and brown silicone that was safe for your vivarium? Did you use the black silicone on the glass prior to applying the GS foam? I love the setup. I am in the process of converting a 110 gallon reef aquarium into a vivarium/orchidarium. I am using your setup as a jumping point, any suggestions. Thanks

  • @drich2001 I used GE Silicone 1 and 2, one is 100% safe for sure, and 2 is also, however it need a lot longer to dry and cure...Over 2 weeks prefferably. And yes silicone on the glass before GS to hide it. I wouldnt recommend the silicone/coco method to you however. It flakes and falls apart quickly. Try looking at some more of my videos and tanks for different methods and inspiration :)

  • @TheMooseSpeeks Lots lol, close to 1200 or something. But since this was my 1st build I wasted a lot and purchased from expensive stores because I didnt know where the best places to shop were.

  • wat is the size of the cage plzzz reply back

  • @rangepkler 36x18x24"

  • I really admire you tank man. How did you make your pond?

  • @PhranklinB Just a bunch of foam as the devider, covered in silicone.

  • i wouldnt put a pitcher plant in there the frog could fall in

  • One more question: Is the background part hand made by yourself or did you buy it at the pet store? it looks really nice. I'm trying to find something similar since I will be making a vivarium for my firebelly toads. Thanks in advance.

  • @HoodSquirrel Everything execpt for the glass is made by myself. Thanks for the compliment. Check out my other vids for other projects I have made.

  • What kind of mister is that being used?

  • @HoodSquirrel It broke about a month after I posted this video, so I dont recall the name. I wouldnt recommend any "puck" style misters to anyone.

  • sweet setup! wats the fog thing called?

  • @caiocrz It broke about a month after I posted this video, so I dont recall the name. I wouldnt recommend any "puck" style misters to anyone.

  • can you hold frogs in you hand because i was thinking you cant because of there skin

  • one more question.. :) @jgrimmier: did you order this? I've been looking for one this size and can't seem to find one even online, if so where did you order it from or get it from?

  • @Nicksteen Nope, found it used on kijiji. They can be found in most pet stores though.

  • Thanks! This is one of the better backgrounds I've seen (craftsmanship etc..) so by the shoreline is the Expandifoam covered with the black silicon then the clear silicon sealant??

  • @Nicksteen No clear silicone, just black.

  • get rid of that pothos!

  • @nophwa If you notice my other videos, I'm getting rid of the entire tank lol. But yes it grows fast and needs lots of trimming. Its my RETF's favorite plant though so I would never take it out.

  • and.. what kind if filter is that in the water? i've never been able to find a small shallow water filter ?

  • what is the shore made of? is that aquarium safe black caulking?

  • @Nicksteen It is the same GS foam, covered in silicone.

And it is a Zoo Med 318 turtle filter. Works pretty good!

  • I love that cage I have a question do tree frogs need to swim

  • i love ur tank XD its so awesome

  • i have an exoterra and some tree frogs in it and i am really considering once all my exams are over to do some upgrading for the tank i was just wondering how to made the land 50% and water 50%

  • @GBAPCLAN just google "grimm's vivarium build" and look through my build thread

  • @jgrimmier cheers man its great of you to repsond to peoples need. awesome setup !!

what kind of fish might you be putting in?

  • @GBAPCLAN

If you check out my channel I have an updated video of this tank also. Currently I have 4 guppies, 4 cardinal neon tetras, 3 algea eating shrimp, and a few different snails. I also added another tree frog.

  • i just got my exo terra tank and i am going to try and replicater yours or something like it. Thanks for the idea!

  • @Vivlover1 Cool man thanks for the comments...If you wanna check out a full build thread just google "Grimm's Vivarium Build" I have pictures on there from the beginning.

  • @jgrimmier

im so pisst because my dad isnt letting me make in my exo terrra tank so i am going to have to make in my crappy normal fish tank. :(

  • lucky ted!!! i like this alot!! 5 stars!

  • NICE DUDE! haha thats sick. im creating a video on how to make a vivarium and ill make a video response. Im using umbrella plants and lava rocks too! haha

  • hey nice vivarium. can you post the instructions on how to make this vivarium or a vivaium like this?

  • Can you please tell me how to make this vivarium or a vivarium that looks like this?

  • thats a sweet vivarium!

  • wat subtraute did u use

  • @AlbertoMuse I used a layer of drainage rock, followed by a brick of that expanding substrate. its similar to the co-co fiber bricks except it has other naturals added to make it better for plant growth.

  • isn't a mudskipper a brackish water fish?

  • @MalliaCamilleri

Yeah but the aquarium shop by my place keeps them in freshwater and they are doing great. I didnt end up getting mudskippers anyways, in my update video I show that I just have some neons, guppies, shrimp and snails.

  • @jgrimmier

can you write some instuctions on how to make this vivarium or something like this vivarium

  • Vnice vivarium! Could you please tell me how you made that false bottom. How did you seperate land and water and how is the waterfall made :O? so many questions haha

  • @WeeGeetible @WeeGeetible No false bottom in this tank, just a land/water separator using foam nd silicone. For the waterfall i just ran a hose inside the foam up to the top cave, If you want a full build go to vivariumforums com and with the search bar look for "grimm's vivarium build" I have a bunch of detailed photos of the build on that site.

    Thanks for lookin' :)

  • wen ur frog sees the new tank shes gonna be like holy**** sorry for bad spelling

  • lol yeah he likes his tank...He definately has a few favorite sleeping spots around the tank...Now if only he could pick a consistent spot to take a shit!

If I ever get some motivation I'll post a video of what it currently looks like. Ill probably just wait till rite before I fix the tank tho.

  • Is it just the foam in the back? If so how do u keep the foam from falling

  • Silicone the glass fist...Then foam...Then silicone with co-co stuck to it....The foam and silicone will make a very strong bond with the glass as far as I have experienced....That big piece of driftwood was probably 5-7 pounds and it hasnt budged at all.

  • Dude...amazing tank. How and what did you use for the back?

  • How much did the tank itself cost?

  • View comment below...280$ used

  • oh, well anyways really nice vivarium!

  • how much did everything cost you ?

  • Used tank and extras - 280$ Pump - 40$ Filter - 35$ Fogger - 35$ Lighting (new lights not in video) - 160$ Silicone - 50$ Foam - 30$ Extras (tubing, pots, andextra stuff) 40$ Plants - 150$ Gravel/Sand/Lava Rocks/Driftwood - 60$ Frog - 35$ Fish ect...- 40$ So the grand total is about 955$....+50 hours of work!
  • thats an amazing tank! i've never actually made a tank with like silicone and greatstuff, but im not so sure its a good idea to put a pitcher plant in there with a small frog..... and i thought that mudskippers were territorial.

  • I actually didnt get a mudskipper as they need slightly salted water.

And my pitcher plants arent nearly big enough to cause a threat to my frog..They cant even trap small crickets yet haha... For a Tree frog to get traped the pitcher would need to be huge!

  • That's actually amazing!

  • ay i just made a youtube account you have inspired me how do you make the background i made a tank for my frogs and i need a little assistants

  • Yeah I'm actually starting the siliconing process on the new one tomorrow...Its exactly 1/2 the size of mine, and instead of a waterfall there will be a slow running stream to allow for plenty of moss growth.

  • Like looking into a Mini-Jungle, And I agree I siphon my fish tanks water out and 4/5 times i get some in my mouth.

Will you be making another one with a Different design ?

  • Looks fantastic!! Starting my first big vivarium project this week and you've completely changed my mind on how I want my waterfall. Can't wait to see it completely finished with your Red Eye, and please let me/us know the "do's and don't." That'd be incredibly helpful. Thanks, and GREAT JOB!!!

  • @mikerauch

    Thanks for the compliments :)

I've been getting ready to make another Viv for a "costomer" so I havent made anothere video quite yet.

But for now I'll give you a few do's and dont's

DO's : Test test test!!! Make sure the water/land barrier is fully waterproof or it will slowly seep into the land side.

try and make a slow running river in addition to a fast waterfall to allow for easy moss growth.

Actually this message is running to long so send me a PM lol thanks again

  • Hey Thanks for all the comments...I'll try and post a "completed" video within the next few days to let everyone see how its doing, aswell as some of the "do's and dont's" that I have found out.

  • Nice tank, great water feature with the pond, one of the nicest I've seen on here! Hurry up and finish it!

  • What kind of fogger did you use

  • Hi! This is froggsong from VF.

Just in case you haven't found out yet, the air plants are called tillisandias and that broad leafed plant that was sold as just a tropical plant is a peperomia. There are TONS of peperomias, and I just love them.

As for your pothos, that's a good placement for it, but it will do just fine with wet roots, I have even grown it fully submerged. It gives you more options for placement. I've used it fairly often in the water area for my FBTs. They really love it.

  • Very nice! Yeah the reason why mine is only 18x18x18 is because I wanted to start small for my first viv. I'm keeping red eyed tree frogs in it =)

  • hey i have a question, i have 3 coqui frogs what enviroment do you recomend me to make for them

  • Good work mate,

Come on with the next update.
