yeah I was almost yelling why arent you doing that with a timing light attached. Got a type 3 myself with less than 20k on the motor. Have thought about the Holden conversion. Had some tight rings there too
nah sorry buddy not for sale! some pop up on ebay running & not running, also try Trading post, Car Sales also get a monthly issue of Just 4x4's Mag at ur local Newsagent, theres always Landy's advertised in there.
Hi, very nice Landy. Mine was a '59 series 2a and I also used the 4.1 straight 6 Chev engine. Lots of torque. Since then I have rebuilt it completely with lots of mods. Maybe you have seen the video clip of my Landy. Cheers Mate
Land Rovers are the worlds greatest kit car. They're designed to be modified and adapted to the users needs. I would say (educated guess) that the majority of Series Land Rovers on the road in Australia have a Holden (sometimes Ford) donk dropped in them. How else would you use them properly on our highways. The Series engines are just so utterly gutless for anything other than farm duties.
Ease up mate. I just hate to see otherwise good vehicles hacked up. If a Series vehicle doesn't have enough power for you, get something that does, like a Stage One, One Ten, or Defender.
They break enough drivetrain bits with the standard engine when abused, let alone when doubling the power.
Besides, with decent headwork, cam, carby/injection, and exhaust, a 2.25 petrol can put out up to 100hp.
thanks. I like both Holden powered and original powered Landies, however quite a few Series Land Rovers wouldn't have survived without the Holden conversion back in the day. The previous owner never kept the original engine. so i kept it as is as it was part of our history !
Just a tip for next time, or anyone else reading this with a similiar situation -- Without a timing-light handy, you can always do a quick-n-easy hit-n-miss set-up on the distributor advance by hand a few cm at a time until you get desireable start-up and throttle blip response to eliminate that nasty carb backfire. Just make sure to mark your initial position & don't loosen the distributor holding-nut too much. See which way to turn it by noting the firing-order.
NICE RIDE¡¡ love old LR's

Either cold or timing retarded!

Love it! That 186 sounds superb. I had a LR 107 with a 179 red six - not a bad powerplant for the old beast! :D

Nice Rover. Just got my 67 land rover up and running, wondering what kind of tires you put on yours, and what size they are. Thanks

More reliable? I doubt it. They make way too much power. Parts are very easy to find from the UK for the Land Rover engines.
My main gripe though, as with any engine swap, is the vehicle loses it's character.
In this case, it's no longer a real Land Rover anymore.

absolute bullshit.
