First Iraq used Russian migs (mig29) which in that were brand new and they also mostly used French Mirrag ( the french army used that airplanes at the same time) .BTW French also send pilots for Iraq army (search any document about War) they also trained Iraqi pilots (at the time of frist gulf war (1991) French air force didn't contribute because Iraqi had the same airplanes and so many Iraqi pilots were training in French)
