@CronusandRhea most cichlids are agressive/territorial. what you're looking at here is two of the most agressive/insane breeds. there are many cool looking breeds are fairly calm, virtually all cichlids are territorial, some small & medium sized are fine co-existing in a large tank, a 100 gal would be fine w/ these.

I say it has to do with the compatibility they lack with other breeds. Some fish just hate each other. Most hate the Jag, because they start what they can't finish. Your Jag most likely established a territory. Giving itself something to fight for. While the others hadn't. That would give it an exceptional edge. Isolated case.

It's funny to see Jags get owned by other fish. Especially smaller fish. Usually, they just posture, and act tough. Once contact is made l, they swim off. definitely, if you raise them young enough they are more tolerant, i don't want to jinx it but i've had 1 golden algae eater, 1 red tail shark and 1 red tail loach live hassle free with my cichlids since they all been very young, my rt loach hangs beside jd all the time they are buddies, their behavior to each other is strange but interesting..
