  • I haven't seen the film, I am reading the book right now and it's more or less an enjoyable read. I don't think I will watch the movie as much I wanted too. But sometimes you just have to, and you'll appreciate a book a whole lot more.

  • @grishkaven Movie was bad. dont watch it lol

  • @grishkaven youll definitely appreciate the book more. the movie is the worst. eragons the only good thing about it because hes cute lol

  • I think Eragon the movie just took the names. There was barely a shred of original plot left.

I LOVE Eragon. Read all books 5 times or more. The ending was a love-hate relationship, but Christopher was my inspiration for writing my own novels.

  • He says "it was THEIR interpretation" not "a very good interpretation" big difference lol

  • i thought he was going to say it sucked! i hated their saphira! she had like feather scales! its like a bats wing, not feathers!

  • You'd hope this is the first step to him realizing that his books aren't very good. Sadly, it's probably just a chance for him to say "Nobody else can capture the brilliance that I've created!"

  • @GeminiBreaker What are you talking about? Christopher Paolini is an amazing author. The movie was a horrendous depiction of the story. I am currently reading the fourth and final book, Inheritance, and I am loving it. I do, however, respect your opinion.

  • My friend told me that there's an actual book out there that explains the differences between Eragon the book and Eragon the movie. He told me it was over 500 pages long. Lots of differences

  • eragon the movie was good but it could have been a lot better why did arya have red hair and no pointy ears shes an elf. Urgals=NO HORNS in the movie saphira= GREAT

  • I admit, as a film I enjoyed Eragon and It brought me to the series. It may be very flawed but still good

  • My biggest wish would be that young readers will be exposed to all the stories this series steals from first. If you like the books, that's fine, but let's be completely honest here: it is the plot of "Star Wars" set in Middle-earth (complete with races and cultures) with Anne McCaffrey thrown in for good measure. You don't want to hear a kid to watch "Star Wars" and say, "Hey, this is like 'Eragon'!" No way.

P.S. The film did nothing to help the series be more credible, either.

  • @Guigley i recognised that as well but ben would be his father if it was like eragon and R2 would be like saphira

  • @Guigley all books are based off of one another. All stories have the same basis. The slight differences are what makes them unique. Both series' are good in their own way. Let's not compare them and grow irritated with the flaw all writing has: similarity.

  • He has nice smile :)

  • Book(s): THE BEST BOOKS EVER!! Movie: THE WORST INTERPRETATION OF A BOOK IN THE HISTORY OF MOVIES >:(

  • @PKProductions11 I'd sit through 4 hours to see a pure, uncorroded version of Eragon.

  • I am a passionate reader of the cycle and I watched when I finished the first one and thought it was okay not good but okay but I just finished the series and watched it and wanted to crap on the directors floor they killed it the movie (s) should be like 8 or 9 hours long get me a root beer and some snow caps and I would watch it completely silent. Lord of the rings director where are you????!!!!

  • Peter Jackson, come save us!!

  • What I want to know, is why can't almost any director making a movie out of a book or other source... FOLLOW THE MOTHER FUCKING SOURCE?! Examples:

    Eragon the movie -> Failure

Percy Jackson and the Olympians the movie -> Failure

Avatar the Last Airbender the movie -> Failure

    And so. Much. More.

  • "Interpretation" and not "Adaptation". All's said.

  • I think that translates to "I'm embrassed to have allowed them to use my books for that pathetic attempt at a movie"

  • @ogad131 I agree. Movie completely screwed up the books for all of the fans (well most of us) and though it's a good KIDS movie, I'm sure Christopher Paolini would want a REAL movie made out of his books rather than that audition for a school play.

  • Lord of the Rings

The Fellowship of the Ring budget - $93million

    The Two Towers budget- $94million

The Return of the King budget- $94million

    Eragon budget- $100million

    What the hell went wrong??

  • @rockingrugger GTFOthey spent that much money on that pce a shit????? wahhhhhhh

  • @rockingrugger someone badly used all of this cash in the last case.. :\

  • @rockingrugger Serisoly ??? 100 mill ???? i htoguht they put about ten grand into this film

  • @rockingrugger The director focused too much on CG and not the actual story

  • @rockingrugger They spent 100 million on making Saphira look pretty.

  • @Shlycer by giving her bird feathers?

  • @rockingrugger seriously ?!

  • @rockingrugger all their money must have gone into making Saphira look freaking EPIC

  • @rockingrugger Crappy producers, crappy directors, crappy effects. And of course the Inheritance series does not hold a candle to LOTR.

They should've hired Peter Jackson for the job.

  • @rockingrugger What went wrong? I personally think that the movie wasn't intended as an adaptation but as a complete mockery of the book, a direct insult; namely by highlighting the many Star Wars rip-offs and adding MORE!!!!!!!!!! This movie was an insult to the book and I think it was intended as such.

  • the books are awesome and the eragon film sucks dick!

  • I would love a longer more detailed movie but I still think some people may not be as happy as other since you create a lot of your own interpretations on how things look and a movie may not live up to it. For example I think the people of the Varden looked ridiculous in the movie, and Saphira didn't look or sound quite right to me.

  • i wish they could reboot it. the series could b great on film if they follow everything and do it rite!.

  • lol you can tell he knows the movie sucked. "books are still the books".

  • The movie was bad and the director should feel bad.

  • he actually said " it was THEIR interpretation of the story".... I'm still HATING on the movie but love the books!!!

  • Yeah. ^^ Books were best. Amg where was this? I wanna get my book signed >8|

  • Anyone notice how Saphira says 'Brom was right Eragon' before later asking Eragon who Brom is? And how whenever there are Urgals or Raz'ac about it's suddenly night time? :P

    Books were WAY better. ;)

  • I like how Chrisopher Paolini didn't have a honest answer if he liked the movie or not. He doesn't but the people who made the movie payed him to shoot his book as a movie. Probably contract shit involved. IDK. But in the look of his eyes, this is his answer. IT SUCKED!

  • I think the way the character of Brom LOOKS in the film, but apart from that it was a real let down... but lets face it, you could make a movie for every chapter to the inheritance cycle...

  • @Cyrusislikeawsome Or make a six hour movie for each book like they did for Lord Of The Rings. They got every major detail in the Lord Of The Ring movies. The closest movie relation to a book ever!

  • @PickleMDM Agreed. The Lord of the RIngs was spectacular and always will be one of the best fantasy films in the history of mankind.

  • the movie brought me in to the books i read Eragon 1 week before the movie came out and i hated the movie but after reading book 4 i can see john Malkovich as Galbatorix and from book one i see Jermy Irons as Brom he nailed that roll but every thing else was so far off it was like watching a different movie half the timei was wait where in the eff did the book say that happened. like the Ra'zac it says they look like beetles not made out of them and brom dont die by durza thats when i hated it

  • The casting and costumes in the film were awful, and am I mistaken in thinking that Saphira was given feathers in it??? Saphira Bright-feathers? I amk sad that the opportunity for a good film was ruined, and hope that some director like Peter Jackson makes a proper version, sadly i think that very unlikely.

  • @12308madman Yes, I have ALWAYS said that Peter Jackson should have directed it! :D

  • @ganimere XD. THat would be awesome.

  • lol.... you know it was their interpretation of the movie "cough" sucked balls "cough"

  • That movie was horrendous and I'm absolutely certain that, deep down, he knows that. However, if they could do 4 movies for the books, and do them accurately and properly, it could be amazing (potentially).

  • So if you read between the lines, he basically said he didn't care for it that much. I look at it as a Sy-Fy original. It's okay if it was a Saturday afternoon watch, but trying to see the books in the film..not gonna happen. Maybe someone will remake it!?!?

  • I love the books and hate the movies but you know the books are still gonna be great! :D

  • @gummy761 Movie. Singular. They did one right thing, and didn't let the same director do Eldest. I gladly await the making of the movie, just not if it's going to be the same thing as the Eragon movie.

  • did he know you were filming him? the look on his face at the end was kinda like "oh.." haha.

  • my friend h2o274 and other friends met him at barnes and noble in manhattan a few weeks ago

  • he says it was their interpretation of the story not it was a good interpretation he didnt like the movie

  • I have a small hearing issue I was born with but I swear he said "It was their interpretation of the story" Meaning they had a different view of the book.. which all who read the book and saw the movie can see that. I am sad the last three great books cannot be made into movies because of a film maker's interpretation. Some stories are meant to be on screen and one film maker's mistake can lead to the franchise of movies ending. Thankfully we have the great books.

  • @Dicitus666 Wait 10-20 years for the air to settle and for movie technology to accelerate so that everything concerning this series can be made possible on the screen. Inspire real directors to undertake the task, and to make no compromises. Here we have a story with more movie potential than Lord of the Rings. I believe the world will see it through, eventually.

  • My favorite human in the world! Ahhhh! -3

  • He obveously hated the movie

  • (SPOILER FOR Inheritance, book 4) <- (seriously massive spoiler)

the characters are just so miserably wrong for this movie, especially roran, he looks like a fucking retard, not fit to become captain in queen nasuada's army. and eragon... murtagh and brom fit well enough, asrya isn't royal enough, angela doesnt fit either, they didnt introduce solembum, or jeod, or hrothgar/orikwhatever... i dont feel like listing out every thing wrong and yes i would absolutly sit thru 2½ hour movie instead.

  • @ProTunafish Yeah when i freaked about the movie i also had to finnaly just take into consideration that the movie and the book will never be the same or 1 thing, i had to look at them like 2 entirly differnt colors and it settled on me better

  • @ProTunafish so true but i bet the whole book would be like a 6 hour movie lol

  • @pencilpizza id still watch it

  • was this at the jamboree? i met him when he was near subcamp 2

  • @bissell1994 Yes it was at the jamboree! It was pretty awesome to see him there

  • @bissell1994 No way i was at the jamboree and he's like my favourite author! Which subcamp was he in summer?

  • @pazzainit It was right next to the police-dug abuse thing, and it only went on for a few hours. I cant remember the exact day. By the way i'm the kid with red hair in the vid, and my friend was filming.

  • @jamese888 Haha nice mate!

  • Haha. He will never say he didn't like the movie even though it sucked:

    1) It brought in new readers

    2) Who wouldn't love royalty checks?

    3) He is too nice to say otherwise

  • note that the fan he was talking to was eight, shows the quality of the book quite nicely.

  • In the movie; Saphira had FEATHERS on her wings.

    FEATHERS!

  • @firelord12311 And the elves didn't have the right type of heads. There eyes and ears were all wrong.

  • I believe he said that it was "their" interpretation of the story.

  • He said it exactly. People need to accept the movies as their own story, not just a copy of a story that's already been told.

  • Hahaha he hated it. Classic.

  • i absolutely hate book-movie transitions. harry potter for instance. they completely butchered the movie. Eragon was no better, in terms of the end product of the movie. i hope the same doesn't go for the hunger games. it makes no sense whatsoever that anyone would dare crop out such important things and then contort the rest of such a great creation and present it proudly. id rather sit for an extra hour or so and get a proper version than sit and be accosted by such a monstrosity.

  • @ThatCynicalBastard i agree with you but the final harry potter films were amazing and I think the final director was great and for sure I would ask him to make my story if i was a writter into a movie.

  • I think he handled that question very well! "The books are still the books..." So true. You can hate on the movie all you want (and believe me, I do), but at the end of the day, the books are and will always be fantastic. :)

  • @MissEmcat24 I agree..but that story deserves a good movie...someone should give the 4 books as a gift to peter jackson :P

  • @asfarfafar Exactly!!!!

  • @asfarfafar ahahah i would love for that too happan!!!

  • @MissEmcat24 I read Eragon in '03, so I've always been a huge fan. But I couldn't even sit through the whole movie. IT IS SO BAD.

  • @enriquesalazar009 I know!! The ONLY redeeming quality was that, in my opinion, Jeremy Irons is the perfect actor to play Brom.

  • INHERITANCE - 1 HOUR - PARTY HARD

  • The action in the movie sucked, the dialougue sucked, and the wardrobe sucked. When I first saw it, my sisteer said *They should make another one!*

    ..

  • The first movie needs to be remade, and they should continue on and make the other books into movies too. But they need to do them WELL!!! There was no difference between the humans, elves, RaZaac, etc... they need to DO IT UP! And get decent screen writers. They had good actors, but the dialogue was just awful! I really hope someone who loves the Cycle remakes the first movie and does the books justice. I would love to see it and own it.

  • Yeah. He hated it.

  • When a author can't say he enjoyed the movie we know it is crap. I listened to the directors views while not watching the movie and he just didn't buy into the storyline. I was listening to music at the same time at least. And working on some writing myself. Back to the director. Find someone who loves the book and have them do a remake of it. Not some hollywood person who doesn't understand this is not just a movie first and book second. A book first and movie second.

  • @ronhight I agree. They should make another movie with someone who actually ENJOYS the book and puts everything in the movie from the book. It would be epic to have a good movie tie with a good book, and have all 4 movies from the books. Who else is in? Lets give them a message.

  • @PKProductions11 & ronhight

You guys have a GREAT point I'm rereading the whole series and when I look between the book and the movie namely they tried to put FEATHERS on Saphira's wings and Galbatorix had Ellesmera on his MAP and the Rider's NEVER told him where it was and Farthen Dur looks like a ghetto Tronjheim is the greatest dwarf city and they RUINED it!!

  • I like how they go on about a 5km journey, and then SUDDENLY they're at the 'foothills of the Beor Mountains'

  • i swear i can only watch about thirty minites every year, im not even done yet :P

  • @POWERISPAIN hah, don't bother...waste of time.

  • It brought me to the series so I thank it for that. I liked the cast a lot but it should have been way longer. I think fans would bewilling to sit through a 2 and a half hour epic like this

  • @dekead I would definitely sit through a 2 1/2 hour movie than a 1 1/2 crap movie.

  • @PKProductions11 i agree

  • @dekead i would have sat for 5 hours if they had put every detail into the movie

  • @dekead id sit through a two disc set if need be

  • @dekead I agree with Christopher Paolini's view on the movies. But still the Eragon movie messed up a lot of stuff, too much stuff that it is impossible for the makers of it to make Eldest or Brisingr or Inheritance.

  • Eragon killed Ra'zac in the movie using vines to strngle them lol. I dont mind Brom not having a beard because it was, after all, the man Jeremy Irons. Ajihad as Djimon Honsou was pretty bad ass too. Everyone else sucked...

  • On hes book tour for inheritance im going to ask him if he could make a second one

  • It sounded more like he was saying "it was....it was their interpretation of the story".

  • @0saintclark0 He DID say "their" interpretation. Translation: He's trying to say that he didn't care for it without saying it outright. XD

  • @OrgXIIIXaldin Yeah that's what I thought. I was just saying that because the description box said otherwise...

  • of the stuff the film writers messed up on that yall are mentioning but dont Forget Elva, who is still sortof a important character and her not being born in Eragon doesnt guarentee her role in Eldest. :/

  • WOW! O.o You can hear he didn't like it!

  • the movie was horrible, saphira just flew into the sky and kept getting bigger sheesh, and Arya has black hair and pointed ears, and where was orik i'm not sure they mentioned him and if they did it suked, where's katrina, the movie was horriiiible!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • all that was only the first five minutes

  • "it was their interpretation of the story"

ur my idol paolini, but clearly, the makers if the movie didnt know how to read books since they messed up on places, attitudes, left out REALLY important characters, how they LOOK like and what ACTULLY happened.

eragon has briwn hair, there wasnr soldiers in carvahall, horst is muscular, WERES KATRINA?!?!?!, brom has a beard, garriw isnt ugly, saphira doesnt just explode and is suddenly huger. THATS NOT THE RAAZAC!!! ........

    thats only the first fi

  • i bet he was lying so that the movie producers would get mad

he should get WB to make the movie, or the makers of the lord of the rings

  • The movie Sucked... Period!

  • Did anybody notice that the elf chick didn't have pointed ears in the movie? Look at them, they are ROUND. And don't get me STARTED on her 'Oh Eragon fuck me fuck me' attitude, when in the books she's all 'FUCK OFF KID!' Jesus, she's a slut in the damn movie. Bad acting, bad script, good book, disappointing in the author. All writers should CO-DIRECT! D:< Gawd.

  • I still haven't seen the whole movie. I walked out of the cinema, it was so crap. Love the books, hate the movie.

  • i feel bad for the guy, having his series ruined like that. he probably has tons of people ask him about the movie and every time he has to be nice and say this instead of saying it sucked directly. if i were him i wouldnt even pretend (maybe he has to do this because of contracts or something) but if i had a choice and i were him i would say 'it was their interpretation and it was not anything i had hoped for and someone please help me remake it into something deserving of the series'

  • jesusfreak2123 thats what i said! she has bat like wings! thin membrames, not feathers!

  • he basicly said that it sucked in a nice way.

  • the "Eragon" movie was very likely the worst movie I've ever seen. but the books are still the books, and they are awesome indeed

  • I watched the film before the books and im not gonna lie i actually quite liked the film, just after reading the book you realise how much they changed and how much they left out

  • The books will always be better!

Go to readit1st(dot)com and take the pledge!

  • all the things i talked about in the last post was what i DIDNT LIKE about the movie.

  • Eragon is ther BEST (the books NOT the movie) Saphira had feathers, and Katrina wuz the reazon roran left and was like 1/2 the plot line in Eldest and they cut her out like she didnt matter!!! Araya had brown hair and rounded ears, and THEY CUT OUT ELVA!!!!!!!!! I mean she is also a HUGE part in the books! And last time i cheaked Durza didnt kill brom (T.T) The Ra'zak did!! And Eragon doesnt kil the R'zak till Brisinger when they save KATRINA!

  • The movie was a big fail. I didnt like how Arya was an ugly human and that Saphira looked nothing more like an over sized bird... I really love the books and i absolutley hate it when the movies suck...Harry Potter was loads better

  • Chris, i dont blame you on your hating of the movie they shoulhave not have named eragon, nothing like the books at all, if they named it differently, and changed a few characters names, it could have passed for a movie series of its own and notrecognsable of the books at all! Terrible, screwed it up so bad and eldest movie is out of the question

  • i think that Christopher says "it was never writen to the interpretation of the story"

  • the books are WAY better than the movies, bigtime

  • the books are awesome and i cant want for the last one but the movie failed

  • U got that right c3ment! That movie barely followed the books. If it was realistic to the book it would have been longer, had better actors, and a rating of at least pg 13

  • omfg stop complaining about minor details. Who cares about round ears or bird wings. The film was shit because it was badly made, horribly scripted, emphasised on the wrong stuff and a disasterous performance from the guy who played Eragon.

  • His pr rep prepared him well for that question lol it was crap

  • ok im a huge fan but im sorry here the truth.. the author christopher paolini deinied film makers rights to make more films of his books as they fucked the first one p so much (eragon)

  • How can they make a sequel to the movie if they didn't add solembum and also the Ra'zac are already dead! Also what is up with the Urgals having no horns?

  • Ah, the movie.... I have mixed feelings on the movie. On one side, the movie had pretty decent actors (Especially for Brom, Murtagh and Saphira's voice), exceptional special effects for it's time and buget, and a not-so-horrible plot that makes the movie an entertaining and enjoyable experience... as a stand-alone movie. However, as a film based upon a series of books, it is a horrible rendition of the Inheritance Cycle and doesn't capture the essence, story, or the characters at all.

  • In the movie, Arya had round ears, Eragon and Roran had blonde hair, Brom had no beard, Ra'zac had no hoods and so on.

  • @TheBestttesttt Yea, the Ra'zac looked like.... shit. They had no resemblence whatsoever.

  • @PKProductions11 They looked like a mummy with lung cancer

  • Comment removed

  • @PKProductions11 The Ra'zacs' tale is a sad one...They were once exterminators, until one day evil H1N1 infected termites attacked them, covering their whole bodies and turning them evil...Unfortunately, the termites were from Eragon's bedroom, and now the Ra'zac have sworn revenge...

  • @TheBestttesttt Saphira grew up instantly with a magical beam of light, they killed the raazac in the film they put angela in daret, skipped Tierm and solembum, no twins, urgals look like men etc

  • @TheBestttesttt Is that your main concern? HOODS?! They didn't show roran's side of the story, they missed lots of key points in the plot! NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheBestttesttt also the urgals had no horns, they killed the ra'zac which are a major part of eldest and so on so forth

  • @TheBestttesttt Yeah, the whole elf with round ears thing killed it. Also, the razaac are killed in Eragon, which totally destroyed the entire plot for Rorans journey in Eldest

  • @Therobbieperson

What book did you read?? the raz,ac and their parents the lethrblaka die in brisingr

  • @solewardenator Exactly. THats what im saying. In the movie, the razaac die. That destroys any attempt at a second or third movie.

  • @Therobbieperson Which is why they should remake it WITHOUT the Razaac dying

  • @TheBestttesttt dont forget they missed every freakin important character. twins, elva, solembum, katrina, jeod..........etc.

  • @h2o274 katrina, elva and the twins are in the deleted scenes, but thay are tiny parts

  • @mushydogleish95 yes, i know. if they left those in ito would hav been better. who ever directed it doesnt know how to read.

  • @h2o274 might as NOT call the movie "eragon"

  • @PKProductions11 i wouldnt have notice if they didnt say brom, eragon and saphira every 5 seconds...

  • the movie was horrible, the actors played thier part good, just the lines were crap

  • Was this filmed underwater?

  • @Markyparky56 Nope just a crap camera. I made it Hd when i got home

  • @Markyparky56 Yea sorry for being so shaky :P

  • it's actually "it was their interpretation of the story" not "it was a very good interpretation of the story"

  • @hahaowned28 WOW did not catch that :P

  • The movie was shit from the ass of a donkey

The books was a melody sung by angels

  • They really need to remake the movie. And this time make it good.

  • SOLEMBUM WASNT IN THE MOVIEGOOD LUCK WITH A SEQUAL

  • You could tell he hated the movie with his answer. =P

  • @Xycester he was clearly trying very hard not to get pissed whenever the topic of the movie came up...cant blame him though...the movie spat on everything the books stood for...as a fan i was truly disappointed

  • I think we all agree that the movie was bad, but I thought this was a very good and diplomatic answer.

  • It brought me, but I am a little ashamed that such a crappy movie got my interest in a great series
