Barbara appeared in several of Revlon's "Top Brass" commercials (this one first appeared in late 1964, originally shot on videotape) until "GET SMART" went into production. Another one from early '65 has her on "safari", riding an elephant on a busy New York street. You can still find "Top Brass" on several drugstore shelves these days...

Barbara was a very charming guest star on The Man from UNCLE during its first season, and played a part not unlike Agent 99. It was no doubt this role, not the Top Brass commercial, that led to her casting as 99.

Actually, in several interviews with Barbara and various creators, this commercial is credited as being what got her the part. I believe if you look up the video that TVLEGENDS has on thier channel, it's mentioned on there as well as in several other interviews. :)

The character of 99 was certainly not based on this commercial, but it is how she got cast... weird, huh? =)

Yes, I am aware of this. You never see any reference to The Man from UNCLE! I think the problem is that Barbara Feldon talked about her Top Brass commercial on talk shows as the breakthrough that everyone remembered her for. (I recall she'd say how she used to imitate the call to Gepetto in Disney's Pinocchio, and that's how she got the tiger growl.) However, she'd been cast in dramatic roles before and after the Top Brass ads, and the UNCLE one was strikingly similar to Agent 99!
