@douglas09010 Ubuntu is the most user-friendly version and I would START with it. Nerds use linux, so the learning curve is intended to be high and Ubuntu is good for beginners. I've got discs of several distros and try all new ones that come out. I started with Ubuntu but now really like Fedora.
Stability-wise, my KDE version actually worked out a lot better than GNOME and I found it just as easy to configure. Is that typical? Maybe not, but my attitude is "if it works, it works."
@Yerzriknot If you don't like it, you don't like it. KDE has always been for power users. I have yet to see a more advanced and productive desktop environment.
I love Linux, but I just wish it supported more commercial programs. I have to dual boot with Windows for when I need to edit a video with Vegas or something.
@ShayonM Yeah. I'll have to try those out, but I am so comfortable with Sony Vegas that I don't know if I'll be able to change. I wish there was a way to run OpenSUSE then press a button and be running Win7. Haha.
lol k, well let me tell you Change is good :) . So just give it a shot and then explore the things out . I bet you'll really love it.And if you feel something is missing or a bug then you get a chance to cotribute to the open source world :D.
@RaymondZane Do you run dual booting on a laptop or a desktop? I have a laptop, and would like to run Linux and Windows in 2 separate partitions. Would this utterly annihilate my laptop, or would it be okay to run?
im using opensuse 11.2 right now and im in love!!!! i will def show off this distro to all of my fellow soldiers when i am deployed overseas and here in the states. don't be surprised that the army dumps microsoft and turns to opensuse 11.2
Thank you evreyone for your valuable comments and feedback.I guess everyone also received a mail regarding there queries /else.Or may be a bit late :)
I am downloading openSUSE 11.2 right now and I will try it out in VirtualBox. I loved openSUSE back when i had openSUSE 9 so I know alot has changed. I just hope it has more support and drivers for my laptop unlike Ubuntu 9.10
Showed my 11.2 setup to a guy about to buy win7 for $320 at Staples this afternoon. He liked it so much he made me burn him a disc. And I showed him how he could still run win7 in VirtualBox with a click if he needed any holdover win apps. openSUSE is damn fine.
Ubuntu typically has several nasty bugs and, in my opinion, gives Linux a bad name. Peruse a variety of forums right now and you'll hear innumerable complaints about Ubuntu 9.10. Install openSUSE 11.2 (or use the LiveCD) and if you don't like it, then consider sidux or Fedora.
Ok thank you very MUCH mate. I´ll keep your recommendation in mind (write it down ^^) I´ll give OpenSUSE a try DEFINETELY. and if this doesn´t work I´ll try sidux or Fedor. Wait a MOMENT. What it sidux and Fedora? O.o I´ll google it.
@zridling Between all distribuition I know, including Ubuntu, SuSE is the best distribution! Install, learn how to use yast (look for de SuSE bible manunal), and be happy! SuSE, without doubt.
At Staples, Walmart, and Best Buy in my home town, that is the cost of the full ultimate version. $220 for the premium, and $120 for the starter edition. You're thinking of the upgrade prices. Why anyone would pay for OS is nuts to me.

Either Linux Mint 8 (Not 9, the latest version is quite glitchy), or OpenSUSE.
