If you think that putting a fixed vane turbo on a 6.7 is gonna make it sound like a vp or p pumped truck, somebody else needs to do some homework. In my post last year, I was referring to a 5.9 3rd gen truck. Only difference is the foot. So a straight piped 3rd gen 5.9 and a straight piped 6.7 sound totally different, because of the variable turbo and displacent of the motor. I could go Into detail on injection cycles, pressures, and atomization making these trucks sound different but I might n
@Chrischapman1986 There are quite a few differences in the sound of a 5.9 and a 6.7. I dont believe I said that it did sound like a p-pumped truck. However, it does sound way different than it did when it had a VGT on it. I love CP3 trucks personally and I think I'll get to like them much more when EFI live is mastered. However I know for a fact however that these trucks sound different one reason is also the longer stroke and bigger bore. we have a 06 5.9 and the 08 6.7 they do sound different.
isn't it funny how people watch videos of 6 cylinder cars and they complain about the girly high pitched sound when they rev it up, but they drool over a 6 cylinder truck, which despite having a nice low end sound, does in fact sound a bit like a V6 mustang being reved. (ignoring the lovely turbo however)...
@creamyfilling102 I gotta agree with blindrawing these sound totaly different especailly at high rpm you know the sound of a cummins way before you even see the truck
@Chrischapman1986 not true, the exhaust manifold makes a huge difference when compared to the 3rd gen manifold(s). the he351ve does eat up a ton of turbo noise, but a 6.7 with an aftermarket turbo and a 2nd gen 24v exhaust manifold sounds like a 24v/vp44 truck's exhaust
@Chrischapman1986 its both the manifold and the turbo that make the 6.7 sound different from the 5.9 mostly the manifold makes the bigest sound difference. also this guy has a 5" inch exhaust that gives it a bit of a different sound too. bad ass truck though
@Chrischapman1986 thats not true actually, the exhaust manifold on the second gen is different that the one on the 3rd gen. Exhaust sound is different, engine noise is more quiet on a 3rd gen because of the 3rd injection(pilot injection) stage. Look up on here 3rd gen cummins 2nd gen manifold youll have your proof.
@Chrischapman1986 Not tryin to be a jerk but you need to do some more homework. It is in fact a combination of changing the exhaust manifold and switching the VGT turbo to a fixed vane turbo that changes the sound of the truck to make it sound more like a 12V or a VP44 truck.
Wow,.... now that sounds like a Cummins! That 5,9 manifold really makes the difference, that's the best sounding 6.7 on You Tube. Now I know why the 6.7's do not sound as good as the 5.9's.....it's the shitty exhaust manifold they use on them.
I can't wait to change mine out, just wish there was a way to retain the stock VGT because I love my exhaust brake.....Anyway good luck with it, sounds awesome dude.

@Chrischapman1986 you can tell more in real life than you can on a S*(#ty camera

How did you get a 6.7 to sound like that?!?!
NitroFantasy 3 months ago
@NitroFantasy Really its just the turbo swap that makes it sound the way it does a 66/80/14 silver bullet with 5 inch flo-pro

that souns really nice for a 6.7 i agree with imij63 that souns sick

Its the stock turbo that makes them sound different than the 5.9. Not the exhaust manifold.
Chrischapman1986 1 year ago
@Chrischapman1986 this is true a stock 5.9 manifold wont even fit the stock turbo due to the flanges being different
